Wilburta Dexter
Homemaker, 93
Wilburta C. Dexter of Narrowsburg, a homemaker and a lifelong area resident, died Wednesday, February 27, 2002, at her home. She was 93 years of age.
The daughter of the late Wilbur and Isabel Bullivant Cornwell, she was born July 18, 1908, in Tylertown. She was the widow of Ralph Dexter who died in May of 2001.
Mrs. Dexter was a member of the Lake Huntington Presbyterian Church and its Ladies Aid Society, the Town of Cochecton Democratic Club, the Women's Club of Cochecton and the Cochecton Preservation Society. She was a graduate of Davis Elkins College in Elkins, W. Va.
She is survived by four children, James Dexter of Herkimer, Barbara and her husband, Clifford Meyer, of Milford, Pa., William and his wife, Jennie, of Lava, and Doris and her husband, Warren Roda, of Otisville; eleven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a granddaughter, Eileen, and a daughter-in-law, Elsie.
Funeral services were held Sunday at the Lake Huntington Presbyterian Church in Lake Huntington with the Rev. Jacob Wielhouwer officiating.
Burial was made in Overlook Cemetery in Damascus, Pa.

Edward Bogdanowitz
Ret. Carpenter, 63
Edward Bogdanowitz of Long Eddy, a retired carpenter for Carpenters Local 65 in Perth Amboy, N.J., and a longtime area resident, died Friday, February 15, 2002, at the Sullivan County Adult Care Center in Liberty. He was 63 years of age.
The son of the late Edward and Elizabeth Nagy Bogdanowitz, he was born August 6, 1938, in Perth Amboy, N.J.
Mr. Bogdanowitz was a 35-year member of Carpenters Local 65 in Perth Amboy, N.J., and a member of Holy Cross Church in Callicoon. He was an avid bow hunter and fly fisherman and had studied for two years at the Manhattan School of Music.
He is survived by his wife, Martha Papanier Bogdanowitz, at home; a brother, Robert Bogdanowitz of Waterbury, Conn.; a sister, Sister Gayle Bogdanowitz of Kenosha, Wisc.; three children, Deborah DePriest of North Carolina, Edward Bogdanowitz Jr. of Perth Amboy, N.J., and Jason Bogdanowitz of Florida; five stepchildren, Denise Brooks of the state of Florida, Michael Toto of New Jersey, Keith Toto of Massachusetts, Georgette Licking of Michigan and Celeste Delpopolo of New Jersey; 10 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; several aunts and uncles, including Mary Rodzinka and her husband, Walter, of Perth Amboy, N.J.; and several cousins.
A Memorial Mass will be offered on Sunday, March 3, at Holy Cross Church in Callicoon with Father Ingatius Smith, OFM, officiating.
Cremation was made at the Twin Tiers Crematory in Endicott.

Lester A. Krantz
Retired Farmer, 94
Lester A. Krantz of Honesdale, Pa., died Thursday, February 28, 2002, at his home, following an illness. He was 94 years of age.
The son of the late Arthur F. and Katherine "Katie" Krantz Krantz, he was born June 7, 1907, in Kenoza Lake. Although his parents had the same last name, they were not related, he being of German descent and she being of Swiss descent.
He graduated from the eighth grade from the Kenoza Lake school in 1923 and worked on the family farm. He also worked part-time for the Sullivan County Highway Department, the Lake Jefferson dam and other odd jobs. Mr. Krantz rented the farm from his father in 1942 and began working it himself. He built a house in 1932-33 on the farm. Notably, he placed stone for the foundation, built a stone wall and put in a lawn.
He bought his first car, a 1928 Chevy 4-door, at age 21 but wrecked it in a head-on crash after having it for three years. His second car was a 1931 Chevy coupe with a rumble seat. Lester always took great pride in his cars.
In September, 1950, the family moved to Honesdale, Pa., where he got a night job sawing unfinished pinewood for furniture at Bailey's Unfinished Furniture Factory. He worked the night shift there for 22 years until he retired at the age of 65 in 1972.
He and his wife, the former Teresa Agnes Kittner, enjoyed dancing, particularly to polka and ballroom music. After he retired, they took numerous bus tours through the years to different areas in the eastern states and Canada. Mr. Krantz always looked forward to gardening in the summer and deer hunting in the fall. However, his garden grew smaller but he continued to garden. He gave up deer hunting in 1997. Reading was his favorite pastime.
He is survived by his wife, Teresa, at home; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert Lester and Diane Krantz of Golden, Colo.; a sister, Marion K. Robisch of Jeffersonville; three grandchildren, Timothy A. Krantz, Aurora, Colo., Tamme L. Cooper of Bloomfield, Colo., and Robin T. Reynolds of Lafayette, Colo. and six great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a sister, Dorothy H. Smith and a great-grandson, Brian S. Cooper.
Funeral services were held at the Hessling Funeral Home in Honesdale, Pa., on Monday with the Rev. Robert Schrom officiating.
Interment was made in the Indian Orchard Cemetery, Texas Township, Pa.

