John Giangiacomo, 78
Ret. Bldg./Health Insp.

John D. "Como" Giangiacomo of Ferndale, a retired building and health inspector for the Village of Liberty, died Sunday, March 18, 2001, at the Horton Medical Center in Middletown. He was 78 years of age.
The son of the late John and Frances Pacifico Giangiacomo, he was born March 17, 1923, in St. Albans. He was the widower of Martha Catalfumo Giangiacomo who died March 5, 2001.
An Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, he was a member the Russell D. Sprague Post #109, American Legion, in Liberty. He was also a member of St. Peter's Church in Liberty and a former member of the Liberty Volunteer Ambulance Corps. He was a founder and president of the Catskill Society of Model Railroads in Liberty, a member of the Liberty Elks Lodge #1545, the Liberty Rotary Club, a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association, and a former Scout leader. Mr. Giangiacomo was a member of the World Wide Marriage Encounter Community, a member and committeeman of the Town of Liberty Republican Club and a former Sullivan County Sheriff's Deputy.
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, John and Susan Giangiacomo of Ferndale; a daughter and son-in-law, Frances and Bill DeBlasio of Huntington, L.I.; a sister, Dell Passeriti of the state of Florida; five grandchildren, William DeBlasio Jr., Lisa M. Dunn and Jonathan, Joseph and Jennifer Giangiacomo; and four great-grandchildren, James P. Kohler, William W. DeBlasio, Nicholas DeBlasio and Kassidy Dunn. He was predeceased by 16 brothers and sisters.
A Mass of Resurrection will be offered at 11:45 a.m. Friday at St. Peter's R.C. Church, 264 North Main St., Liberty.
Burial will be made in the Sullivan County Veterans Cemetery in Liberty.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association of the Hudson Valley, 35 Orchard St., White Plains, N.Y. 10603.
Funeral arrangements were made by the Ramsay's Funeral Home in Liberty.

Charles A. Noran
Ret. Accountant, 81

Charles A. Noran of Smallwood, a retired accountant for the Tetley Tea Company in New York City and a 20-year area resident, died Sunday, March 18, 2001, at the Seelig Division of Community General Hospital in Harris. He was 81 years of age.
The son of the late Charles A. and Maude Adams Noran, he was born December 26, 1919, in Brooklyn.
Mr. Noran was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
He is survived by his wife of 55 1/2 years, Barbara Gardiner Noran, at home; and a son, Charles A. Noran Jr. of Howard Beach.
Private services were followed by interment at the Evergreen Cemetery in Bethel.
Funeral arrangements were made by the Ramsay's Funeral Home in Kauneonga Lake.

Seymour Garchik

Seymour Garchik of Boynton Beach, Fla., a former Hurleyville resident, died Sunday, March 18, 2001.
A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, Mr. Garchik was a Mason, Lion, Elk and a member of the Knights of Pythias.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Lynn Garchik; two sons and daughters-in-law, Howard and Eileen Garchik and Jeffrey and Evelyn Garchik; seven grandchildren, Adam, Rebecca, Scott, Eric, Brian, Alan and Andrew; and a sister, Ida Blatt.
Services were held Tuesday at the Beth Israel Memorial Chapel in Delray, Fla.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Kevin Coll
Sales Mgr., 49

Kevin Coll of Youngsville, a sales manager at the Paramount Best Western Hotel in Parksville, died Tuesday, March 20, 2001, at the Seelig Division of Community General Hospital in Harris. He was 49 years of age.
The son of Mary McHugh Coll and the late John Joseph Coll, he was born March 13, 1952, in Brooklyn.
He is survived by his wife, Norma Hull Coll, at home; his mother of Jeffersonville; two daughters, Jennifer Coll, a student at SUNY Albany, and Melissa Coll, a student at Cornell University; a son, Sean Coll, a student at Ulster County Community College; four brothers, John Coll of Kerhonkson, Brian Coll of Monticello, Jamie Coll of Jeffersonville and Thomas Coll of Brooklyn Heights; a sister, Jane Olsen of Callicoon; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home in Jeffersonville on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Francis' Church in Youngsville with Father Robert Nee, OFM, officiating.
Burial will be made in Calvary Cemetery in Youngsville.

Hildegard Velten, 89
Owned Recreation Farm

Hildegard Frieda Velten of Denison, Tex., the former 16-year co-owner of the Recreation Farm in Fosterdale, died Sunday, March 18, 2001, at the IHS of Texhoma Nursing Home in Sherman, Tex. She was 89 years of age.
The widow of Henry Velten, she and her husband operated the resort during its busiest years.
She is survived by two sons, Ron Velten of Denison, Tex., and Bob Velten of Monticello; and five grandchildren, Julie Velten of Boynton Beach, Fla., Lisa Peters of Bend, Oreg., and Marcus, Mary and Joshua Velten of Denison, Tex.
Funeral services were held Monday at the Waldo Funeral Home in Sherman Tex., with the Rev. Michael Mattil of the Grace Lutheran Church in Denison, Tex., officiating.
Entombment was made in Hollywood, Fla.

