HURLEYVILLE --March 1, 2002 The Catskill Art Society is sponsoring a photography exhibition by the Delaware-Hudson Photographers Society, at the Sullivan County Museum in Hurleyville. The exhibition focuses on the Sullivan Renaissance beautification project initiated by Sullivan First and The Beaverkill Foundation. The project awarded grants to 30 local communities, and inspired a massive countywide beautification effort.
The excitement generated within the award-winning communities was also felt by The Delaware-Hudson Photographers Society, a local group of amateur and professional photographers, who documented the project with the aid of a legislative grant from the new Sullivan County Arts & Heritage Grant program.
This exhibit is a celebration of community spirit and pride. Photographs from 28 local site projects will be displayed along with five photograph/interviews that were conducted with the Renaissance Board members and representatives from the winning communities.
Eleven photographers participated in the project: Laverne Black, Linda Berkowicz, Myrna Charry, Neil Davidson, Amy Erlwein, Ruth Gilmore, Joseph Klimasiewfski, Judy Sternberg, Debra Steingart, Joann Woodruff and Chrystyna Czajkowsky.
The public is invited to the opening reception, Sunday, March 3 from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Beck Gallery of the Sullivan County Museum in Hurleyville.