Joel Carnel, 78
Agriculturist/Builder
Joel Carnel of Youngsville, a longtime area resident, died Friday, March 1, 2002, at the Seelig Division of the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris.
Born April 3, 1923, in Astrina, Poland, he was one of the last great warriors of the holocaust and a survivor of Hitler's occupation of Eastern Europe. He was the only member of his family of seven sisters and his parents to have survived Auschwitz and Birkenau. His feats of survival were both extraordinary and legendary. He was kind, noble and extremely devoted and loving to his family.
Mr. Carnel came to America in 1949 and perservered to become an important agriculturist and builder. He was a former president and director of Inter-County Cooperative.
He is survived by his wife, Ethel Carnel, at home; two daughters, Barbara Winston and Rozalyn Weiss; five grandchildren, Gordon, Randall, Stephanie, Devon and Brandon; and a great-grandson, Zachary. He was predeceased by a daughter, Dr. Shirley Carnel who died in 1998.
Graveside services and burial were held Sunday at the Ahavath Israel Cemetery in Liberty with Rabbi Marvin Goldman officiating.
Funeral arrangements were made by the Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home in Monticello.
Mildred N. Williams
Homemaker, 64
Mildred Naomi Williams of Bloomingburg, a homemaker and 18-year area resident, died Saturday, March 2, 2002, at her home. She was 64 years of age.
The daughter of the late John Rice and Mildred Davis, she was born September 9, 1937, in Pittsburgh, Pa.
Mrs. Williams was a member of Faith Evangelical Free Church in Allentown, Pa.
She is survived by her husband, Ted A. Williams, at home; four sons, Todd N. Williams of Poughkeepsie, Kevin M. Williams of Bloomingburg, and Gregory Sokoloski and Tony Sokoloski, both of Frederickburg, Va.; a daughter, Cynthia Nicholson of Muskegon, Mich.; two step-sons, Ted A. Williams Jr. of Catasauqua, Pa., and Garry K. Williams of Birmingham, Ala.; 14 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Services were private.
Cremation was made at the Cedar Hill Crematory in Middle Hope.
Margaret Osmolski

Margaret B. Osmolski of Beach Lake, Pa., a retired supervisor for JCPenney Co. and a 26-year area resident, died Thursday, February 28, 2002, at the Wayne Woodlands Manor in Waymart, Pa. She was 89 years of age.
The daughter of the late Andrew and Elizabeth Bogdani Chervenick, she was born March 29, 1912, in Barnesboro, Pa.
Mrs. Osmolski was a member of the Tusten Senior Citizens in Narrowsburg and a member of St. Bernard's Roman Catholic Church in Beach Lake, Pa.
She is survived by three children, Barbara Morgan of Reston, Va., William Osmolski of Grantsboro, N.C. and Carol D' Alesio of Fort Lee, N.J.; two sisters, Betty Rico and Louise Catapano, both of Long Island; a brother, Emil Chervenick of Beach Lake, Pa.; three grandchildren, Lauren, Francine and Christopher; and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Francis Roman Catholic Church in Narrowsburg on Monday with the Rev. Evan Greco officiating.
Cremation was made at the Twin Tiers Crematory in Endicott.

Leland A. Beach

Leland A. Beach of Bloomingburg, a retired site manager for Jan Peek House Homeless Shelter in Peekskill and a lifelong area resident, died Wednesday, February 27, 2002, at his home. He was 71 years of age.
The son of Leland Beach and Myrtle Wilcox, he was born May 5, 1930, in Middletown.
Mr. Beach was a member of the Bullville United Methodist Church, an associate member of the Community Church of Bloomingburg, a member of the Masonic Lodge of Jeffersonville, a member of the Oddfellows of Cortlandt Manor, a scout master with the Boy Scouts of Jeffersonville and a member of the Bloomingburg Grange.
He is survived by his wife, the Rev. Betty A. Beach, at home; four daughters, Deborah S. Monforte and her husband, Thomas, of Woodbourne, Jean M. Blum and her companion, Robert Kaplan of Cortlandt Manor, Alice F. Gonzalez of Liberty and Penny C. Schrier and her husband, Van, of South Fallsburg; a son, Frank W. Barrett III and his wife, Deborah, of Jeffersonville; 10 grandchildren, Denise, Nita, Andrew, Scott, Rosalinda, Heather, Brittany, Kyle, Tommy and Jessica; and two great-grandsons, Joey and Matthew.
Funeral services were held Saturday at the Bullville United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Dennis Winkleblack, Pastor Kevin Mul-queen and the Rev. Lee Gangaware officiating.
Interment was made in the Wall-kill Cemetery in Phillipsburg.
Pearl J. Traver, 92

