Mr. Kelly loved nature and "all things natural." He was an avid fisherman from the age of five. He worked for 27 years and was involved with the Hudson River cleanup. Among his accomplishments were the establishment of various fisheries including the salmon fisheries in the Neversink Reservoir. He reclaimed ponds for wild "Brookies" and challenged the need for dam proposals on free flowing rivers. Mr. Kelly always felt fortunate to be able to turn his passion for fishing into a lifelong career. He was considered by some to be "the most knowledgeable person of trout streams and fishing in the Catskills." He tied his own flies and is credited with many record trout.
Mr. "As I lived and breathed" Kelly was very well renowned as a "digger" and trader of antique bottles of perhaps legendary status. He bred and sold angel fish from home. He had eclectic tastes in literature (especially American History, scientific and nature publications and Garrison Keiller), music (big bands, '50s jazz, classical etc.), and art (especially Hudson River School painters). He haunted trout streams and rivers in the Catskills in his signature red floppy hat for many years and perhaps will for years to come.
