Edward P. Lane

Edward Paul Lane of Bethesda, Md., a World War II veteran and former Monticello resident, died Saturday, October 20, 2001.
He is survived by four children, Judith Blauch, Elissa Valdez, Walter Lane and Elizabeth Sheppard; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Graveside services and burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the Rock Ridge Cemetery in Monticello.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association of Washington, 7910 Woodmont Ave., #1100, Bethesda, Md. 20814.
Funeral arrangements were made by the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home in Monticello.

Mildred C. Allen
Homemaker, 96

Mildred C. Allen of Monticello, a homemaker and lifelong area resident, died Friday, October 26, 2001, at the Sullivan County Adult Care Center in Liberty. She was 96 years of age.
The widow of Frank Allen, she was born in Callicoon on June 14, 1905.
Mrs. Allen was a member of the Rock Hill Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.
She is survived by a sister, Rita McCreery of Monticello; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services and burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday at the Rock Ridge Cemetery, East Broadway, Monticello.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Rock Hill Fire Department or to the Rock Hill Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, Rock Hill, N.Y. 12775.
Funeral arrangements were made by the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home in Monticello.

E. Virginia Deighton
Homemaker, 83

Evelyn Virginia Deighton of Swago Lake, (Damascus) Pa., died Friday, October 26, 2001, at her home after an illness. She was 83 years of age.
The daughter of the late Robert L. and Elizabeth Hull Keesler, she was born July 22, 1918, in Conklin Hill, Pa.
Mrs. Deighton was a 1936 graduate of Damascus High School. She was an egg spotter and packer at the former Sherwood Farms in Galilee, Pa.
An avid pinochle player, Mrs. Deighton was a member of the Delaware Valley Senior Citizens and the Jeffersonville Senior Citizens. She also enjoyed quilting, socializing with her friends, and helped to raise funds for the upkeep of the inactive Conklin Hill Church.
She and her husband, Richard H. Deighton, celebrated 65 years of marriage on October 10 this year.
Mrs. Deighton is survived by her husband, at home; a son and daughter-in-law, Melvin R. and Elizabeth Deighton of Budd Lake, N.J.; a daughter, Shirley Deighton of New Bloomfield, Pa.; two grandchildren, Richard and Virginia Deighton, both of Florida; several great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; two sisters, Mary E. Sherwood of Galilee, Pa., and Doris J. Mitchell of Damascus, Pa.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by a sister, Roberta Bortree.
Friends may call at the Arthur A. Bryant Funeral Home, 1228 North Main Street, Honesdale, Pa., on Tuesday from noon to 1 p.m.
Services will be held at the funeral home at 1 p.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Paul McCauley of the Central United Methodist Church in Honesdale, Pa., officiating.
Interment will be made in the Hillside Cemetery in Damascus, Pa.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Damascus Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Tyler Hill, Pa. 18469.

Arthur J. Ruppert, 73
Ret. Air Force/Educator

Arthur John Ruppert of Georgetown, Tex., a retired U S. Air Force Lieutenant Colonel and educator, died Thursday, September 27, 2001, at his home. He was 73 years of age.
The son of the late Conrad and Anna Kohler Ruppert, he was born June 10, 1928, in Middletown.
As a youth, his family moved to Kenoza Lake. He was a 1946 graduate of Jeffersonville Central School.
Mr. Ruppert entered Officers Training School in San Antonio, Tex., and graduated as a 2nd Lieutenant in 1954. Serving at various assignments, he was a veteran of the Vietnam War where he was a forward air controller. After retirement from the U.S. Air Force, he taught electronics at the Austin Community College in Texas for about 25 years.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Hopson Ruppert, at home; two daughters, Regina Ethune of Austin, Tex., and Anna Serrett of Kingswood, Tex.; three grandchildren, Kara Bishop and Dylan and Maddie Serrett; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Conrad and Margery Ruppert of Cape Cod, Mass., and Warren and Alice (Schaefer) Ruppert of Colorado Springs, Colo; a sister-in-law, Clara Ruppert of Kenoza Lake; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Robert Sr., and a sister, Margaret Ruppert.
Services were held in Texas, followed by burial with military honors at the Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Tex., on October 1.

Alexander Lehmann-Haupt
Health Advocate, 59

Alexander "Sandy" Lehmann-Haupt of Callicoon Center, a mental health peer advocate for Action Toward Independence in Middletown, died Sunday, October 28, 2001, at the Hudson Valley Hospital in Peekskill. He was 59 years of age.
The son of the late Helmut and Letitia Griers Lehmann-Haupt, he was born March 22, 1942, in New York City.
Mr. Lehmann-Haupt is survived by his wife, Fredricka Byers Lehmann-Haupt, at home; three brothers, Christopher, Carl and John Lehmann-Haupt, a sister, Roxanne Lehmann-Haupt, and a niece and a nephew, Rachel and Noah Lehmann-Haupt, all of New York City.
Friends may call at the Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home in Callicoon on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Hankins Assembly of God Church in Hankins with Pastor Bob Paquet officiating.
Burial will be made in the Jeffersonville Presbyterian Cemetery in Jeffersonville.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.