Pearl J. Traver of Barryville, an retired employee of the Barryville Post Office and a longtime area resident, died Tuesday, February 26, 2002, at the Middletown Park Manor in Middletown. She was 92 years of age.
The daughter of the late Christopher and Anna Swendsen Jensen, she was born February 14, 1910, in Milanville, Pa. She was the widow of John A. Traver Sr. who died July 6, 1990.
Mrs. Traver was a member of the Barryville United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women, both in Barryville, and River Valley Chapter No. 33, Order of the Eastern Star, in Port Jervis.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Joan M. and Ronald Brown of Godeffroy; and sons and daughters-in-law, John A. Jr. and Louise Traver of Rock Hill and Michael C. and Leona Traver of Eldred; a sister, Florence Nichols of Honesdale, Pa.; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Arthur Jensen.
Services were held Monday at the Barryville United Methodist Church with the Rev. Nancy Vonderhorst officiating.
Burial was made in Montoza Cemetery in Barryville.

Paull E. Norris
Ret. Store Mgr., 86
Paull E. Norris of Monticello and New Port Richey, Fla., died at his winter residence in Florida on March 3, 2002. He was 86 years of age.
The son of the late George W. and Lulu Lynn Norris, he was born January 18, 1917 at Fraser's Settlement in Bethel. He was the widower of Louie Constance "Connie" Mearns Norris who died September 5, 2001.
Mr. Norris was a meat cutter and store manager for Victory Markets in Livingston Manor, Liberty and Monticello, for a total of 42 years.
A World War II veteran of the U.S. Army, he served in the European Theatre of War. He was a past commander of the Bailey-Richman Post No. 9588, Veterans of Foreign Wars, in Monticello, a past president of the Stewart Cemetery Association in Kauneonga Lake and a member of the White Lake Reformed Presbyterian Church (Covenanter) where he served as Deacon for 68 years.
In a family statement, it was said, "Dad was a kind and loving man of conviction, who cared greatly for his family and especially for his grandchildren. He was always a source of strength and guidance and will be greatly missed."
He is survived by a son, Robert D. Norris of Forestburgh; a daughter and son-in-law, Carol P. and Edward J. Furchak Jr. of Monticello; two grandchildren, Jennifer S. Shamah and her husband, Al, of Rock Hill, and Jason Paull Furchak and his fianceé January J. Blaisdell of Clinton, Me.; a nephew, Eugene Norris of Atlanta, Ga.; a niece, Elsie Eltz and her husband, Vernon, of Sherrill; four grand-nieces and two grand-nephews.
Friends may call at the Ramsay's Funeral Home, 55 St. John St., Monticello, on Wednesday, from 2-4 to 7-9 p.m.
A celebration of Paull's life will be held on Thursday at the White Lake Reformed Presbyterian Church, Route 17B and Mattison Rd., White Lake, at 11 a.m.
Burial will be made in the Stewart Cemetery, Horseshoe Lake Rd., Kauneonga Lake.

Ethel M. Fogarty of Roscoe, a homemaker and former 75-year resident of Ferndale, died Monday, March 4, 2002, at her home. She was 95 years of age.
The daughter of the late Ethan and Julia O'Dell Lee, she was born January 7, 1907, in Readburn.
Mrs. Fogarty was a communicant of St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church in Liberty.
She is survived by two sons, and daughters-in-law, Edward and Margarite Fogarty of South Pasadena, Fla., and Thomas and Lynn Fogarty of Monticello; a daughter and son-in-law, Margaret and Roy Gorton of Roscoe; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two cousins; a grand-nephew and several grand-nieces.
Friends may call at the Harris Funeral Home, West Street at Buckley, Liberty, on Wednesday from 10 to 11:30 a.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11:45 a.m. Wednesday at St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church, 264 North Main St., Liberty, with Monsignor Edward Straub officiating.
Burial will be made in St. Peter's Cemetery in Liberty.
