Memorial Service
For Robert Kinne

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Sunday, October 13, 2002, at the Rockland Fire Hall for Robert Kinne. He passed away June 27 in Tennessee close to his wife, Alice, and son Kevin. Those who knew him are invited to join his family in a celebration of his life.
The annual Kinne family reunion will be held afterwards.

Victor H. Gardner
Farmer/Logger, 73

Victor H. Gardner of Hancock, a veal farmer and logger, and an assessor for the Town of Hancock for 25 years, died Monday, September 9, 2002, at his home. He was 73 years of age.
The son of the late Herbert and Mildred Crawson Gardner, he was born April 23, 1929.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Gardner, at home; three daughters, Eileen Hill of Monroe, Me., Karen Gardner of Honesdale, Pa., and Brenda Gardner of Northboro, Mass.; three sons, James Gardner, Bruce Gardner and Eric Gardner, all of Long Eddy; and seven grandchildren, Kelly, Melissa, Ethan and Dustin Gardner, Abigail Hill and Lauren and Jessica Haffner.
Private services were held at the Gardner Family Cemetery with the Rev. Earl Pomeroy of the East Branch Community Church officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Hancock Rescue Squad, Hancock, N.Y. 13783.

Kevin M. Williams
Caretaker, 37

Kevin M. Williams of Bloomingburg, a real estate caretaker and a 20-year area resident, died Tuesday, September 10, 2002, at his home. He was 37 years of age.
The son of Teddy A. Williams and the late Mildred Naomi Rice Williams, he was born August 23, 1965, in Clarion, Pa.
He is survived by his father of Bloomingburg; a brother, Todd N. Williams of Poughkeepsie; four stepbrothers, Gregory Sokolowski and Tony Sokolowski, both of Fredricksburg, Va., Ted A. Williams Jr. of Catasaugua, Pa., and Gary K. Williams of Birmingham, Ala.; a stepsister, Cynthia Nicholson of Muskegon, Mich.; and several nieces and nephews.
Services were private.
Cremation was made at the Cedar Hill Crematory in Middle Hope.

Mary Figueiredo
Homemaker, 97

Mary Figueiredo of Liberty, a homemaker and a 21-year area resident, died Thursday, September 12, 2002, at the Seelig Division of the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. She was 97 years of age.
The daughter of the late Francisco and Mary Fernandes Pedra, she was born November 13, 1904, on Madeira Island, Portugal. She was the widow of John Figueiredo.
She is survived by a son, Larry Chance of Hurleyville; two sisters, Olive Feaster of the state of Florida and Mary Furtado of New Bedford, Mass.; two grandchildren, Nicole and Christopher Chance; and a great-grandson, Nathan Chance.
A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church in Middletown on Sunday.
Burial was made in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Sullivan County Adult Care Center Family Council, P.O. Box 671, Liberty, N.Y. 12754.
Funeral arrangements were made by the Ramsay's Funeral Home in Liberty.

J. William Gager
Ret. Farmer, 82

J. William Gager of Galilee, Pa., Damascus Township, a lifelong area resident, died Monday, September 9, 2002, after an illness. He was 82 years of age.
The son of the late Judson L. and Hazel Miller Gager, he was born June 11, 1920, in Cold Spring, Pa. He was the widower of Mavis White Gager who died in 1995.
Mr. Gager was a member of the Galilee United Methodist Church and Unity Grange, both in Galilee; the Wayne-Pike Pomona Grange and the Pennsylvania State and National Granges. He was also a member of the Damascus Volunteer Ambulance Corps, the Delaware Valley Senior Citizens in Callicoon and an active Red Cross volunteer. For many years, Mr. Gager operated a dairy farm in Galilee and was also employed by the PA Department of Transportation (DOT) and the Upper Delaware Campgrounds and C.E. Mills Chevrolet, both in Callicoon. He was also a self-employed painter and wallpaperer.
He is survived by a son, William J. Gager of Galilee, Pa.; a daughter and son-in-law, Pamela and Walter Long of Galilee, Pa.; a brother, Robert Gager of Binghamton; five grandchildren and their spouses, Tracy and Doug Turner of Honesdale, Pa., Walter and Kim Long, Billy and Christy Gager and Joseph and Jamie Gager, all of Galilee, and Melissa and Bruce Rutledge of Tyler Hill, Pa.; nine great-grandchildren, Doug and Kristopher Turner of Honesdale, Pa., Dakota Long, Samantha Long, Jessie Gager, Zach Gager, Kirsten Gager and Tanner, all of Galilee, and Brie Rutledge of Tyler Hill, Pa.; his special friend, Marguerite Hinaman of Beach Lake, Pa., and several, cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, David and Arthur Gager and two sisters, Alma Hardler and Daisy Gager.
A memorial service was held Sunday at the Damascus United Methodist Church with the Rev. George Gallandorm officiating.
Interment was made in the Hillcrest Cemetery in Galilee, Pa.

