Natalio Alizea
Retired Cook, 76
Natalio "Charlie" Crespo Alizea of Liberty, a 52-year area resident and a retired cook for the former Triangle Diner and the restaurant in the former Sullivan's Department Store, both in Liberty, died Thursday, December 6, 2001, at the Seelig Division of the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. He was 76 years of age.
The son of the late Sergio and Ramona Alizea Crespo, he was born November 2, 1925, in Puerto Rico.
Mr. Alizea was a member of St. Peter's Church in Liberty.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Elizabeth Houghtaling Alizea, at home; five sons, Charles Crespo of Parksville, Anthony Crespo of Liberty, Roy Crespo of Bradley, Natalio Crespo Jr. of Syracuse and David Crespo of Atlanta, Ga.; a daughter, Linda Crespo of Chattanooga, Tenn.; 16 brothers and sisters in Puerto Rico; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Ramsay's Funeral Home, 275 S. Main St., Liberty, on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at St. Peter's Church in Liberty on Wednesday at 11:45 a.m. with Monsignor Edward Straub officiating.
Burial will be made in St. Peter's Cemetery in Liberty.
Charles Kelly III, 61
Ret. NYC Police Officer
Charles P. Kelly III of Middletown, a retired New York City Police Officer, former resident of Yulan and 28-year area resident, died Thursday, December 6, 2001, at his home. He was 61 years of age.
The son of the late Charles P. Jr. and Margaret Worsdale Kelly, he was born March 17, 1940, in Brooklyn.
Mr. Kelly was a veteran of the U. S. Army.
He is survived by a son, Charles P. Kelly IV of Tinton Falls, N.J.; four daughters, Ann Kelly of New York City, Kathy Wood of Port Jervis, Patricia Crowley of Ballston Lake, and Christine Moore of Leavenworth, Kans.; a brother, Timothy Kelly of Long Island; and eight grandchildren.
Graveside services and burial were held Saturday at St. Anthony's Cemetery in Eldred with the Rev. Evan Greco officiating.

Gertrude Constant
Ret. Plant Super, 94
Gertrude Elizabeth Constant of Ellenville, a lifelong area resident and a retired 54-year plant supervisor for Rosenstock and Sons, died Thursday, December 6, 2001, at the Ellenville Regional Hospital. She was 94 years of age.
The daughter of the late Elsworth and Julia Hill McDole, she was born in Lackawack on April 20, 1907. She was the widow of Ira A. Constant.
Mrs. Constant was a member of St. John's Memorial Episcopal Church in Ellenville.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Robert and June Constant of Ellenville; four grandsons and their wives, Richard and Charlene Constant of Greenfield Park, Russell and Lillian Constant of Roscoe, Jeffrey and Penny Constant of Neversink, and Gary and Donna Constant of Ellenville; five great-grandchildren, Jaclyn, Heather, Christopher, Jason and Rachel Constant; a step-grandson, Jesse Wall; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Ruth Coughlin, and a brother, William McDole.
Services were held Saturday at St. John's Memorial Episcopal Church with the Rev. Greg Wood officiating.
Burial was made in Fantinekill Cemetery in Ellenville.

Vivian Edna Hadden of Durham, N.C., a retired elementary school teacher in the Fallsburg Central School District with over 25 years service, died Sunday, December 9, 2001, at the Triangle Hospice in Hillsborough, N.C. She was 83 years of age.
The daughter of the late Henry Lee and Edna Zoe Cassidy Van Vleet, she was born July 31, 1918, in Romulus. She was the widow of William Donald Hadden.
Mrs. Hadden was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority.
She is survived by a son, Gary Harrison Hadden of Durham, N.C .; a sister, Priscilla Scanlan of South Otselic; two brothers, David Edward Van Vleet of Durham, N.C., and Henry Van Vleet of Tucson, Ariz.; three grandchildren, Christopher, William Hadden and Elizabeth D. Hadden; and a great-grandchild, Brett Hadden.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Aldersgate United Methodist Church with Johnny Branch officiating.

