Lillian Stabbert, 97
Retired Assistant Designer
Lillian Stabbert, a recent resident at the Roscoe Community Nursing Home, a retired assistant designer for the garment industry in New York City and upon retirement a former resident of Obernburg, died Tuesday, October 16, 2001, at the nursing home. She was 97 years of age.
The daughter of the late Frank and Helena Schliemer Stabbert, she was born January 27, 1904, in Obernburg.
Miss Stabbert was a member of St. Mary's Church in Obernburg.
In a family statement, it was said, "Although she spent all of her adult life in Flushing, L.I., she was in constant touch with her home town and visited frequently."
She is survived by a niece, Anne Foland of Middletown; two nephews, Robert Stabbert of Miami Beach, Fla., and Fred Stabbert Jr. of Callicoon; eleven grandnieces and grandnephews and eighteen great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Fred Stabbert Sr. and Herman Stabbert; a sister, Margaret Roche; a nephew, Edwin Stabbert and a niece, Joy Larkin.
There will be no visitation.
A Memorial Mass will be offered at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Obernburg with Father Gus Richardson officiating.
Burial of the cremains will be made in St. Mary's Cemetery in Obernburg at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.
Funeral and cremation arrangements were made by the Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home in Callicoon.
Melissa Jane Krull
Infant, 2
Melissa Jane Krull, the two-year-old daughter of Charles A. and Alison Kellam Krull of Seelyville, Pa., died unexpectedly at the Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Pa., on Friday, October 12, 2001.
She was born in Honesdale, Pa., on October 27, 1999.
Melissa is survived by her parents, at home; her maternal grandparents, Allen and Miriam Kellam of Hankins; her paternal grandparents, Gloria Sobolak of Milanville, Pa., and Alexander Krull of North Carolina; three sisters, Rachel, Jennifer and Sara Krull, all at home; a step-brother, Keith; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Services were held Monday at the Honesdale Gospel Tabernacle with the Rev. Dr. Paul Williamson officiating.
Interment was made in the Calkins Union Cemetery in Calkins, Pa.

William D. Lodrini, 15
9th Grade Student
William D. Lodrini of Parksville, a ninth grade student at the Liberty High School, and a longtime area resident, died Tuesday, October 16, 2001, at his home. He was 15 years of age.
The son of Dennis R. and the late Dawn E. Jerome Lodrini, he was born July 31, 1986, in Charlotte, N.C.
He was a member of the Liberty Elk's Lodge Saturday Teen Bowling League at the Liberty Lanes.
William is survived by his father and stepmother, Dennis R. and Diane M. Lodrini, and a step-brother, Daniel Hirsch, all at home; his paternal grandfather, Silvo Lodrini of Clintondale; his maternal grandparents, Ruth and Eugene Rogers of Vero Beach, Fla.; his godfather, Ronald J. Lodrini of South Salem; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Friends may call at the Harris Funeral Home, West Street at Buckley, Liberty, on Friday from 3-5 and 7 to 9 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11:45 a.m. Saturday at St. Peter's Church, 264 North Main St., Liberty, with Monsignor Edward Straub officiating.
Burial will be made in the Lloyd Union Cemetery in New Paltz.
David A. Knack
Ret. Designer, 42
David A. Knack, a 15-year resident of Sarasota, Fla., a former designer of marble and granite in Sarasota, a former resident of Callicoon Center and a former employee of Villa Roma, died Tuesday, October 16, 2001. He was 42 years of age.
The son of Marjorie A. Knack and the late Rusty Knack, he was born August 28, 1959, in Callicoon. He was a graduate of the Jeffersonville-Youngsville Central School, Class of 1978.
Mr. Knack is survived by his mother of Sarasota, Fla.; a sister, Cynthia L. Smith of Sarasota, Fla. two brothers, Paul D. Knack of Sarasota, Fla. and the state of Virginia, and James A. Knack of Northport, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services and burial will be made at 10 a.m. Friday at the Palms Memorial Park in Sarasota, Fla.

