Locals Do Well at State Level

LIVERPOOL — June 27, 2000 -- Chad Washington of Liberty won the Class
C-D triple jump with a 45-33¦4 effort at the state track and field
meet on June 10 at Liverpool HS outside Syracuse.
Washington, a senior, placed second by two inches in the C-D three-step
a year ago and his effort this year was the sixth best overall at the
state competition.
Calvin Kirkland of Rochester’s Ben Franklin topped the list with a
48-31¦4.
Washington earned a silver in the 100 dash with an 11.35 clocking,
behind Port Jefferson’s (Long Island) John McKeeman (11.15), the
winner. He also placed second in the long jump with a 21-53¦4.
Others who placed second included Joe Iatauro of Tri-Valley in the C-D
1600 (4:24.54); Evan Mullen of Liberty in the C-D high jump (6-0); and
Clarissa Waterton of Monticello in the B triple jump (36-81¦2).
Monticello’s Allison Benson broke her own school record by clearing
10-3 in the Class B pole vault, placing fifth.
Tri-Valley’s Mike Kowalik was third in the shot put with a 48-101¦4
and teammate Zane Illing was fourtth in the 3000 steeplechase with a
personal best 10:05.51.
