James A. McGuire
Ret. Farmer, 89

James Augustine McGuire of Neversink, a lifelong area resident and a self-employed farmer, died Thursday, December 7, 2000, at the Seelig Division of Community General Hospital in Harris. He was 89 years of age.
The son of the late Charles and Ellen McGaughran McGuire, he was born July 1, 1911, in Neversink.
Mr. McGuire was also a retired laborer for the New York City Board of Water Supply in Grahamsville. He was a 52-year member and a former fire policeman for the Neversink Fire Department and a member of St. Peter's Church in Liberty.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Anne McCormack McGuire, at home; two daughters, Joan Barkley of Grahamsville and Theresa Bull of Roscoe; two sisters, Mary Everett of Bradley and Margaret Ackerley of Jeffersonville; five grandchildren, James Greenhall of Hurley, Terence Greenhall of Plano, Tex., Thaddeus and Timothy Bull of Roscoe and Denise Bull of Callicoon; and three great-grandchildren, Liam James Greenhall of Hurley and Madison Alexis Greenhall and Grant Lee Greenhall, both of Plano, Tex. He was predeceased by four brothers, Cornelius, Charles, John and Bernard McGuire.
A Mass of Christian Burial was offered Saturday at St. Peter's Church in Liberty.
Burial was made in St. Peter's Cemetery in Liberty.

Funeral arrangements were made by the Ramsay's Funeral Home in Liberty.

Walter R. Townsend
Dairy Farmer, 57

Walter R. Townsend of Cochecton, a dairy farmer and lifelong area resident, died Thursday, December 7, 2000, at the Seelig Division of Community General Hospital in Harris. He was 57 years of age.
The son of Jessie Neill Townsend and the late Elmer Townsend, he was born May 3, 1943, in Callicoon.
A U.S. Air Force veteran, he was a member of the New York State Farm Bureau.
Mr. Townsend is survived by his fianceé Denise Fischer of Cochecton; his mother of Cochecton; a daughter, Traci Schuck of Carthage; a brother, Wayne Townsend of Farmington, N. Mex.; three sisters, Sharon Erdman of Jeffersonville, Lisa Townsend of Youngsville; and Laurie DePaolo of New Castle, Colo.; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Services were held Sunday at the Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home in Jeffersonville with the Rev. William Hagerty officiating.
Burial was made in the Fosterdale Cemetery in Fosterdale.

Doris C. Fahy
Ret. Secretary, 67

Doris Coda Fahy of Westbrookville, a retired secretary at John Coda and Son in Sparrowbush and a more than 50-year resident, died Saturday, December 9, 2000, at the Bon Secours Community Hospital in Port Jervis. She was 67 years of age.
The daughter of the late John and Marie Boglietti Coda, she was born October 12, 1933, in Jersey City, N.J.
Mrs. Fahy was a 1951 graduate of Port Jervis High School. A former secretary at Crescent Silverware in Port Jervis, she was also a former member of the Port Jervis Business and Professional Women and the Westbrookville Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.
In a family statement, it was said, "She was loved by everyone and was known as 'Aunt Doris.' She had been associated with several organizations in the area. She loved to dance and to party."
She is survived by her husband, Charles Fahy, at home; a brother and sister-in-law, Vincent and Amelia Coda, of Sparrowbush; two nephews, William Coda and his wife, Roberta, of Matamoras, Pa., and John Coda of Sparrowbush; and two grand-nephews, Edward Coda and Marc Coda, both of Matamoras, Pa.
Friends may call at the Gray-Parker Funeral Home, 100 East Main St., Port Jervis, on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home followed by an 11 a.m. Mass of the Resurrection at St. Mary's R.C. Church in Port Jervis with the Rev. Dennis M. Dinan officiating.
Burial will be made in Pine Hill Cemetery in Sparrowbush.

Hannah J. Kinne
Homemaker, 87

Hannah J. Kinne of Smallwood, a homemaker, died Saturday, December 9, 2000, at her home, after a brief illness. She was 87 years of age.
The daughter of the late George and Cora Demming Wilding, she was born November 1, 1913, in Olyphant, Pa. She was the widow of Chet Kinne who died in 1976.
In a family statement, it was said, "In her later years, Mom devoted herself to the service of her elderly friends in Smallwood and the Town of Bethel."
She is survived by a daughter, Joyce Jackson of Mongaup Valley; two sons, Roger Taylor of Smallwood and Jack Taylor of Monticello; two brothers, Robert Wilding of Blakely, Pa., and Thomas Wilding of Everett, Mass.; a sister, Eunice Reiss of Philadelphia, Pa.; four grandchildren, Kenneth Taylor, Andrea Catalno, Randall Jackson and Christina Mace; a great-grandchild, Zachary Taylor; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by 12 brothers and sisters.
Friends may call at the Ramsay's Funeral Home, 3534 State Route 55, Kauneonga Lake, on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Kenneth Rodgers officiating.
Burial will be made in the Evergreen Cemetery in Bethel.

