Beatrice Weiss, 98
Ret. Businesswoman
Beatrice "Bea" S. Weiss of Grahamsville, the retired co-owner and operator of Weiss Motors in Monticello, died Tuesday, December 10, 2002, at the Sullivan County Adult Care Center in Liberty. She was 98 years of age.
The daughter of the late Harvey and Laura Muthig Hill, she was born September 14, 1904, in Woodbourne. She was the widow of Herbert Weiss.
Mrs. Weiss was a member of the Cornell Extension Home Bureau, the Monticello United Methodist Church and Kiamesha Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, in Monticello.
She is survived by two grandchildren, Lauragene Stewart and Herbert Couch, both of Flagstaff, Ariz.; three great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandsons; two step-grandchildren, Cindy Hughes of Slingerlands and Gary Weiss of Phoenix, Ariz.; a step-daughter-in-law, Marie Weiss of Florida; a nephew, Gilbert Weiss of Beach Lake, Pa; a niece and former caregiver, June Schmitz of Woodbourne; her most recent caregivers, a nephew and his wife, Donald and Polly Hill of Grahamsville; and several other nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a daughter, Lora May Richter, and a step-son, Marvin Weiss.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday at the Colonial Memorial Funeral Home, 396 Main St., Woodbourne, with the Rev. Gene Smith and the Rev. Paul Ruter officiating.
Interment will be made in the Rock Ridge Cemetery in Monticello.

Ruth W. Skinner
Ret. Businesswoman, 75
Ruth W. Hyzer Skinner of Liberty, a former resident of Livingston Manor, a lifelong area resident, and the retired co-owner of Skinner's Meter and Regulator Shop in Liberty, died Sunday, December 8, 2002, at the Seelig Division of the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. She was 75 years of age.
The daughter of the late Ralph W. and Sara Ellen Dunn Hyzer, she was born May 15, 1927, in Liberty. She was the widow of Jacob Skinner Jr. who died September 29, 2002, after 55 years of marriage.
Mrs. Skinner had also worked as a bookkeeper. She was a former member of the Liberty Presbyterian Church and a member of the United Methodist Church in Liberty.
She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Carole L. and Frank McCoy and Nancy E. and Charles Gabriel, all of Liberty, and Debra Skinner Fischer and her husband, Martin, of Pulaski; a daughter-in-law, Roni Skinner Evans of Neversink; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, John T. Skinner, and a brother, Roger Hyzer.
Cremation was made at the Cedar Hill Crematory in Middle Hope.
A memorial service will be held at the United Methodist Church, 170 N. Main St., Liberty, on Saturday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Francis Waite officiating.
Burial of the cremains will be made in the Sullivan County Veterans Cemetery in Liberty.
Funeral arrangements were made by the Ramsay's Funeral Home in Liberty.
Michael F. Walsh
Ret. Mechanic, 67
Michael F. "Mickey" Walsh of Wurtsboro Hills, a retired mechanic, co-owner of The Pantry, and a lifelong area resident, died Monday, December 9, 2002, in Middletown. He was 67 years of age.
The son of the late Martin and Mary Burke Walsh, he was born May 31, 1935, in New York City.
Mr. Walsh was a member of the Operating Engineers Union Local 825.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Esther Strausbaugh Walsh, at home; a son, Timothy Walsh of Jersey City, N.J.; a daughter, Tina Walsh Richardson and her husband, Jeffrey of New Orleans, La.; a brother and sister-in-law, Thomas and Frances Walsh of Beverly Hills, Fla.; a sister, Elizabeth Di Rafelle of Tampa, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Eileen Walsh of Hopewell Junction; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held Friday at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home, 111 Sullivan St., Wurtsboro with the Rev. Robert Schwander officiating.
Burial will be made in the Sylvan Cemetery in Wurtsboro.

