Katherine Chicko
Homemaker, 85

Katherine Chicko of Monticello, a homemaker and long time area resident, died Sunday, September 3, 2000. She was 85 years of age.
The daughter of the late John and Anna Smolnik Konow, she was born July 12, 1915, in Claremont, N.H. She was the widow of John Chicko.
Mrs. Chicko's was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Monticello. Her interests included flowers, gardening and birds.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, John and Mary Chicko of Monticello; a daughter, Joanne Moulton of Basking Ridge, N.J.; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services and burial were held Wednesday at the Rock Ridge Cemetery in Monticello with the Rev. Ninon Hutchinson officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Sullivan County, 800 Stony Brook Court, Newburgh, N.Y. 12550.
Funeral arrangements were made by the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home in Monticello.

Alex Novick
Ret. Truck Driver, 83

Alex Novick of Hallandale, Fla., and Woodridge, a retired self-em-ployed truck driver and lifelong Woodridge resident, died Friday, September 1, 2000, at Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood, Fla. He was 83 years of age.
The son of the late Israel and Dora Tucker Novick, he was born October 30, 1916, in New York City.
He is survived by his wife, Harriet Salzman Novick, at home; three sons and daughters-in-law, Arthur and Helen Novick of Las Vegas, Nev., Carl and Tiela Novick of Tucson, Ariz., and Stuart and Adele Novick of Woodridge; a daughter and son-in-law, Eileen (Novick) and Peter Rhulen of New York City; a sister, Sylvia Kramer of Hallandale, Fla.; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services and burial were held Monday at the Workmen Circle #281 Cemetery in Glen Wild with Rabbi Irving Goodman officiating.
Funeral arrangements were made by the Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home in Monticello Funeral Home in Monticello.

Eleanor Levine
Homemaker, 70

Eleanor Levine, a 40-year resident of Monticello and a homemaker, died Saturday, September 2, 2000, at her home. She was 70 years of age.
The daughter of the late Adolf and Jane Clarke Scherer, she was born June 13, 1930, in Albany. She was the widow of Saul Levine.
Mrs. Levine is survived by a son, Mark Levine of Brookfield, Conn.; a daughter, Tammy Magrisso of Monticello; and five grandchildren.
Graveside services and burial were held Sunday at the Temple Sholom Cemetery in Monticello with Rabbi Irwin Tanenbaum officiating.
Funeral arrangements were made by the Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home in Monticello.

Thelma R. Lagerway
Homemaker, 83

Thelma R. Lagerway of Monticello, a homemaker and lifelong area resident, died Friday, September 1, 2000, at the Seelig Division of Community General Hospital in Harris. She was 83 years of age.
The daughter of the late David and Minnie Calhoun Soules, she was born May 21, 1917, in Forestburgh. She was the widow of William W. Lagerway.
Mrs. Lagerway was a member of St. Peter's R.C. Church in Monticello.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Guy W. and Terri Lagerway of Albuquerque, N. Mex.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Joyce C. and George F. Fisher Jr. of Port Charlotte, Fla., and Marion and Richard Hindley of Monticello; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Peter's R.C. Church in Monticello.
Burial will be made in Budd Cemetery in Monticello.

Mary E. Thompson
Ret. Representative, 63

Mary Elizabeth Thompson of Wurtsboro, a retired business representative for Bell Atlantic and lifelong area resident, died Saturday, September 2, 2000, at the Horton Medical Center in Middletown, after a long illness. She was 63 years of age.
The daughter of the late James V. and Lillian LaPolt McCormick, she was born August 29, 1937, in Monticello.
A graduate of Mointicello High School and Orange County Community College, Mrs. Thompson retired from Bell Atlantic in 1991 after 25 years of service. She was a parishioner of St. Paul's R.C. Church in Bullville, a former member of the Ave Maria Guild at St. Joseph's R.C. Church in Wurtsboro and a published poet.
She is survived by her husband, Harold C. Thompson, at home; a son, James J. Thompson of Wurtsboro; a daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen and Larry J. Pilecki of West Seneca; two grandsons, Kyle and Scott Pilecki; and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial was offered Wednesday at St. Paul's R.C. Church in Bullville.
Burial was made in Sylvan Cemetery in Wurtsboro.