Minnie M. Beckmann of Winterton, a homemaker and a 56-year area resident, died Wednesday, December 5, 2001, at the Horton Medical Center in Middletown. She was 92 years of age.
The daughter of the late Claus and Augusta Karsten Tiedemann, she was born May 23, 1909 in Osterbruch, Germany. She was the widow of John F. Beckmann.
Mrs. Beckmann was a member of the Women's Association of Webb Horton Memorial Presbyterian Church in Middletown, a member of the Bloomingburg Grange and Pomona Grange and was active with the Bloomingburgh Restoration Foundation, all in Bloomingburg.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Hilda and Benjamin Whitby of Middletown; two grandchildren, Debra Pingotti and her husband, Frank, and Brian Whitby, all of Middletown; a great-granddaughter, Rachel Lynn Whitby of Middletown; two nieces; and a nephew. She was predeceased by a brother, Robert Tiedemann, and a sister, Anna Miller.
Services were held Saturday at the Cornelius, Dodd & Connell Funeral Home in Middletown with the Revs. Kenneth and Susan Faye Wonderland officiating.
Burial was made in the Howells Cemetery in Howells.

Harold K. Dolson

Harold Kenneth Dolson of Middletown, a retired salesman for UpJohn Pharmaceuticals and a lifelong area resident, died Thursday, December 6, 2001, in Middletown. He was 98 years of age.
The son of the late David and Emma Ruddick Dolson, he was born August 29, 1903, in Kauneonga Lake. He was the widower of Eleanor Vogel Dolson.
Mr. Dolson is survived by two nieces, Geraldine Wells Foss of the State of Florida, and Shirley Murray of New Hampton; and a nephew, Emil B. Wells of the State of Florida.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Ralston, Lippincott, Hasbrouck, Ingrassia Funeral Home, 72 West Main St., Middletown, with the Rev. Peter Rustico officiating.
Interment will be made in the Wallkill Cemetery in Phillipsburg.

Beatrice Masker of Lake Huntington, a chambermaid at the Villa Roma Resort in Callicoon, died Thursday, December 6, 2001, at the Sullivan County Adult Care Center in Liberty. She was 60 years of age.
The daughter of the late Leone and Dorothy Goodwin Masker, she was born December 29, 1940, in Hawley, Pa.
She is survived by two daughters, Yulanda Hendrix of Jeffersonville and Gladys Hendrix of Cochecton; four sons, Michael Ramirez of the state of Florida, Joseph Ramirez of Youngsville, William Ramirez of Jeffersonville and John McCormick of Pennsylvania; three sisters, Betty Bidwell, Alberta Silva and Mary Lou Hartz, all of Honesdale, Pa.; ten grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Arthur Masker.
Services were held Sunday at the Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home in Jeffersonville with the Rev. James O'Rourke officiating.
Burial was made in the Fosterdale Cemetery in Fosterdale.

Harold L. Bertsch of Sparrowbush, a retired foreman for Con Edison and a lifelong area resident, died Saturday, December 8, 2001, at the Bon Secours Community Hospital in Port Jervis. He was 93 years of age.
The son of the late Louis and Wilhelminia Wehner Bertsch, he was born November 10, 1908, in Cochecton. He was the widower of Muriel Dieck Bertsch.
Mr. Bertsch was a member of the Sparrowbush United Methodist Church.
In a family statement, it was said, "A man really never dies while there are those on Earth who love him. . . A man is never gone as long as there are those who remember him with fondness. . . and as long as his memory evokes a wistful smile.
"No sad tears for me, please."
He is survived by a daughter, Muriel Belcher of Great Bend, Kans.; four grandchildren, Karen Massey of Salina, Kans., Kevin Belcher and Kimberly Schwerdtfeger, both of Great Bend, and Karla Dotson of Wichita, Kans.; 11 great-grandchildren, Tabitha Smith, Ashley and Noah Craig, Tara, Joshua, Victoria and Briana Belcher, Nicholas, Nichelle and Lance Schwerdtfeger, and Lance Dotson; and a great-great-granddaughter, Kaitlyn Smith. He was predeceased by two sisters, Louisa Bertsch and Florence Emerson.