Vincent Kashuba
Ret. Machinist, 81
Vincent Francis Kashuba of Montrose, Pa., a retired machinist for Bendix Corp. in Montrose, Pa., died Sunday, December 8, 2002, in Montrose, Pa. He was 81 years of age.
The son of the late Joseph and Rose B. Platukas Kashuba, he was born May 31, 1921, in Duryea, Pa.
He is survived by a stepson, Terrence; a daughter and son-in-law, Joann and Johnny Crandall of Monticello; four step-daughters, Kathleen Crandall of Monticello, Patricia Spencer of Athens, Pa., Jacqueline Blake of Elmira and Ardie Mae Berkowitz of Poplar Grove, Ill.; a friend, Doyle Lester of Montrose, Pa.; three sisters, Rosalie Lott of California, Joan Bigg of Johnson City and Mary Brown of Elmira; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Richard.
Cremation was private.
A memorial service was held at the Ramsay's Funeral Home in Monticello on Thursday with the Rev. Thomas Ward officiating.
Kathryn M. Wells
Retired Clerk, 89
Kathryn M. Wells of Liberty, a former resident of Napanoch, died Monday, December 9, 2002, at the Seelig Division of the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. She was 89 years of age.
The daughter of the late Benjamin and Jennie DePew Dunn, she was born August 21, 1913, in Ossining. She was the widow of Edward H. Wells Sr.
Mrs. Wells was employed for many years with Rosenstock Hardware in Ellenville.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Edward H. Jr. and Carolyn Wells of Napanoch; a daughter, Arlene Wells of Farmington, Me.; three sisters, Alta Dunn of Harris, Dorothy Dunn and Olga Shipman; two brothers, Frank Dunn and Benjamin Dunn Jr.; five grandchildren, including, Edward H. Wells III; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by a son, Richard Wells.
Interment will be made in the Pine Bush Cemetery in Kerhonkson.
George Moser Sr.

George E. Moser Sr. of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., the former owner of 211 Liquor Store and a former employee of Rupp Southern Tier Trucking, both in Middletown, died Tuesday, December 3, 2002, at Roper Hospital in Charleston, S.C. He was 84 years of age.
The son of the late Joseph and Amanda Muth Moser, he was born September 9, 1918, in Obernburg. He was the widower of Rita Shane Moser who died after 48 years of marriage.
Mr. Moser was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and had received the Purple Heart.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Moser, at home; a daughter, Elizabeth Botti of Hummelstown, Pa.; two sisters, Frances Laughrey of DelRay Beach, Fla., and Josephine Meyer of Mileses; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and three step-children, Shelley Nelson of Mt. Pleasant, S. C., Walter Krecidlo of Goshen and Mary Joyce Hilaire of Middletown.
A Mass of the Resurrection will be offered at 11 a.m. on Saturday at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church in Middletown.
Burial will be made in the family plot in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Middletown.
Richard F. Wood
Dairy Farmer, 73
Richard F. "Woody" Wood of Middletown, a lifelong area resident, died Tuesday, December 3, 2002, at the Westchester Hospital. He was 73 years of age.
The son of the late Joseph and Caroline Wood, he was born November 28, 1929, in Middletown. He was the widower of Virginia Rose Barker Wood.
Mr. Wood was a member of Webb-Horton Memorial Presbyterian Church in Middletown.
In a family statement, it was said, "He was well known and loved. He loved his dog, Chalupa, very much."
He is survived by his wife, Marie M. Wood of Middletown; three children, Robert Wood of Greenville, Walter Wood and Gloria, both of Middletown, and Vicky of Harris; four step-children, Timothy J. Doolittle III of Cuddebackville, Nora Moshinski of Bloomingburg, Mabel Harris of Middletown and Susan Baggalia of Bloomingburg; two brothers, William Wood of Connecticut and Robert Wood of Highland; and six grandchildren, Meagan, Robert Jr., Heather, Walter Jr., Crystal and Arthur. He was predeceased by two sons, Richard Jr. and Thomas, three brothers, John, James and Frank Wood, and a sister, Margie.
Interment will be made at a later date.

Samantha Owens of South Fallsburg, a homemaker, died Friday, December 6, 2002, at the Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla. She was 46 years of age.
The daughter of Louis Owens and the late Marietta Owens, she was born June 26, 1956, in Faunsdale, Ala.
In a family statement, it was said, "Samantha will be remembered for her unconditional love for her family and friends, her gentle strength, endless giving and her faith in God."
She is survived by her father of Liberty; five daughters, Jacqueline, Lakiesha, Adrienne, Melissa and Tyiesha; three sons, Korey, Darnell and Marcell, all of South Fallsburg; four grandchildren, Marquis, Deron, Quivoni and Samyriah; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Alice and Joseph Threat of Faunsdale, Ala., Ida Bella and Howard Martin of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Mary and Jimmie Lacey of South Fallsburg; a dear friend, John Bickham; five aunts; three uncles; and a host of nieces, cousins and friends.
Friends may call at the Colonial Memorial Funeral Home, 396 Main St., Woodbourne, on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be held at 12 p.m., on Saturday at the First Baptist Church in South Fallsburg with the Rev. Anthony Black officiating.
Interment will be made in the Woodbourne Cemetery in Woodbourne.
Robert Bennett Sr.

