SOUTH FALLSBURG December 24, 2002 After an integrity probe by the Sullivan County District Attorneys Office, Fallsburg Police Officer Thomas Decker resigned from the force earlier this month.
He had been given the choice to resign or face the possibility of criminal charges.
The DAs office started the investigation a couple of months ago. The Fallsburg Police were not involved in the investigation.
Sullivan County DA Stephen Lungen would not reveal too many details but stated the investigation involved monetary-related activities that happened several years ago. The incident had nothing to do with Deckers job as a police officer nor was it drug-related.
It is an unfortunate experience when an officer has to be let go under these circumstances, Lungen commented. Because it was an integrity issue, it had to be done.
Fallsburg Police Chief Brent Lawrence offered little comment.
When we lose somebody, it leaves a hole, Lawrence said. Hiring an officer is not an overnight deal. We now have four slots open. With a force of 15, we are hurting.
Decker was unavailable for comment.