Rose Irene Sargeant of Westbrookville, a lifelong area resident, died Wednesday, October 17, 2001, at the Horton Medical Center in Middletown. She was 84 years of age.
The daughter of the late Patrick and Laura Brown Monroe, she was born October 1, 1917, in Andes.
In a family statement, it was said, "She was an at-home loving mother and grandmother. Her whole life was her family."
She is survived by her husband, Walter R. Sargeant Jr. of Middletown; a daughter, Mae I. Morris of Westbrookville; two sisters, Norma Sargeant of Endicott and Susan O'Brien of Yankee Lake; six grandchildren, Terri M. Kobo and her husband, David, of Wurtsboro, Pamela R. Schoonmaker of Wurtsboro, Walter I. Schoonmaker Sr. and his wife, Sandra, of Westbrookville, Ted W. Morris Jr. of Westbrookville, Roy Schoonmaker and his wife, Patricia, of Pasadena, Tex., and Kevin L. Schoonmaker and his fianceé Gerilyn Tainsky of Godeffroy; 11 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her step-father, George Peters, a brother, David Monroe, and two sisters, Catherine Perkowski and Sara Morris.
Friends may call at the Gray-Parker Funeral Home, 100 E. Main St., Port Jervis, on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be private.
Burial will be made in the Westbrookville Cemetery in Westbrookville.

Ernestine Costa, a 20-year resident of Great Falls, Va., a homemaker and former Grahamsville resident, died Sunday, September 16, 2001, at her home. She was 69 years of age.
She was born September 4, 1932, in Grandview, Ind.
In a family statement, it was said, "She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many."
Mrs. Costa is survived by her husband, Mario, at home; two daughters, Debbie Ballentine of Waterford, Va., and Denise Costa of Leesburg, Va.; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Fred and Mickie Costa of Grahamsville; a sister-in-law, Wiltrud Costa of New Hampton; two grandchildren, Sarah and Jeremy Ballentine of Waterford, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.
Services were held September 20 in Sterling, Va.
Private interment was made in Leesburg, Va.

Dennis D. Burger of Loch Sheldrake, a security officer at the Pine Hotel and a lifelong area resident, died Sunday, October 14, 2001, at the Seelig Division of the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. He was 55 years of age.
The son of the late George and Florence Sheley Burger, he was born January 14, 1946, in Ellenville.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, JoAnne Conklin Burger, at home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Leroy and Georgette McKendall and Dennis Jr. and Victoria Burger, all of Loch Sheldrake; two daughters and sons-in-law, Setley and Louis Maldonado of the state of Florida and Theresa and Jerry Call of Hurleyville; four brothers, H.O. Burger of Greenfield Park, Vernon Burger of Loch Sheldrake, Harry Burger of Woodbourne and Darcy Burger of Loch Sheldrake; 14 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Services were held Wednesday evening at the Colonial Memorial Funeral Home in Woodbourne with the Rev. Robert Pinto officiating.
Cremation was made at the Cedar Hill Crematory in Middle Hope.

William Nadekow
Ret. Police Chief, 72
William Nadekow of Grahamsville, a retired Fallsburg Police Chief and a longtime area resident, died Tuesday, October 16, 2001, in Grahamsville. He was 72 years of age.
The son of the late Paul and Anna Nadekow, he was born January 9, 1929, in New York City.
Mr. Nadekow was a member of the Fallsburg PBA, Woodbourne Fire Department, the Concerned Citizens of Hasbrouck and the Woodbourne Reformed Church. He was also a Cub Scout Leader.
In a family statement, it was said, "He was a gentle and well-loved man who would do anything for anybody in his community and everything for his family. He will be sorely missed by all."
He is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Mike Schatzberg of Moon, Va., Linda and Bob Shaw of Greenfield Center and Connie and Furman Romero of Grahamsville; a son and daughter-in-law, Bill A. and Candy Nadekow of Glen Allen, Va.; a sister and brother-in-law, Olga and Harold Brola of Arizona; seven grandchildren, Michael and Danielle Schatzberg, Jennifer Davies, Stephanie Shaw, Jason, Kimberly and Rebecca Romero; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Nicholas, and a sister, Barbara.