Robert Gerard Bennett Sr. of Marlboro, the owner and manager of Bennett's Bar and Grill in Newburgh and a lifelong area resident, died Tuesday, December 10, 2002, at St. Luke's Cornwall Campus Hospital in Cornwall. He was 68 years of age.
The son of the late James Harold and Rose Mehan Bennett, he was born May 23, 1934, in Roseton.
He is survived by his longtime companion, Raffaelina Guerriero, at home; a son, Ted Bennett of Albany; three daughters, June Marie Knapp of Dallas, Tex., Palma Rose Kogan of New Paltz and Cheryl Anne Deyo of Burlingham; two brothers, Lawrence Bennett of Newburgh and John Bennett of New Windsor; three sisters, Rosemary Curley of West Roxbury, Mass., Alice Bowman of Newburgh and Kathleen Wassi of Eldred; seven grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Robert Gerard Bennett Jr. who died October 3, 2001, a brother, James Bennett, and three sisters, Helen Clark, Joan Hutlock and Margaret "Molly" Gucciardo.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday at the Engel Funeral Home, 5319 Route 9W North, Newburgh.
Friends and family will meet at the funeral home at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday and then proceed to Our Lady of Mercy Church in Roseton for a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial.
Burial will be made in St. Mary's Cemetery in Marlboro.

Alice M. Macur of Newburgh, a homemaker and longtime area resident, died Tuesday, December 10, 2002, in Goshen. She was 82 years of age.
The daughter of the late Patrick and Myrtle Reynolds Boyle, she was born July 1, 1920, in Yonkers. She was the widow of Alexander Macur.
Mrs. Macur was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Yonkers City Post No. 1666, Veterans of Foreign Wars.
She is survived by two sons, Alexander Macur Jr. of South Carolina and Raymond Macur of Walden; three daughters, Dolores Stammler of Wurtsboro, Patricia Simchock of Newburgh and Alice Schenck of Bloomingburg; a brother, Joseph Boyle of Long Island; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Frank and Richard "Alan" Boyle.
Services were held Friday at the Millspaugh Funeral Home in Walden with Fr. Joseph D. Sullivan officiating.
Burial was made in Woodlawn Cemetery in New Windsor.

Marie Gray of Roscoe, a homemaker, a licensed practical nurse at the Roscoe Community Nursing Home and a lifelong area resident, died Wednesday, December 11, 2002, at her home. She was 62 years of age.
The daughter of the late William and Pearl Ferguson James, she was born October 20, 1940, in Long Eddy.
She is survived by her husband, Richard S. Gray, at home; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Ronald and Terry Gray of Cape Coral, Fla., and Rick Gray and Neal and Jill Gray, all of Roscoe; a daughter and son-in-law, Mellony and Bill Steele of Marshfield, Mo.; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Nora and Joseph VanDerMark of Port Jervis, Barbara and Robert Duggan of Christmas, Fla., and Mildred Kerns of Port Jervis; a brother, William James of Port Jervis; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Harris Funeral Home, Railroad Ave., Roscoe on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Lucille Freyer officiating.

Clifford Newman Ballagh of Callicoon, a retired salesman and a former Grahamsville resident, died Tuesday, December 10, 2002, in Callicoon. He was 83 years of age.
The son of the late Arthur Benton and Mary Scott Ballagh, he was born December 5, 1919, in New York City. He was the widower of Katherine Lewis Sawyer Ballagh.
Mr. Ballagh was a member of the Grahamsville Fire Department and a member and past chief of the Saddle River (N.J.) Fire Department.
He is survived by his companion, Muriel Krantz of the Beechwoods section of Callicoon; a daughter, Joyce Ballagh Bambach of Andover, N.J.; a sister, Madeline Easton of the state of Florida; three grandchildren, Dane Bambach of Kerersville, N.C ., John McDonald of Acton, Mass., and Lt. Clifford Bambach serving with the U. S. Coast Guard; and three great-grandchildren, Myles, Paige and Annaliese McDonald. He was predeceased by a daughter, Margaret Wilson, and a brother, Weldon Ballagh.
There will be no visitation.
Cremation was made at the Twin Tiers Crematory in Endicott.
Arrangements were made by the Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home in Callicoon.
