Junior Tour Victory

LOCH SHELDRAKE — August 15, 2000 – If he were to glance at the Catskill Junior Tour (CJT) scores, Monticello High School golf coach Dick O’Neill would have cause to look forward to next spring.
Two of O’Neill’s golfers have made their mark on the CJT this summer: Ben Morganstein has won three events in the boys’ 13-17 division, and last Wednesday Jeff Garfield of Monticello won that age group at the CJT’s Frontier Insurance Junior Tournament.
The tourney was held over the par 72 Lochmor GC in Loch Sheldrake.
“I’ve always been close, in the top 10,” Garfield said of his CJT experience this summer.
Last Wednesday he was part of a foursome which included Sean Semenetz of Jeffersonville, always a threat to win.
“When I knew I was doing better than Sean, I [realized] I still had a chance,” Garfield said.
In a close match, Garfield’s 80 beat out Morganstein and Josh Wilson by one stroke. Two strokes back were Ian Orr of Ferndale and Gregg Semenetz of Jeffersonville.
Sean Semenetz was three strokes off the pace.