Theodore Heins
Ret. Dairyman, 86

Theodore "Ted" Heins of Ferndale, a retired owner of Carrland's Dairy in Ferndale and a 73-year area resident, died Friday, September 13, 2002, at his home. He was 86 years of age.
The son of the late William and Florence Fritshie Heins, he was born October 21, 1915, in Albany.
Mr. Heins was a member of the First Church of Monticello Presbyterian, the Sullivan County Cooperative Extension and the Sullivan County Farm Bureau. He was a World War II veteran of the Army Air Corps.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Grace Carr Heins, at home; a daughter and son-in-law, Alice and Andrew Herzog of Monticello; two brothers, William and Richard Heins, both of Monticello; and two grandchildren, Adam and Jordan Herzog. He was predeceased by three brothers, Alfred, Kenneth and Dr. Carl Heins, MD.
Graveside services and burial were made at the Brookside Cemetery in Harris.
Funeral arrangements were made by the Ramsay's Funeral Home in Liberty.

David Pierce
Real Est. Bkr. 62

David Pierce of Jeffersonville, a real estate broker and a bus driver for the Milton Gaebel Bus Company, died Wednesday, September 11, 2002, at the Seelig Division of the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. He was 62 years of age.
The son of the late Maurice and Marguerite Malkin Pierce, he was born April 7, 1940, in Manhattan.
Mr. Pierce was a member of the Liberty Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons.
He is survived by his wife, Joann Schmidt Pierce, and a son, Daniel M. Pierce, both at home.
Services were private.
Burial was made in the Congregation Ahavath Sholom Cemetery in Jeffersonville.

William DeStefano
Laborer, 51

William M. "Otto" DeStefano of Newburgh, a laborer for Local 17 in Newburgh and a lifelong area resident, died Thursday, September 12, 2002, at his home. He was 51 years of age.
The son of Theresa Hawes DeStefano and the late Dominick DeStefano, he was born August 3, 1951, in Newburgh.
In a family statement, it was said, "Otto was an active member of Local 17 in Newburgh and enjoyed coaching Little League in Wurtsboro and Pop Warner in Newburgh. He was a devoted son and brother as well as a loving husband and father. He loved spending time camping with his family. He also enjoyed coaching his son in Little League and watching his daughter at karate. He will be sadly missed by family and friends."
He is survived by his wife, Patty Ponessi DeStefano, at home; three children, William "Billy" DeStefano Jr. and Jodi E. DeStefano, both at home, and Steven L. DeStefano of New Windsor; a brother, Joseph DeStefano of Marlboro; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial was offered Monday at St. Joseph's Church in Wurtsboro.
Burial was made in Calvary Cemetery.

Edward E. Childs, 87
Ret. Asst. Chief EMS

Edward E. Childs of Loch Sheldrake, a retired assistant chief of EMS in New York City and a longtime area resident, died Saturday, September 14, 2002, at the Hackensack Medical Center in Hackensack, N.J. He was 87 years of age.
The widower of Betty Childs, he was born July 1, 1915, in the Bronx.
He was a World War II veteran of the United States Navy.
Mr. Childs is survived by two sons, Lester Childs and his wife, Barbara, of Brooklyn, and Michael Childs of Staten Island; five grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services and burial were held Sunday at the Hurleyville Synagogue Cemetery in Hurleyville.
Funeral arrangements were made by the Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home in Monticello.

