Stella L. Sullivan
Ret. Nurse, 77

Stella Lavinski Sullivan, a retired registered nurse from Middletown State Hospital School of Nursing Class of 1944, died Sunday, August 19, 2001 at Horton Medical Center, Middletown. She was 77 years of age.
The daughter of the late Frank and Julia Dembeck Lavinski, she was born on October 6, 1923 in Florida, NY.
Stella retired from Orange County Infirmary and was a proud member of CSEA.
She is survived by her daughter, Julia Anne of Middletown; two sons, John and his wife Joan of Greenville, and Kevin of Middletown; two brothers, Theodore Lavinski of Callicoon Center and James Lavinski of Naples, FL; and five grandchildren, Lisa, Greg, Dominick, Jonathan and Jason; and five great-grandchildren; special friends "Aunt" Evelyn Lord and Joyce Sullivan; and many nieces and nephews.
Stella was predeceased by her husband, John J. Sullivan Jr., and brothers John and Frank.
Following cremation, graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family at Holy Name Cemetery, Jersey City, NJ.
Memorial contributions in Stella's name may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Irene Jones, 75

Irene Jones of Okeechobee, FL, died Saturday, August 18, 2001 at Martin Memorial Medical Center in Stuart, FL. She was 75 years of age.
Mrs. Jones moved to Florida 16 years ago and to Okeechobee six years ago from Boca Raton. She was the past president of the American Legion Auxiliary, past assistant state director of the Good Samaritan Club and past member of the VFW.
Predeceased by her first husband Robert F. Schillinger, formerly of Liberty, in 1971, she is survived by her husband Casey Jones of Okeechobee; four daughters, Cynthia VanSant of Scottsdale, AZ, Donna L. Hood of Okeechobee, FL, Joanne Jones of Berkeley, CA, and Deborah Stiels of Scottsdale, AZ; one brother, Harry Krum of Elmira, NY; two sisters, Florence Peterson of Paramus, NJ and Bertha Fischer of Walden, NY; and four grandchildren.
Funeral services will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 6725 Lyons St., PO Box 7E, E. Syracuse, NY 13057.

Lucille E. Freeman
Groundskeeper, 63

Lucille E. Freeman of Monticello, a 43-year resident, died Sunday, August 19, 2001 at Community General Hospital, Harris. She was 63 years of age.
The daughter of the late Lawrence and Edna Borge Edwards, she was born March 3, 1938 in Mobile, AL. She was the widow of Lloyd Freeman.
Mrs. Freeman had worked for the Town of Thompson at Holiday Mountain Ski Area as a groundskeeper. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Monticello.
She is survived by three sons, Warren Dumas and his wife Lucille, Al Dumas and his wife Mary, and Jamil Freeman, all of Monticello; four daughters, Beverly Edwards of Hilton Head Island, SC, Deborah Edwards of Tuscaloosa, AL, Vanessa Dumas-Davis and her husband Philip of Jonesboro, GA, and Sonia Dumas of Monticello; three brothers, Lawrence Edwards and Roosevelt James, both of Mobile, AL, and Horace Hatchet of WV; five sisters, Martha Law, Bernice Edwards, Mary Williams, Florine Allen and Alfreda Lee, all of Mobile, AL; four brothers-in-law; 20 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
She was predeceased by two brothers, Willie Edwards and Emanuel Edwards; and one sister, Vera Watts.
Funeral services will be held today at 12 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, Liberty Street, Monticello. The Rev. Mary Alli will officiate.
Burial will be in Rock Ridge Cemetery, Monticello.

Sarita Rappaport, 71

Sarita Rappaport of Aventura, FL, a former Monticello resident, died Wednesday, August 22, 2001 in Staten Island, NY. She was 71 years of age.
Sarita was born in Havana, Cuba on February 15, 1930.
Survivors include her husband, David “Butch” Rappaport; a daughter, Sharon of Staten Island; a son, Alan of Massapequa, NY; three sisters-in-law, Anne Kaplan of Monticello, Rose Rappaport of Florida and Nettie Salzman and husband Irving of Florida; a brother-in-law, Murray Rappaport and wife Phyllis of California; four grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. today at the I.J. Morris Funeral Home, Dix Hills, NY, with interment to follow at the New Montefiore Cemetery, Farmingdale, NY.
Shiva will be at the home of Sharon Rappaport, 399 Hawthorne Ave., Staten Island, NY 10314.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the cancer fund of one’s choice.

George G. Nichols Sr.
Retired Custodian, 81

George G. Nichols Sr., a fifty year area resident and retired custodian for Liberty Central Schools, died on Wednesday, August 22, 2001 at Community General Hospital, Harris. He was 81 years of age.
The son of Theron and Lottie Merritt Nichols, he was born on July 15, 1920 in Justin, PA.
Mr. Nichols was a World War II U.S. Army Veteran, serving from 1942 to 1945. He was a member of Clarence Hoyt Post #9217 VFW.
Survivors include his loving wife, Helen Merritt Nichols, whom he married on September 25, 1968 in Livingston Manor; four sons, George G. Nichols Jr. and Thomas R. Nichols of Liberty, Gary W. Nichols of Nashville, TN, and Timothy J. Nichols of Zionville, NC; one daughter, Patricia Grant of Liberty; ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Cremation will take place at Cedar Hill Crematory, Newburgh, NY.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday, August 25 at 11 a.m. at Laurel Hill Cemetery, White Sulphur Springs. Rev. Allen Wachter will officiate.