Chloe N. Lockhart
Infant

Chloe Nicole Lockhart of Phillipsport, the infant daughter of Rocky Lockhart and Colleen Decker, died Monday, August 28, 2000, at Vassar Brothers Hospital in Poughkeepsie.
She is survived by her parents and a brother, Brandon Marin, all at home; her paternal grandfather, Rocky Lockhart of Syracuse; her grandmother Joann Russell and her husband, Bryon, of Brushton; an uncle, Ian Lockhart of Syracuse; an aunt and uncle, Kelly and Sean Carty of Georgia; her great-grandmother, Ann Gushlaw of Syuracuse; and several other aunts and uncles.
A memorial service was held Saturday at the Colonial Memorial Funeral Home in Ellenville.

William H. Holmes Sr.
Villa Roma Driver, 55

William Henry Homes Sr. of Callicoon, a bus driver for the Villa Roma Resort in Callicoon, died Thursday, August 31, 2000, at the Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla. He was 55 years of age.
The son the late William H. and Bertha Howard Holmes, he was born January 22, 1945, in the Bronx.
A U.S. Navy veteran, he was a member of American Legion Post #0001. Mr. Holmes was a 1962 graduate of Cardinal Hayes High School in the Bronx and attended Sullivan County Community College for Food & Hotel Technology. He was also a delivery driver for the Sullivan County Democrat.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Joanne Caruso Holmes, at home; a son, William Holmes Jr. of Callicoon; two daughters, Louise Murphy of Roscoe and Tammy Ellis of Cochecton; and several grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter, Theresa Redmond.
Cremation was made at the Cedar Hill Crematory in Middle Hope.
Burial of the cremains will be made at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Sullivan County Veterans Cemetery in Liberty with Fr. Ignatius Smith officiating.

Ricky W. Davis Jr.
Machinist, 20

Ricky W. Davis Jr. of Slate Hill, a machinist for Genpak Cororation in Middletown and a lifelong area resident, died Friday, September 1, 2000, at the Horton Medical Center in Middletown. He was 20 years of age.
The son of Ricky w. Davis Sr. and Lisa La Forge, he was born May 9, 1980, in Middletown.
Mr. Davis was a member of the International Assocation of Machinists & Aerospace Workers District Lodge #15. A 1998 graduate of Minisink Valley High School, he was a member of the Junior ROTC of the school and attended Georgia Military College in Milledgeville, Ga.
He is survived by his mother and step-father, Lisa and Benjamin Wright of Slate Hill; his father of Ormond By The Sea, Fla.; four sisters, Jennifer Lybolt and her husband, Matthew of Middletown, Mary Jo Wright, Alysia Wright and Nicole Wright, all of Slate Hill; a half-brother, Shawn Davis of Ormond By The Sea, Fla.; his maternal grandparents, Edward and Barbara LaForge of Middletown; his maternal great-grandmother, Irma Wheeler of Bloomingburg; two nephews, Michael and Gregory Lybolt of Middletown; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Services were held Monday at the Cornelius, Dodd 7 Connell Funeral Home in Middletown.
Interment was made in Pine Hill Cemetery in the Town of Wawayanda.

