A Look at Eldred's
BB Season

By Rob Potter
March 27, 2001:
Season Record:
20-4 overall, 10-2 OCIAA Division IV, league co-champs; Section IX — Class D champs
Starting Lineup:
Guard – Christine Lizzi
Guard – Erin Donnelly
Center – Stacie Blaut
Forward – Jessica Timan
Forward – Loretta Wolff
Season Highlights:
Capturing the Section IX Class D title with a win over Roscoe. “It’s hard to imagine that we made the right decisions in sectionals,” Coach Frank Kean said. “Against DV, we played a specific defense against (Calley) Sander to keep her out of her game. Then we played zone defense against J-Y and versus Roscoe came out in a zone in the first half and switched to a press in the second half. They turned out to be the right decisions. We went from a 10-10 team a year ago to 20 and 4 this season. It was a fantastic roll.”
Biggest Disappointments:
“The lowlight was losing to Jeff (Sullivan West/Jeff-Youngsville) here at home in front of a huge crowd,” Kean said. “We beat them earlier in the (regular) season at Jeff, but we lost at home. That was the biggest disappointment.”
Top Scorers:
Christine Lizzi led the team with 15.5 points per game. She also averaged a triple-double, grabbing a team-best 11 rebounds per contest and dishing out 10 assists per game. Stacie Blaut was the second-leading scorer, averaging nine points per game.
Top Rebounder:
As noted above, it was Lizzi. Blaut, however, pulled down nine boards a game.
Other Thoughts:
Kean praised Donnelly for making “the most dramatic shots.”
“When we were down, she always seemed to hit a two or a three-point shot that put us in the lead or tied it for us,” Kean said.
He also praised Timan for being the team’s “best box-out person” and having a “tough inside game.” Kean also pointed out that Wolff led the team in three-point shooting, connecting on 10 of the long-range shots this season.
MVP/Most Improved Player:
Both awards will be presented at the Eldred Sports Banquet in May.
