William H. Shaver
Ret. Lawnskeeper, 90

William H. Shaver of Liberty, a lifelong area resident who had his own business of taking care of lawns for many years, died Friday, March 10, 2000, at the Sullivan County Adult Care Center in Liberty. He was 90 years of age.
The son of the late Perry and Marguerite Sturdevant Shaver, he was born May 14, 1909, in Arena.
Mr. Shaver was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret Calarino Shaver of White Sulphur Springs; three sons, William Shaver Jr. of Belton, S.C., and Richard Shaver and Raymond Shaver, both of White Sulphur Springs; a daughter, Sharon Davis of Delhi; a brother, Glenford Shaver of Bloomingburg; a sister, Doris Manchester of Long Pond, Pa.; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Perry, a brother, Leo, and a sister, Thelma Marshall.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Ramsay's Funeral Home, 275 S. Main St., Liberty, with the Rev. Kenneth Ford officiating.
Interment will be made in the Sullivan County Veterans Cemetery in Liberty.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Ernest Schleiermacher
Ret. Carpenter/Farmer, 91

Ernest Schleiermacher of Shandelee, a retired union carpenter and farmer and a lifelong area resident, died Monday, March 13, 2000, at the Skilled Nursing Unit of the Seelig Division of Community General Hospital in Harris. He was 91 years of age.
He was born May 5, 1908, in Callicoon Center.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Herbert C. Bryant Funeral Home in Livingston Manor and are incomplete at press time.

Michael F. Noeller, 52

Michael F. Noeller, a one-year resident of Venice, Fla., formerly of Eldred, died Wednesday, March 1, 2000, at the Bon Secours-Venice Hospital in Florida. He was 57 years of age.
The son of Clifford G. Noeller and the late Barbara J. Schweizer Noeller, he was born November 23, 1942, in Helena, Mont.
Mr. Noeller was a U.S. Navy Veteran.
He is survived by four daughters, Lynn Nayda of Gainesville, Va., Julie Adams of Millville, N.J., Christine Herbert of Wallingford, Conn., and Jamie Noeller of Eldred; his father of Venice, Fla.; and six grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held in the fall at the Pond Eddy United Methodist Church.

Clifford Green, 46
Ret. Health Care Att.

Clifford Green of Middletown, a former Home Health Care Attendant for Hospice of Orange, died Thursday, March 9, 2000, at his home. He was 46 years of age.
The son of Lucretia Simmons Green and the late James Green, he was born June 4, 1953, in New York City.
Mr. Green was a member of Christian Faith Fellowship Church in Middletown.
He is survived by his mother; a son, Clifford Jordan; a daughter, Nefeteria Green; a step-son, Jamel Jones; four sisters, Essie Mae Walton, Janice Thorner, Debra Patterson and Rebecca Green; three brothers, Nathaniel Green, Wilbert Green and Sidney Green; a granddaughter, Qu'tasia Bryant; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, 130 Highland Ave., Middletown.
A Service of Remembrance will be offered Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Joseph H. McKelvey officiating.
Interment will be made in the Bloomingburg Rural Cemetery in Bloomingburg.

Ethel Delma Hilf
Ret. Educator, 73

Ethel Delma Hilf of Spring Glen, a dedicated educator, scholar and longtime area resident, died Saturday, March 11, 2000, at the Sullivan County Adult Care Center in Liberty. She was 73 years of age.
The daughter of the late William and Mary Gertsman of Mountaindale, she was born September 5, 1926, in Phoenix, Ariz.
She earned her B.A. degree at New York University and her Master of Education degree at Albany State University. Mrs. Hilf taught junior and senior high school English and Social Studies at the Fallsburg Central School for 45 years. She also taught in the Ellenville School District and served as a guidance counselor.
Mrs. Hilf was honored as Fallsburg Central Teacher of the Year for her dedication to the senior yearbook and the rare qualities which enabled her to inspire and motivate students.
Mrs. Hilf was a member of Congregation Ezrath Israel and the Sisterhood of the Synagogue; secretary/treasurer of Spring Glen Hebrew Congregation; a member of the Fallsburg Teachers' Association; a life member of the Ellenville Chapter of Hadassah where she had made many outstanding presentations as American and Zionist Affairs chairman. Mrs. Hilf also contributed written articles to the now defunct Jewish Star newspaper.
She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Pincus "Pinky" Hilf of Spring Glen; a son and daughter-in-law, Ira and Kathy Hilf of Fremont, Calif.; a daughter and son-in-law, Esther and Shimon Revivo, and five grandchildren, all of Netovat, Israel; a brother and sister-in-law, Alfred and Harriet Gertsman of Mountaindale; a sister and brother-in-law, Sylvia and Carl Silverstein of Monticello; and five nieces and nephews.
Services were held Monday at the Congregation Ezrath Israel with Rabbi Moshe Frank officiating.
Burial was made in the Congregation Ezrath Israel Cemetery in Wawarsing.

Funeral arrangements were made by the Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home in Monticello.

Patricia L. Dow
Ret. Social Worker, 58

Patricia Louise Dow of Lake Katrine, a former social worker for Orange County, died Thursday, March 9, 2000, at the Northeast Center for Special Care in Lake Katrine. She was 58 years of age.
The daughter of the late Walter Jr. and Genevieve Hooper Dow, she was born March 17, 1941, in Middletown.
Ms. Dow was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church.
She is survived by two brothers, Walter Dow III and Chester Dow and his wife, Bonnie, all of Middletown; nine nieces and nephews; a grand-niece and a grand-nephew.
A Service of Remembrance was held Monday at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Middletown.
Interment was made in the Bloomingburg Rural Cemetery in Bloomingburg.

Dorothy M. Peake
Homemaker, 91

Dorothy M. Peake of Hankins, a homemaker and a lifelong area resident, died Sunday, March 12, 2000, at her home. She was 91 years of age.
The daughter of the late Peter and Matilda Niermyer Graebner, she was born November 9, 1908, in New York City. She was the widow of William Schanker and Chapell Peake.
Mrs. Peake was a member of the Delaware Valley Senior Citizens in Callicoon and the Hankins United Methodist Church. She was an avid card player.
She is survived by several cousins including Marion and Frank Weiss of Port Jervis.
There will be no visitation.
Cremation will be made at the Twin Tiers Crematory in Endicott.
Interment of the cremains will be made in the Callicoon Cemetery.

Elfriede Nissen
Homemaker, 71

Elfriede Nissen of Jeffersonville, a homemaker, died Sunday, March 12, 2000, at the Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown. She was 71 years of age.
The daughter of the late Karl and Bertha Mangels Topp, she was born September 4, 1928, in Brooklyn. She was the widow of Andreas Nissen who died December 2, 1998.
Mrs. Nissen was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Jeffersonville.
She is survived by a son, Lorne Nissen of Jeffersonville; and a cousin, John Topp of Hedgesville, W. Va.
Friends may call at the First Lutheran Church of Jeffersonville on Thursday from noon to 2 p.m.
Services will be held at the First Lutheran Church of Jeffersonville at 2 p.m. on Thursday with the Rev. Kristen Anderson officiating.
Burial will be made in the Jeffersonville Lutheran Cemetery in Jeffersonville.