Mary E. Buckmaster
Homemaker, 80

Mary E. Buckmaster of Middletown, a homemaker and lifelong area resident, died Sunday, September 3, 2000, at the Horton Medical Center in Middletown. She was 80 years of age.
The daughter of the late Frank and Harriet Beemer Elston, she was born January 17, 1920, in Middletown. She was the widow of William S. Buckmaster.
She is survived by two sons, William S. Buckmaster Jr. of Hortonville and James Buckmaster of Howells; a sister, Betty Boynton of Howells; a sister-in-law, Olive Elston of Walden; three grandchildren, William S. Buckmaster III, David Buckmaster and Dawn Bruce; a great-grandchild, James A. Bruce; and nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by four brothers, Edward Elston, F. Leslie Elston, Charles Elson and Robert Elston.
Services were private.
Burial was made in the Howells Cemetery in Howells.

Joyce A. Walker
Chambermaid, 46

Joyce A. Walker of Grahamsville, a chambermaid at Frost Valley YMCA in Claryville and a lifelong area resident, died Friday, September 1, 2000, at the Seelig Division of Community General Hospital in Harris. She was 46 years of age.
The daughter of the late Eldred and Mary Rankins Marsh, she was born January 16, 1954, in Monticello.
Inm a family statement it was said, "She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and will be sadly missed by us all."
She is survived by her husband, Daniel Walker, at home; a son, Joseph Walker of Steamboat Springs, Colo.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Rachel and Howard Jarvis of Accord and Danielle and Wayne Hajek of Grahamsville; two brothers, Donald Marsh of Nashville, Tenn., and Clinton Marsh of Liberty; five grandchildren, Dylan and Zachary Jarvis, Chelsey Walker, Brittanie Hajek and Wayne Hajek Jr.; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, James and Ronald Marsh.
Services were held Thursday at Ramsay's Funeral Home in Liberty with the Rev. Robert C. Nadelen officiating.
Burial was made in the Sullivan County Veterans Cemetery in Liberty.

Tressa McGraw
Homemaker, 81

Tressa McGraw of Bloomingburg, a homemaker, died Saturday, September 2, 2000, at the Horton Medical Center in Middletown. She was 81 years of age.
The daughter of the late Preston and Wilamina O'Dell, she was born May 16, 1919, in Cochecton. She was the widow of Ivan McGraw.
She is survived by a son, Ivan McGraw Jr. of Ellenville; two brothers, Kingsley and his wife, Marie O'Dell of Downsville, and Fred O'Dell of Walton; two sisters-in-law, Tressa Argent of Horton Brook and June McGraw of Hancock; three grandchildren, Shawn Smith, Sherri McGraw and Shannon VanHorn; and two great-grandchildren, David Smith and Calin Dooney.
Services were held Wednesday at the Henderson-Biedekapp Funeral Home in Hancock with Pastor M. Renzi officiating.
Burial was made in the East Branch Cemetery in East Branch.

Laurence Simpson, 71

Laurence W. Simpson of Middletown, a lifelong area resident, died Monday, September 4, 2000, at the Walnut Mountain Care Center in Liberty. He was 71 years of age.
The son of the late Frank Vincent and Harriet Clark Simpson, he was born January 23, 1929, in Middletown.
He is survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Norma L. and Allan Mitchell of Endicott; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, John Simpson.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Cornelius, Dodd & Connell Funeral Home, 26 Grove St., Middletown, with the Rev. Jeffrey Farley officiating.
Interment will be made in Mt. Hope Plains Cemetery in Otisville.

Elizabeth Hoehn

Elizabeth Hoehn of Middletown, a retired Pearl River Elementary School supervisor, died Sunday, September 3, 2000, at her home.
The daughter of the late Lewis and Annie McCoach Hoehn, she was born in Liberty.
Miss Hoehn was a member the First Congregational Church, Queen Esther Chapter No. 163, Order of the Eastern Star and the Retired Teachers Association, all in Middletown.
She is survived by a sister, Elsie Genegel of Middletown; two nieces, Elizabeth Ann Witt of Chapel Hill, N.C., and Cynthia A. Zimmerman of Bayside; four grandnieces and a grandnephew, Nancy Webb of Ohio, Ann Flynn and Susan Elizabeth Witt, both of North Carolina, and Melissa and Todd Zimmerman.
Graveside services and burial were private at the Wallkill Cemetery in Phillipsburg.

