CALLICOON July 20, 2001 Fortunately, the second annual Lady Democrat Golf Tournament will have very little in common with The British Open, which started yesterday at Royal Lytham and St. Annes Course in England.
That wasnt the case last year, as The Lady Democrat was played in British Open conditions, complete with whipping wind, hail and temperatures hovering around freezing.
By popular demand, the Lady Democrat was moved from October to July and expanded to a three-day tournament.
The ladies will certainly enjoy the July weekend much better than October, Fred Stabbert, sponsor of the event, said.
Ten teams 20 players in all will compete at the Villa Roma Country Club in Callicoon on the 6,400 yard, par 71 course.
Returning are last years championship team, Jill Kleiner and Judy DuPlessis, who claimed victory with a dramatic birdie on the final hole.
They will again be pressured by South Fallsburg golfer Cindy Perlmutter and her partner, Liberty linkster Susan Altbach.
The complete field, with their Friday tee times, are:
12:30 p.m. - Dianne Zimmerman and Barbara Pitnick playing with Julie Lynch and Judy Bohen
12:39 p.m. - Pat Lawrence and Sue Slutsky playing with Marion Passante and Heni Abrams
12:48 p.m. - Kristen Stoddard and Cynthia Johnston playing with Stacey Benton and Jackie Harris
12:57 p.m. - Anna Niemann and Song Cha Gallo playing with Cindy Perlmutter and Susan Altbach
1:06 p.m. - Margaret Norden and Libby Norden playing with Jill Kleiner and Judy DuPlessis.
