YULAN September 26, 2000 Once again, the Yulan Fire Department and Von Steuben Day Committee have given the community and its visitors a Grand Von Steuben Day Parade and German Festival.
The event, which was held on Saturday, hosted over 3,000 people and many floats, marchers, German bands and fire departments.
Yulan Fire Chief Tim Schadt was pleased with the days turnout.
We have people here today from all over, and everyone is having a great time, said Schadt. Our vendors have provided many great varieties of food and crafts, and the floats were really original. It is really a great family day and has proven to be a very enjoyable day for all.
Mackenzie Elementary Principal Jackie Morris-Hayes also commented on the day.
Our Mackenzie students participated in the parade with a float that they had made, and it was great. The kids enjoyed making the float and then showing it off in the parade, she said. The day is really a fun day, and our students really enjoyed participating in it this year and are already looking forward to next year.
The days events kicked off with a numerous amount of floats and marchers, with the Germanfest featuring exotic animals, face-painting and even a hot air balloon ride, along with a wide variety of German food.
Plans are already in the works for next years Von Steuben Day Parade and Germanfest.
Editors Note: A list of parade trophy winners will be in Fridays edition.
