REGION June 8, 2001 The state track and field championship meet qualifying meets were held last week at Warwick and Kingston.
To qualify for the state meet, which will be held this weekend at the Mitchel Field Athletic Complex on Long Island, athletes had to finish first in the A, B, or C-D classes, or meet a qualifying standard.
The following county athletes qualified:
boys
3200 Steve Creek, Tri-valley 10:08.2 (1st).
800 Zane Illing, Tri-Valley 2:01.4 (3rd).
Pentathlon Jon Peters, Liberty 2,607 points (2nd).
Shot Put Josh Moore, Fallsburg 48-61&Mac218;4 (2nd).
1600 Relay Tri-Valley (Bill Gorman 52.6 lifetime best, Durk Pearston 53.7, Ryan Milk 54.9 lifetime best, Zane Illing 53.6) 3:35.2 (3rd).
3200 Relay Tri-Valley (Zane Illing 2:05.3, Adrien Hobbs 2:08.7, Steve Creek 2:08.9, Seth Hodge 2:11.9) 8:34.5.
Other notable, but non-qualifying, performances included Durk Pearston of Tri-Valley in the 100 dash (11.4) and Anthony Martinez of Livingston Manor in the long jump (20-5 lifetime best).

400 Hurdles Katy Schlichtman, Monticello 1:04.5 (1st).
2000 Steeplechase Heather Iatauro, Tri-Valley 7:21.6 (1st).
100 Colleen Carey, Tri-Valley 13.5 (3rd).
100 Hurdles Katy Schlichtman, Monticello 15.7 (3rd).
1500 Heather Iatauro, Tri-Valley 4:47.8 (4th).
800 Sandra Scholz, Sullivan West 2:25.0. Scholzs county record-setting time of 2:16.6 at the Class B championship already earned her a spot in the state meet.
400 Relay Tri-Valley (Kelsi Lockhart, Colleen Carey, Jen Gorman, Danielle Poley) 53.9 (3rd). This is the first time Tri-Valley has had a 400 relay in the state meet.
1600 Relay Tri-Valley (Kelsi Lockhart 63.9, Heather Iatauro 62.9, Kristina Mootz 66.2, Jen Gorman 64.3) 4:17.3, season best.
Not qualifying, but turning in lifetime bests for Tri-Valley were Vanessa Houghtaling in the 1500 (5:22.0) and Tracy Taylor in the 2000 steeplechase (8:37.2).