Joyce M. Langan
Homemaker, 72

Joyce M. Langan of Roscoe, a homemaker and a longtime area resident, died Monday, March 19, 2001, at the White Plains Hospital. She was 72 years of age.
The daughter of the late R. Clinton and Cozetta Peak Meadows, she was born April 5, 1928, in Binghamton.
Mrs. Langan was a graduate of Walnut Hill Preparatory School in Boston, Mass., and a graduate of Wells College in Aurora.
She is survived by her husband, John "Jack" Langan, at home; two sons, John J. Langan Jr. and his wife, Susan of River Edge, N.J., and Philip C. Langan of Norfolk, Va.; three daughters and sons-in-law, Virginia and Robert C. Kenny of Suffern, Patricia and Peter DeVantier of Roscoe and Elizabeth and Mark Gordon, MD, of Armonk; a sister, June Peterson and her husband, Alfred, MD, of Chenango Bridge; fifteen grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by a son, Michael Langan.
Friends may call at the Harris Funeral Home, Railroad Ave., Roscoe, on Friday, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 a.m. on Saturday at St. Mary's Church in Obernburg with the Rev. Gus Richardson officiating.
Burial will be made in St. Mary's Cemetery in Obernburg.

June E. Hamilton
Ret. Waitress, 75

June E. Hamilton of Cuddebackville, a retired waitress at the former Walt's Diner in Middletown and a longtime area resident, died Tuesday, March 20, 2001, at the Orange County Residential Health Care Center in Goshen. She was 75 years of age.
The daughter of the late Arthur and Helen Pecan Bailey, she was born July 3, 1925, in Mineola. She was the widow of Claude L. Hamilton Sr.
She is survived by a son, Claude L. Hamilton Jr. of Cuddebackville; three granddaughters and six great-grandchildren, all of Arizona; three sisters, Carolyn Wright of Walden and the state of Florida, Diane Kowaski of Windsor, Ohio, and Linda Bizjak of Brea, Ohio; four brothers, Eugene Bailey and Norman Bailey, both of Bloomingburg, Richard Bailey of the state of Florida and James Bailey of Kerhonkson.
Friends may call on Saturday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the William M. Gagan Funeral Home, 1525 Burlingham Road, Pine Bush.
Services will be held at 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with Pastor Robert B. Hewitt officiating.
Cremation will be made at the Cedar Hill Crematory.
Inurnment of the the cremains will be made in the New Prospect Cemetery in Pine Bush.

Filomena Lombardi, 85

Filomena Lombardi of Liberty died Tuesday, March 20, 2001, at the Seelig Division of Community General Hospital in Harris. She was 85 years of age.
The daughter of the late Antonio and Mildred Petucci Lombardi, she was born October 21, 1915, in Brooklyn.
She is survived by a sister, Marjorie Rao; a brother-in-law, Cono Delio; a niece, Nancy Uzzo; a nephew, Alfred Rao; and the staff of the Sullivan County Adult Care Center.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
Interment will be private.
Funeral arrangements were made by the Ramsay's Funeral Home in Liberty.

Robert S. Smith
Brazer/Welder, 66

Robert S. Smith of Port Jervis, a brazer and welder for Aerco International in Northvale, N.J., and a 20-year area resident, died Sunday, March 18, 2001, at the Horton Medical Center in Middletown. He was 66 years of age.
The son of the late Jacob Edward and Dorothy Freeman Smith, he was born June 23, 1934, in Closter, N.J. He was the widower of Dorothy Lasher Smith.
Mr. Smith was a member of the National Rifle Association, the Rondout Valley Rod and Gun Club and Tri-State Rod and Gun Club.
In a family statement, it was said, "He was an avid sportsman who loved to target shoot and was also an artist and craftsman who could create wonderful pieces of woodwork with his hands. He was a loving father and grandfather who will be sadly missed."
He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Charles and Pearl Smith of Port Jervis and James and Wendy Smith of Huguenot; two sisters, Irene Knox of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Dorothy Cunningham of Ocala, Fla.; an uncle, Bob Hunton of Nanuet; a nephew, Johnnie Miracle and his wife, Linda, of Bloomingburg; four grandchildren, Dorothy Smith, Jessica Smith, Charles Smith Jr. and Jamie Lynn Smith; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a son, Robert E. "Bob" Smith.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at the Gray-Parker Funeral Home, 100 East Main St., Port Jervis, with Eileen Perreault officiating.
Burial will be made in the Chester Cemetery in Chester.

Reginald Roberts, 61

Reginald Roberts of Monticello died Friday, March 16, 2001, at the Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla. He was 61 years of age.
The son of the late Harold and Achsh Miller Roberts, he was born February 3, 1940, in New York.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Roberts, at home; a son, Reginald Roberts, and a daughter, Helen Roberts, both of Livingston Manor; three step-daughters, Jillian, Jasmin and Jennifer Rivera, all of Monticello; two sisters, Evelyn Roberts of South Carolina and Nora Roberts; and a brother, Harold Roberts of Ellenville.
Services were held Wednesday at the Colonial Memorial Funeral Home in Woodbourne.
Burial was private.

Malcolm Back Jr. of Jeffersonville died Thursday, March 22, 2001, at the Horton Medical Center in Middletown.
