CALLICOON July 28, 2000 In a hectic week of
entries, six past champions of the Sullivan County
Democrat Two-Man, Better Ball Golf Tourney at the Villa
Roma have signed up to play in this, the 19th annual
tourney.
It seems the competitive spirit is building and the
teams just keep coming in, Fred Stabbert, tourney
sponsor, said. Villa Roma Golf Pro Matt Kleiner has
done a wonderful job of recruiting and helping some
players find partners. We owe him a big thank you.
The field is now full 56 two-man teams for
the August 11-13 tourney at the Villa Roma Country Club
in Callicoon.
1998 Champion Paul Stock Jr. of Roscoe will be playing
with Dan White. Stock is attending the University of
Charleston in West Virginia where he is a member of the
golf team.
White, who lives in Hancock and works at Tennanah Lake
G.C., plays on the Methodist College golf team in North
Carolina. Next Thursday, Stock will compete in the U.S.
Amateur Qualifier at Otterkill Country Club.
The 1996 Democrat championship team of Dr. Peter Rymer
and David Philossoph will also be competing this year
but with different partners.
Dr. Peter Rymer will join his son, Matt, in what will be
a very competitive team.
And at press time, Philossoph was scheduled to play with
1989 Democrat winner Charles Johnston of Shandelee.
Also joining the field this week is the perennial team of
Marvin Newberg and Sam Hillman, a duo which can explode
on the scoreboard with very low numbers.
1988 winners Jack Jordan and David Solomon have also
thrown their spikes into the ring, hoping to play well
enough to grab another Democrat gold.
