Janice Harvey
Nurses' Aide, 40

Janice Harvey, a 26-year resident of Monticello and a nurses' aide at Crystal Run in Monticello, died Friday, August 10, 2001, at the Seelig Division of Community General Hospital in Harris. She was 40 years of age.
The daughter of James Cole and the late Clarise Copeland Cole, she was born May 7, 1961, in Pinehurst, N.C.
Mrs. Harvey was a member of King's Chapel Church, Bethlehem Temple Church of Monticello and the Bethlehem Temple Church of Ellenville.
She is survived by her father of Eagle Springs, N.C.; her husband, Michael D. Harvey of Jamaica; a son, Jason Harvey of South Fallsburg; a daughter, Jalessa Cole of Monticello; three stepsons, DaRon, DaQuan and Damont Harvey, all of Jamaica; a sister, Christine Adams and her husband, Franco, of Houston, Tex.; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. She was predeceased by a brother, Jimmy Cole.
Services were held Wednesday at the Ramsay's Funeral Home in Monticello with Bishop Leon Williams officiating.
Cremation was made at the Cedar Hill Crematory in Middle Hope.

Muriel V. Nolan
Ret. PAA Clerk, 84

Muriel V. Nolan of Glen Spey, a retired clerk for Pan American Airlines at JFK Airport in Queens, died Monday, August 13, 2001, at the Seelig Division of Community General Hospital in Harris, after a short illness. She was 84 years of age.
The daughter of the late John and Mary Kirkham Crinnion, she was born October 31, 1916, in New York City. She was the widow of James J. Nolan who died October 19, 1974.
Mrs. Nolan was a member of Sacred Heart R.C. Church in Pond Eddy and the AARP.
She is survived by a son, James M. Nolan of Pond Eddy; a daughter, Arlene J. Harnett of Endicott; a brother, William Crinnion of Valley Stream; two sisters, Anne Corrigan of Bearfoot Bay, Fla., and Grace Pickles of Largo, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Douglas Nolan, Kelly Aukward, Robert J. Nolan, James J. Nolan, Diane J. Harnett, Jacqueline J. Harnett-Rand, and Ryan J. Harnett; five great-grandchildren, Danielle Nolan, Douglas J. Nolan, Matthew Aukward, Matthew Suttie and Sean Ryan Harnett. She was predeceased by a brother, John Crinnion.
A Mass of Christian Burial was offered Thursday at St. Peter's R.C. Church in Monticello with Fr. Robert Ginel officiating.
Burial was made in the Glen Spey Cemetery in Glen Spey.
Funeral arrangements were made by the Ramsay's Funeral Home in Monticello.

Gerald E. Maus, 78
Ret. Hvy. Equip. Oper.

Gerald E. Maus of Roscoe, a retired heavy equipment operator and a lifelong area resident, died Wednesday, August 15, 2001, at his home. He was 78 years of age.
The son of the late John and Bessie Kinne Maus, he was born January 31, 1923, in Acidalia.
A longtime employee of the Town of Rockland Highway Department, he had served as the Town Highway Superintendent. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of the Harold Wood Post No. 5911, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Floyd Keener Post No. 315 of the American Legion, both in Roscoe. Mr. Maus was also a member of the Karan's Hunting Club and a longtime member of the NRA.
In a family statement, it was said, "He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and longtime hunting buddies."
He is survived by his wife, Mildred Soules Maus, at home; two daughters, Linda Buck of Roscoe and Betty Dole of Parksville; a son, Roy Maus of Roscoe; a brother, Walter Maus of Roscoe; a sister, Bernice Mann of Liberty; two sisters-in-law, Laverna Maus of Roscoe and Rita Maus of Jeffersonville; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Harris Funeral Home, Railroad Ave., Roscoe, from noon until 2 p.m. on Friday.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Theo Lynne Hoffman officiating.
Burial will be made in Riverview Cemetery in Roscoe.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Harold Wood Post #4911, VFW or the Floyd Keener Post No. 315, American Legion, both at Roscoe, N.Y. 12776.

Theodore Hlywa, 69
Ret. Maintenance Man

Theodore "Ted" Hlywa of Bloomingburg, a retired maintenance worker for NEPARA Chemical Company in Harriman and a longtime area resident, died unexpectedly on Thursday, August 9, 2001, at his home. He was 69 years of age.
The son of the late Paul and Julia Hlywa Sr., he was born September 17, 1931, in Poland.
Mr. Hlywa was an avid soccer fan and had played in various soccer leagues.
There are no known survivors. He was predeceased by a brother, Paul Hlywa Jr.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 149 Cottage St., Middletown.
Burial will be made in St. Stanislaus Cemetery in Pine Island.

