Locals Do Well In
Cross-Country Meets

BEAR MOUNTAIN — October 20, 2000 – Several Sullivan County cross-country teams competed in the Orange County Interscholastic Athletic Association (OCIAA) Divisional meets Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons at Bear Mountain State Park.
The Monticello boys’ and girls’ harrier squads ran in the Division III championship, while boys’ and girls’ teams from Sullivan West and Tri-Valley ran in the Division IV meet.
The Monticello boys finished fourth in Division III with 96 points. In the individual race, Panthers Ed Motl and Ross Feller finished ninth and 13th, respectively. Motl ran the Bear Mountain course in 17:35, while Feller finished in 18:13.
Tony Calabro of Cornwall ran 16:18 to win the race.
In the girls’ individual race, Lady Panther Erin Gerry finished ninth in 21:29. She was the only Monticello runner to finish in the top 15. The winner, with a time of 19:02, was Mary Gillis of Cornwall.
Both Tri-Valley teams captured the Division IV meet, as the boys squad topped county rival Sullivan West, 29-41. (They were the only two schools to have complete teams.)
And the girls scored 47 to Chapel Field’s 53.
A pair of Bears also topped the individual standings as Heather Iatauro (18:40) and Zane Illing (16:46) each beat their competitors to the finish line.
Runners from Sullivan West and Tri-Valley who finished in the top 15 in the boys’ race included: 2. Steven Creek (T-V) 16:49; 4. Adam Bassney (SW) 17:01; 6. Adrien Hobbs (T-V) 17:03; 7. Ian Parnett (SW) 17:03; 8. Steve Mulvihill (SW) 17:20; 9. Todd Goldstein (T-V) 17:24; 10. Kevin McCarthy (SW) 17:25; 12. Matt Parks (SW) 17:35; 13. Brent Rose (SW) 17:57 and 14. Adam Wilson (T-V) 20:28.
In addition, Liberty runners Matt Manzi and Ryan Ringi finished third and fifth in the race. Manzi ran the course in 17:00 and Ringi recorded a 17:02 time.
Other county runners following Iatauro included: 2. Jamie Clifford (SW) 20:54; 3. Danielle Hendrickson (SW) 20:54; 5. Jen Gutman (Eldred) 21:36; 6. Tracy Taylor (T-V) 21:55; 6. Kristen Clifford (SW) 21:55; 8. Jen Sorrentino (T-V) 22:03; 12. Ashley LaMonica (T-V) 23:41 and 15. Becky Dyer (Eldred) 27:21.
Now that the divisional meets have concluded, all of the county runners are preparing for the OCIAA Championship Meet.
The title meet will be held on Friday, October 27 at Bear Mountain State Park.
