Daniel O. Rutan
Ret. Truck Driver, 90

Daniel O. Rutan of Middletown, a retired driver with Barney's Super Oil Service in Middletown and a lifelong area resident, died Thursday, June 22, 2000, at the Orange County Residential Health Care Facility in Goshen. He was 90 years of age.
The son of the late Alexander and Lucy Calhoun Rutan, he was born January 10, 1910, in Wurtsboro. He was the widower of Marie McCade Rutan.
Mr. Rutan was a charter member of the Wurtsboro Fire Department and a charter member of the Silver Lake Fire Department.
He is survived by a daughter, Danielle Rutan of Arizona; a son, Robert Rutan of Montgomery; five grandchildren, Cathleen Rutan of Denver, Colo., Denise Rutan of Kansas City, Mo., Daniel J. Rutan of Rocky Point, N.C., Karen Fossati of Pawling and Steven Diehl of Rhinebeck; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial was offered Monday at the Assumption Church in Maybrook.
Burial was made in the Wallkill Cemetery in Phillipsburg.

Tammi Sue Q. Cox
Homemaker, 29

Tammi Sue Quick Cox of Middletown, a homemaker and lifelong area resident, died Wednesday, June 21, 2000, at the Horton Medical Center in Middletown. She was 29 years of age.
The daughter of Hazzie and Susan J. Cliff Quick, she was born November 12, 1970, in West Point.
Mrs. Cox was a 1989 graduate of Weed (New Mexico) High School and was listed in the 1989 Who's Who of American Students. She was also Miss America Co-Ed in 1989.
In a family statement, it was said, "No matter how sick Tammy was, she was always ready to help others."
She is survived by her husband, Howard P. Cox, at home; her parents of Middletown; a sister and brother-in-law, Rebecca J. and Michael Halstead and a nephew, Michael Halstead Jr., all of Burlingham; her maternal grandfather, George Cliff of Crossville, Tenn.; her paternal grandfather, Claude Quick of Wurtsboro; five uncles, Harold Cliff of Orlando, Fla., Richard Cliff of Middletown, Claude Quick Jr. of Belvidere, Vt., Gary Quick of Wurtsboro and Richard Quick of Melbourne, Fla. and a great-aunt, Barbara Osborn of Storrs, Conn.
Services were held Saturday at the Morse Funeral Home in Middletown with the Rev. Tim Woodard officiating.
Burial was made in the family plot in Wallkill Cemetery.

Floyd Martin
Ret. Baker, 71

Floyd "Sarge" Martin of Monticello, a retired baker at the Pines Hotel in South Fallsburg and a longtime area resident, died Tuesday, June 20, 2000, at the Seelig Division of Community General Hospital in Harris. He was 71 years of age.
The son of the late George and Fanny Grover Martin, he was born August 3, 1928, in Augusta, N.J.
A U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, he was a member of the Bailey-Richman Post No. 9588, Veterans of Foreign Wars, in Monticello, American Legion Post #73 and a life member of the Disabled American Veterans Association.
He is survived by two daughters and three sons, including Glenn W. McCarrick and his wife, Cindy, of Middleburg, Pa.; a sister, Ann Heeter of the state of Florida; four grandchildren, Dustin, Jason, Amy and Lori; and several nieces and nephews.
Services were held Saturday at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home in Monticello.
Cremation was made at the Cedar Hill Crematory in Middle Hope.
Interment of the ashes was made at the Sullivan County Veterans Cemetery in Liberty.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Children's Cancer Fund.

Jacqueline A. Smith
Security Guard, 47

Jacqueline Ann Smith of Matamoras, Pa., a security guard at Kolmar Labs in Port Jervis and lifelong area resident, died Wednesday, June 21, 2000, at her home. She was 47 years of age.
The daughter of Dolores Grandchamp Boltz Muir and the late Walter Boltz, she was born May 25, 1953, in Brooklyn.
Mrs. Smith attended St. Joseph's R.C. Church in Matamoras. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary to Tri-States Naval Ship Post 7241, Veterans of Foreign Wars, in Port Jervis. She also did video taping and camera work for Access 8 TV.
She is survived by her husband, David W. Smith, at home; her mother and stepfather, Dolores and Leonard Muir of Matamoras, Pa; a daughter, Christa Baker of Port Jervis; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Patricia and Marcelino Martinez of Port Jervis and Dolores and Alan Schroeder of Matamoras, Pa.; a sister-in-law, Ruth Ann Smith of Grahamsville; a grandson, Dakota Ray Gadsmon of Port Jervis; and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grand-nephews.
Services were held Saturday at the Gray-Parker Funeral Home in Port Jervis with the Rev. John J. Turi officiating.
Burial was made in Pine Grove Cemetery in Matamoras, Pa.

Frieda J. Williams
Ret. AT&T Rep., 79

Frieda J. Williams of Kauneonga Lake, a retired customer service representative for AT&T in Monticello and a longtime area resident, died Thursday, June 22, 2000, at Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown. She was 79 years of age.
The daughter of the late Joseph S. and Cecil Alexander Clark, she was born August 18, 1920, in Burlington, Pa. She was the widow of Merle Williams who died April 23, 1996.
Mrs. Williams was a member of the Community United Methodist Church in Kauneonga Lake, the Telephone Pioneers, and a member and secretary of the Ladies Auxiliary to Sgt. Andrew Brucher Memorial Post #5499, Veterans of Foreign Wars, in White Lake.
She is survived by a son, Bruce Williams of Greeley, Colo.; a daughter, Joann Nordlie of Monticello; a brother, Charles Clark of Saugus, Calif.; a sister, Geraldine Layman of Norwich, Calif; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Marjorie Clark.
Funeral services were held Monday at the Community United Methodist Church in Kauneonga Lake with the Rev. David Coon officiating.
Burial was made in the Sullivan County Veterans Cemetery in Liberty.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Community United Methodist Church, Horseshoe Lake Rd., Kauneonga Lake, N.Y. 12749.
Funeral arrangements were made by the Ramsay's Funeral Home in Kauneonga Lake.

Margaret Johnson
Homemaker, 77

Margaret Johnson of Beach Lake, Pa., a homemaker and a lifelong area resident, formerly of Long Eddy, died Saturday, June 24, 2000, at the Wayne Memorial Hospital in Honesdale, Pa. She was 77 years of age.
The daughter of the late Thomas and Hazel Furgeson Coddington, she was born July 1, 1922, in East Branch. She was the widow of Raymond E. Johnson Sr.
Mrs. Johnson is survived by a son, Raymond E. Johnson Jr. of Long Eddy; seven daughters, Linda Porter of Hankins, Margaret Todd of Callicoon, Elizabeth Brush of Winterdale, Pa., Rosalie Gillow of Beach Lake, Pa., Brenda Hornbeck of Claryville, Connie Shea of Long Eddy and Angela Johnson of Honesdale, Pa.; three sisters, Bertha Speenburg of Sanford, Anna Deck of Long Eddy and Thelma Leroy of Hancock; 14 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Dale Johnson, and a daughter, Ruby Johnson.
Services were held at the Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home in Callicoon with the Rev. Doris Tietjen officiating.
Burial was made in the Halsey Cemetery in Long Eddy.