Arthur Pagnozzi, 51

Arthur Ronald Pagnozzi, a 27-year resident of Monticello, died Tuesday, August 14, 2001, at the Seelig Division of Community General Hospital in Harris. He was 51 years of age.
The son of Evelyn Millen Pagnozzi and the late Arthur J. Pagnozzi, he was born November 8, 1949, in Manhattan.
He is survived by his mother of Monticello; two brothers, Douglas Pagnozzi of Yonkers and Glenn Pagnozzi of Monticello; a sister, Elissa Gorman of Monticello; a niece, Danielle Zazon and her husband, Shlomo of Carmel; a nephew, John Bedard Jr. and his wife, Kim, of Alpharetta, Ga.; and a grand-niece, Rachel Zazon of Carmel.
Services were held Thursday at the Ramsay's Funeral Home in Monticello with the Rev. Robert Ginel officiating.
Burial was made in the Sullivan County Veterans Cemetery in Liberty.

Glenn Sherman, 54
Shipping/Rec. Clerk

Glenn Sherman of Wurtsboro, a shipping and receiving clerk for VAW of Ellenville, died suddenly Wednesday, August 15, 2001, in Ellenville. He was 54 years of age.
The son of the late Henry and Pearl Sherman, he was born September 18, 1946, in Middletown.
Mr. Sherman enjoyed hunting and fishing and was devoted to dirt track racing.
In a family statement, it was said, "Glenn was adored by his grandchildren, Ryan and Brittany Ann. He will be sorely missed by all his family and friends."
He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Andrée Caradec Sherman, at home; a son and daughter-in-law, Henry Irving and Regina Sherman of Bloomingburg; a daughter, Glenne Aline Sherman of Cuddebackville; four brothers, Stanley and Carl Sherman of Middletown, Roger Sherman of Wurtsboro and Willard Sherman of Greenville; and two grandchildren, Ryan and Brittany Ann Fuller. He was predeceased by two sisters, Henrietta Taft and Maryanna Bound.
Friends may call at the Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, 130 Highland Ave., Middletown, on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
A Service of Remembrance will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
Burial will be made in the Wallkill Cemetery in Phillipsburgh.

Fernando Vasquez
Ret. Assembly Wkr., 78

Fernando Garcia Vasquez of Ellenville, a former resident of Livingston Manor, a retired assemby line worker for Channel Master Corp. in Ellenville and a longtime area resident, died Tuesday, August 14, 2001, at the Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla. He was 78 years of age.
The son of the late Lucia Santana Vasquez, he was born June 30, 1923, in Puerto Rico.
He is survived by the mother of his children, Maria T. Meletiche of Ellenville; a son, Miguel Garcia of Ellenville; four daughters, Carmen Garcia of Ellenville, Lucila Garcia of Ellenville, Judith Garcia of the Bronx, and Iris DeJesus of Ellenville; several grandchildren, including, Jose Garcia, Alma Dis Velazquez, Julio Velazquez, Charesia Sutton and Jasmin Sutton; a great-granddaughter, Samantha Ashley Valezquez; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Fernando Garcia Jr.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Loucks Funeral Home, 79 North Main St., Ellenville.

Muriel Funcheon
Ret. LPN, 78

Muriel M. Funcheon of Riverdale, N.J., a former Tomkins Cove resident, died Sunday, August 12, 2001, at her home. She was 78 years of age.
The daughter of the late Felix and Margaret Nevins Gannon, she was born July 24, 1923, in Queens. She was the widow of Edward Funcheon.
Mrs. Funcheon worked at the Tomkins Cove Library and was also a Licensed Practical Nurse at the Helen Hayes Hospital, serving in both capacities for many years.
She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary in Tomkins Cove and a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Stony Point.
In a family statement, it was said, "Muriel was a devoted mother and grandmother who touched the lives of everyone who knew her."
She is survived by five sons and four daughters-in-law, William and Alexa Funcheon of Stony Point, James Funcheon and John and Lee Funcheon, all of Lake Worth, Fla., Thomas and MaryJean Funcheon of Washingtonville, and Philip and Donna Funcheon of Parksville; two daughters and sons-in-law, Muriel and Peter Greenstein of Lake Worth, Fla., and Peggy and Vernon June of Riverdale, N.J.; 16 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by two sons, Edward and Paul Funcheon.
A Mass of Christian Burial was offered Thursday at the Immaculate Conception Church in Stony Point.
