ROSCOE November 14, 2000 Although they still have three days until they play again, the Roscoe Lady Blue Devils at least now know who they will be facing in that contest.
Section IX Class D champion Roscoe (1351) will meet Section II (Albany area) champion St. Johnsville (1731) at 4 p.m. Friday in a New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) girls soccer championship semifinal contest. The game will be played at Wheatland-Chili High School in Scottsville, a suburb of Rochester.
St. Johnsville (ranked second in the state among Class D schools) earned a berth in the semifinals with a 4-0 win last Friday over Section VII champion Westport in quarterfinal action. Thirteenth-ranked Roscoe, which captured its second straight Section IX crown on November 3, received a bye into the semifinal round.
(The Lady Blue Devils were slated to take on the Section XI champion this past Friday, but the only Class D girls soccer team in that section, Smithtown Christian Academy, did not qualify for sectional play.)
In the other state semifinal match, Section IV Champion Schenevus (1723) will play Section VI champion Ellicottville (1362). Those two teams will meet at 4 p.m. Friday at Webster High School in Webster, which is another suburb of Rochester.
According to Don Knataitis, who is a former state soccer chairman, the exact time and location of Saturdays state title match has yet to be determined. He said the match could be played at one of the semi-final sites.
The state committee will meet on Thursday and decide the time and location for the final, Knataitis said.
