ROCK HILL June 19, 2001 A total of 2,013 lbs. and $2,900.
Those figures represent the total weight lost and money raised by 106 members of the Sullivan County Weight Watchers group who participated in Saturdays Rock Hill Run and Ramble.
Proudly wearing their Weight Watchers shirts and individual name tags that noted how much weight they had lost, they attacked the course and cheered each other on to the finish.
Ninety percent of them had never done a 5K before, said Beth Weiss, leader of Sullivan County Weight Watchers. We had a few runners, but about ninety percent of them walked. We had members of all ages, sizes and shapes out there.
And Weiss noted, just getting out there and finishing the event was important not necessarily where someone finished in the official race statistics.
Im very proud of our team, Weiss commented. They got out there and felt good about participating. Losing weight is not just about eating the right foods, you need to exercise, too.
Ethel LeClere of Hortonville was one of those 106 Weight Watchers members who spent a part of her Saturday morning transversing the Run and Ramble course.
We had a great time, LeClere said. We might not have finished first, but were all winners.