Anita L. Ottolia
Homemaker, 46

Anita Lucia Ottolia of Montgomery, a homemaker and an 11-year area resident, died Wednesday, September 11, 2002, at the Arden Hill Hospital in Goshen. She was 46 years of age.
The daughter of Anita Pacifico Mazzella and the late Silverio Mazzella, she was born April 10, 1956 in the Bronx.
Mrs. Ottolia was a member of the Bread of Life, Assembly of God Church, in Bullville.
She is survived by her mother of Mt. Vernon; her husband, Silvio Ottolia, at home; three daughters, Gina, Lisa and Sara; two sisters, Mary Hochberg of Eugene, Oreg., and Rose Mazzella of Bloomingburg; and four brothers, Silverio Mazzella of Eastchester, Frank Mazzella of Orlando, Fla., Salvatore Mazzella of Mt. Vernon and John Mazzella of Orlando, Fla.
Services were held Saturday at the William Gagan Funeral Home in Pine Bush with Pastor Bert Lloyd officiating.
Cremation was made at the Cedar Hill Crematory in Middle Hope.

Eleanor Strunk, 75
Ret. Owner Jay's Garage

Eleanor Strunk of Narrowsburg, a retired co-owner and bookkeeper for Jay's Garage in Narrowsburg and a 50-year area resident, died Saturday, September 14, 2002, at the Julia Ribaudo Health Care Center in Lake Ariel, Pa. She was 75 years of age.
The daughter of the late John and Emma Ruesch Hinck, she was born February 2, 1927, in Brooklyn. She was the widow of Jay Strunk who died in 1999.
Mrs. Strunk was a member of the Lava Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Herbert and Jan Strunk of Honesdale, Pa., and Russell and Lois Strunk of Huguenot; a brother, Karl Hinck of Sarasota, Fla.; five grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday at the Rasmussen Sons Funeral Home in Narrowsburg with the Rev. Elwood Mather Jr. officiating.
Burial will be made in the Lava Cemetery in Narrowsburg.

Sylvia Friedman
Homemaker, 91

Sylvia Friedman of Monticello, a homemaker and a 53-year area resident, died Friday, September 14, 2002, at the Seelig Division of the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. She was 91 years of age.
The daughter of the late Morrs and Helen Fish, she was born April 17, 1911, in New Rochelle.
Mrs. Friedman was a member of the Jewish Women's International, the Auxiliary of the Catskill Regional Medical Center, a life member of the Sisterhood of Landfield Avenue Synagogue and a life member of Hadassah.
She is survived by her husband, Samuel Friedman, at home; a son, Henry Friedman of Sackett Lake; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at the Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home, 186 Broadway, Monticello, with the Rev. Ben Zion officiating.
Burial will be made in the Landfield Avenue Synagogue Cemetery in Monticello.

Andrew Hamilton
Saddle Maker, 53

Andrew M. Hamilton of Westbrookville, a custom saddle maker and owner of Hamilton's Saddle Shop in Westbrookville and a longtime area resident, died unexpectedly Friday, September 13, 2002, at Marshall's Creek, Pa. He was 53.
The son of Juanita Rosales Hamilton and the late William P. Hamilton, he was born October 18, 1938, in Ranger, Tex.
Mr. Hamilton was a member of the Holy Name Roman Catholic Church in Otisville, a communicant of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Roman Catholic Church in Middletown, a member of the Academy of Western Artists, a corporate member of Working Ranch Cowboys Association, and a member of the Dry Creek Arts Fellowship in Flagstaff, Ariz. He was a corpsman with the United States Navy during the Vietnam War.
He is survived by his wife, Lois Czaikowski Hamilton, at home; a son, Stephen Hamilton of Brooklyn; two daughters, Rachel Hamilton and Amanda Hamilton, both of West Palm Beach, Fla.; his mother of Ranger, Tex.; two brothers, James Hamilton of Ranger, Tex., and Edward Hamilton of Sunnyvale, Calif.; three sisters, Vivian Robichaud of Philadelphia, Pa., Susan Butler of Washington, D.C., and Patsy Davis of Eastland, Tex.; and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Thursday at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Roman Catholic Church in Middletown.
Burial will be made in St. Mary's Cemetery in Port Jervis.