Arthur E. Lavis
Ret. Salesman, 93

Arthur E. Lavis of Callicoon, a retired meat salesman and a 31-year area resident, died Wednesday, September 6, 2000, at the Ellen Memorial Health Care Center in Honesdale, Pa. He was 93 years of age.
The son of the late Arthur and Katie Salter Lavis, he was born January 5, 1907, in England.
He is survived by his wife, Agnes Iselborn Lavis, at home; three children, Lynn H. Buechler of Lakewood, N.J., Diane Schultz of Raleigh, N.C., and Arthur E. Lavis Jr. of Montdale, N.J.; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home in Callicoon on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Saturday at 10 a.m. at Holy Cross R.C. Church in Callicoon with Fr. Ignatius Smith officiating.
Burial will be made in the Holy Cross Section of the New Callicoon Cemetery in Callicoon.

Elmira A. Budd
Homemaker, 87

Elmira A. Budd of Summitville, a homemaker and a lifelong area resident, died Monday, September 4, 2000, at the Seelig Division of Community General Hospital in Harris. She was 87 years of age.
The daughter of the late Truman and Anna Stoutenburgh Phillips, she was born December 20, 1912, in Glenford. She was the widow of Clyde Budd.
Mrs. Budd was a life member of the Wawarsing Chapter #253, Order of the Eastern Star, in Ellenville and a member of the Mamakating United Methodist Church in Summitville.
She is survived by a daughter, Sally Hubert of Kerhonkson; a son, Wallace Budd of Summitville; four grandchildren, Carole Gillette, Jason Budd, Susan Lewis and Ellen Scott; and six great-grandchildren, Michael, Lauren, Brooke, Samantha, Gregory and Alexandrea. She was predeceased by a brother, Albert Phillips.
A memorial service will be held later.
Cremation was private.

Patrick G. Mehrhof
Former Pressman, 44

Patrick G. Mehrhof of Claryville, an employee of Westwood Chemical in Middletown, a former pressman for Georgia Pacific in Warwick and a longtime area resident, died Monday, September 4, 2000, at the Horton Medical Center in Middletown. He was 44 years of age.
The son of the late Edward W. and Catherine Steele Mehrhof, he was born June 28, 1956, in Newark, N.J.
A U.S. Marine Corps veteran, he served in Vietnam.
Mr. Mehrhof is survived by a brother, Edward J. Mehrhof of Wallkill; two sisters, Julie Concepcion of Newark, N.J., and Helen Valentine of Kissimmee, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Philip Mehrhof.
Burial was private.

Maj. Elizabeth Twining
Ret. Army Nurse, 89

Elizabeth McKay Twining of Lewes, Del., a retired Army Nurse, died Thursday, August 24, 2000, at the Lewes Convalescent Center. She was 89 years of age.
The daughter of the late Frederick James and Ella Lowe McKay, she was born in Middletown.
Mrs. Twining graduated from St. John's Episcopal Hospital School of Nursing in Brooklyn in 1932.
She enlisted and set off for France with the 242nd Corps of Army Nurses in 1944. After three years, she was assigned to Fort Lee, Va., but soon returned overseas to Europe during the Korean War. She married Harold Twining in 1957.
In the early 1960s she toured Korea and in 1965 retired from military service having achieved the rank of major. She continued her career as a nurse in Lewes until 1982. She is enrolled in the Women in Military Service for America Foundation and many of her belongings are on display in the permanent collection at the monument located at the base of Arlington National Cemetery.
She is survived by a sister, Vera Reilly of Jeffersonville; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by two sisters, Nell Geib and Laura Oliveira, and two brothers, Leonard and Chester McKay.
Interment will be made at the Evergreen Cemetery in Bethel under the direction of the Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home in Jeffersonville.
