LOCH SHELDRAKE March 20, 2001 Amanda Cox of Sullivan County CC, a 1999 graduate of Livingston Manor CS, was chosen a Region XV second team womens basketball all-star for her play this past season.
In 14 games Cox scored 249 points for a 17.7 team-leading average. It was also the &Mac222;fth best average in Region XV this year,
She also led the Lady Generals with 7.3 assists per game (second in the region) and paced Region XV in both three-point percentage shooting and free throwing shooting (72/90, 80 percent).
Amanda is one of the best players Ive ever coached, man or woman, said SCCC womens hoop coach Dean Smith. Her basketball knowledge and skill level are high. She made her team better. I believe she could go on to play at a higher level, at least Division II.
Smith noted that Cox was an unsel&Mac222;sh player. In our &Mac222;rst game of the year she scored 31 points against Monroe. Then after that she looked to get everyone else involved.
Cox missed last season because of illness and has a year of eligibility left.
I would love to have her back, but I would support whatever she does thats best for her from an academic viewpoint, Smith said.
Cox scored over 1,000 points at Livingston Manor and led the Lady Wildcats to three Section IX titles. She was also a two-time Western Sullivan League MVP.