Robert T. Williams
Ret. Laundry Wkr., 71
Robert T. Williams of Woodridge, a 30-year area resident and a retired employee of the American Steam Laundry in Woodridge, died at the Seelig Division of the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris on Thursday, October 11, 2001. He was 71 years of age.
He was born July 21, 1930, in Chadbourn, N.C.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, serving from 1953 to 1956.
He is survived by a niece, Carrie Ryder of Monticello; a nephew, Robert Williams of Chadbourn, N.C.; an aunt, Margaret of Chadbourn, N.C.; two grandnieces, Brenda Ryder and Gwendolyn Beam, both of Monticello; three nephews, Michael and Clifford Ryder, both of Monticello, and Jarius DeWalt of Montclair, N.J.
There was no visitation.
Services were held on Wednesday at the First Baptist Church in Monticello with the Rev. James Matthews officiating.
Burial was made in the Sullivan County Veterans Cemetery in Liberty.

Dr. Chester Fritz
Ret. Dentist, 82
Dr. Chester O. Fritz, a retired dentist in private practice in Hatboro, Pa., died Friday, October 5, 2001, at his home. He was 82 years of age.
The son of the late William M. and Sadie Grant Fritz, he was born in Liberty on April 15, 1919.
Dr. Fritz was a graduate of Temple University Dental School, Class of 1943. He served as a Captain in the Army Dental Corps during World War II.
He opened a private practice in Hatboro, Pa., and after 33 years of practice retired in 1988. He was a member of the Pennsylvania Dental Society, a past president of Montgomery Bucks Dental Society, a vestry member of St. Anne's Episcopal Church and a 32nd degree Mason of W.K. Bray Lodge in Hatboro, Pa.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mildred Upperman Fritz, at home; a daughter, Lorye L. George of St. Helena, Calif.; a son, William C. Fritz of Emmaus, Pa.; a brother, Carlton W. Fritz of Liberty; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial services were held at St. Anne's Episcopal Church, Trexlertown, Pa., on October 9 after which his ashes were placed in the St. Anne's Memorial Garden.
Leonard Smith
Ret. Store Owner, 91
Leonard Smith of Harris, a retired candy store owner and operator in the Bronx and a longtime area resident, died at the Skilled Nursing Unit of the Seelig Division of the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris on Monday, October 15, 2001. He was 91 years of age.
The son of the late Ben Tzion and Jennie Aaronson Smith, he was born September 8, 1910, in the Bronx. He was the widow of Betty Fund Smith.
He is survived by two sons, Ben Tzion Smith of South Fallsburg and Harold Smith and his wife, Carol, of Liberty; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Services were held Tuesday at the Woodridge Synagogue in Woodridge with Rabbi Irving Goodman officiating.
Burial was made in the Woodridge Synagogue Cemetery in Glen Wild.

Sadie E. Chellis

Sadie E. Chellis of Jeffersonville, a homemaker and lifelong area resident, died Wednesday, October 17, 2001, at the Roscoe Community Nursing Home. She was 87 years of age.
The daughter of the late John and Emma Mennett Eggler, she was born May 5, 1914, in Bethel. She was the widow of Edwin E. Chellis.
Mrs. Chellis was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Jeffersonville and the Catksill Antique Car Club.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Joann and Bruce Madden of Jeffersonville; a son and daughter-in-law, Ed "Butch" and Marilyn Chellis of Jeffersonville; a brother, Ralph Eggler of White Sulphur Springs; a sister-in-law, Mary Eggler of Jeffersonville; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister and brother-in-law, Marie and Roy Norris; two brothers, Leo and Cappie Eggler and a sister-in-law, Louise Eggler.
