MONTICELLOFebruary 9, 2001 - Monticello crushed Liberty 66-6 to gain its first Orange County Interscholastic Athletic Association (OCIAA) National Conference win on Tuesday.
The host Panthers gained nine wins the easy way by forfeit.
Liberty coach John Lennon said that several grapplers have quit his team and his 160-lb. veteran Randy Caruso was sick.
Dan Ratner and Ryan Ringi are the only varsity wrestlers Ive got tonight, Lennon said. The rest are all jayvee or first-year wrestlers.
Ringi (145 lbs.) and Anthony Couitt (140 lbs.) accounted for the only Indian wins on Tuesday night.
Monti freshman Kyle Fried pinned Ratner at 3:04 into their 112-lb. match, running his season record to 215.
I know how John feels, Ive been in that boat before, said Monticello coach Ed Kaufmann.
Monticello upped its record to 28 overall and 13 in the conference. Liberty is 04 conference, 012 overall.