William Swendsen
Farmer, 73
William J. Swendsen of Milanville, Pa., a farmer and lifelong area resident, died Saturday, December 8, 2001, at the Mercy Hospital in Scranton, Pa. He was 73 years of age.
The son of the late Russell and Edna Taylor Swendsen, he was born April 27, 1928, in Honesdale, Pa.
Mr. Swendsen was a member of the Damascus Township Historical Society, the Damascus Manor, the Boyds Mills Hunting Club, the Damascus Township Planning Board and a member of the Damascus Township Hunting Club. He was a former member of the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau and the Wayne County Extension Service.
He is survived by his wife, Alberta Swendsen, at home; five sons and three daughters-in-law, Richard and Cindy Swendsen of Cooperstown, Pa., Gary Swendsen of Waymart, Pa., Harvey and Carla Swendsen of Milanville, Pa., Dale and Trudy Swendsen of Manheim, Pa., and Fred Swendsen of Milanville, Pa.; a daughter and son-in-law, Lori and Perry Hecknan of Mohrsville, Pa.; and 12 grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Lloyd Swendsen.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. William Rushik officiating.

Josephine "Jo" L. Diescher of Livingston Manor, a partner with her husband in Jovic Enterprises, the program director for the Livingston Manor Community Center, and a lifelong area resident, died Sunday, December 2, 2001, at the Health Park Medical Center in Fort Meyers, Fla. She was 60 years of age.
The daughter of the late Luther and Alice Wilbur Kirby, she was born April 11, 1941, in White Sulphur Springs.
She graduated from Sullivan County Community College at the age of 40. A member of the Livingston Manor United Methodist Church, Mrs. Diescher was also the treasurer of CACHE in Liberty, a board member of the Kaplan Foundation and a dynamic leader in community activities.
She is survived by her husband, Victor H. Diescher Jr., at home; a daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Daryl Debetta of Rock Hill; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Victor H. III and Tammy Diescher, Michael and Tracy Diescher and Mark Diescher, all of Livingston Manor; four grandchildren; a sister, Janine Matthews of Livingston Manor; a niece and a nephew.
There will be no visitation.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Joseph L. Adrian of Damascus, Pa., a retired aeronautical engineer with Curtis-Wright Corporation in Caldwell, N.J., and a 28-year area resident, died unexpectedly at his home on Thursday, November 29, 2001. He was 84 years of age.
The son of the late Francis and Maria Koch Adrian, he was born February 14, 1917, in Pleasantville.
Mr. Adrian was a graduate of Notre Dame University and was a member of St. John's Parish in Honesdale, Pa.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Janet Marie Ullmann, at home; two sons, Terence Adrian of New York City and Gregory Adrian of Denver, Colo.; a daughter, Elizabeth Hennessey of Denver, Colo.; a sister, Margaret Bahl of Peekskill; and three grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Lt. Joseph Adrian.
A Memorial Mass was offered Friday at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church in Rileyville.
Burial of the cremains was made in the parish cemetery.

Herta Marsik of Monticello, a retired self-employed dressmaker and a longtime area resident, died Saturday, December 8, 2001, at the Walnut Mountain Care Center in Liberty. She was 81 years of age.
The daughter of the late Johannes and Anna Elizabeth Pernau Hecht, she was born July 22, 1920, in Germany.
She is survived by her husband, Danny Marsik, at home; three sisters, Gerda Gravenstein of Houston, Tex., Gisela Feilitz and Anni Segeth, both of Wittenberge, Germany; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Ewald Hecht and Hans Hecht, and a sister, Ilse Rometa.
There will be no visitation.
Cremation was made at the Cedar Hill Crematory in Middle Hope.