Sonia Musa
Egg Wholesaler, 58

Sonia Musa of Liberty, an egg wholesaler at Mt. View Farms in Ferndale and a longtime area resident, died Saturday, December 9, 2000, at her home. She was 58 years of age.
The daughter of David Lehrer and the late Chana Lehrer, she was born July 18, 1942, in Russia.
She is survived by her father of Ferndale; her husband, Richard Musa, at home; a son and daughter-in-law, Edward and Veronica Musa of Neversink; four grandchildren, Danielle, Brendan, Skylar and Jaclyn; a sister, Lea Galant of the state of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.
Services were held Monday at the Congregation Ahavath Israel Synagogue in Liberty with Rabbi Marvin Goldman officiating.
Burial was made in the Liberty Cemetery in Liberty.

Funeral arrangements were made by the Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home in Monticello.

John Allen Kern
Hvy. Equip. Oper., 54

John Allen Kern of Long Eddy, a heavy equipment operator and a lifelong area resident, died Saturday, December 9, 2000, at his home. He was 54 years of age.
The son of Anna Coddington Kern Deck and the late Vernon Kern, he was born November 29, 1946, in Long Eddy.
He is survived by his mother of Obernburg; his wife, Rose Loretta Johnson Kern, and a son, John William Kern, both at home; his step-father, John Deck of Long Eddy; two sisters, Josie Litzenbauer of Damascus, Pa., and Donna Buchanon of Obernburg; a brother, Laverne Kern of Long Eddy; and several nieces and nephews.
There will be no visitation.
A memorial service will be held at the Braman United Methodist Church on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Kathy Grecco officiating.
Cremation was made at the Twin Tiers Crematory in Endicott.

John Nead, 87
Ret. Truck Driver

John Nead of Roscoe, a retired truck driver for Verona Oil Co. and a lifelong area resident, died Sunday, December 10, 2000, at his home. He was 87 years of age.
The son of the late Frank S. and Edna Mattice Nead, he was born April 21, 1913, in Roscoe.
A World War II veteran, he served with the 4th Calvary of the U.S. Army in Northern France. He was a 40-year member of the Rockland Hose Co. #1 and served as a fire policeman.
He is survived by his wife, Charlotte VanDerMark Nead, at home; a son and daughter-in-law, Olan and Cindy Nead of Downsville; five daughters, Darlene Beers and her husband, William, of Roscoe, Muriel Cypert and her husband, David, of Liberty, Sherrie Nead and Tim Byington of Downsville, June Nead of Georgia and Ruth Nead of Woodbourne; two grandsons, Kyle Beers and Charles Nead; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services and burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Riverview Cemetery in Roscoe.

Ruth A. Somers
Homemaker, 85

Ruth A. Somers of Monticello, a homemaker and a lifelong area resident, died Sunday, December 10, 2000, at her home. She was 85 years of age.
The daughter of the late Levi and Isabelle Casterline Brasington, she was born January 27, 1915, in Bridgeville. She was the widow of Charles A. Somers.
Mrs. Somers was a member of the United Methodist Church of Monticello and a charter member of the Monticello Exempt Firemen's Auxiliary.
She is survived by two sons, Robert Somers and his wife, June, of Monticello, and Russell Somers and his fianceé Jill Strong of Monticello; two daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and George Panchyshyn of Cosby, Tenn., and Marilyn and Dennis Bastone of Monticello; two brothers, Alvin Brasington of Monticello and Ralph Brasington and his wife, Mita, of Tequesta, Fla.; a sister, Mildred Thayer of Stockbridge, Mass.; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Donald and Herbert Brasington.
Friends may call at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home, 195 Broadway, Monticello, on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. Rosemary Smith officiating.
Burial will be made in the Messenger Cemetery in Monticello.

Anna D'Abbraccio, 69

Anna Fidanza D'Abbraccio of Forestburgh, a longtime area resident, died Saturday, December 9, 2000, at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City. She was 69 years of age.
The daughter of the late Mariagiovanna Dilello and Michele Fidanza, she was born March 21, 1931, in Castello del Matese, Italy.
She worked for many years in her family restaurant business.
She is survived by her husband, Nicola D'Abbraccio, at home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Angelo and Kerri D'Abbraccio of Forestburgh and Michael and Jackie D'Abbraccio of Monticello; a daughter and son-in-law, Joanne and John Bova of Forestburgh; 10 grandchildren, Nicholas, Joseph, Danielle, Andrew, Annalisa, Juliana, Anthony, Johnny, Michael and Demi; two brothers, Franco Fidanza of Italy and Mario Fidanza of the Bronx; two sisters, Antonietta Granitto of the Bronx and Carolina Fidanza of Italy.
