ROSCOE May 21, 2002 Aileen Semenetz of Sullivan West shot a 40 to win Fridays Tennanah Lake Girls Golf Invitational.
Semenetz score of 40 was four over par for the front nine at the Tennanah Lake Golf Course.
Fellow Sullivan West golfer Margaret Norden shot a 46 to finish second.
Erin Smith of Liberty was third with a 53 and Shannon Bowers of Roscoe finished fourth with a score of 57.
Others finishing the nine-hole event were Sammie Anderman of Fallsburg, who shot a 59, Amanda Krom of Tri-Valley (62), Keely Hamlin of Liberty (64), Maureen Casey of Livingston Manor (66), Sara Nebzydoski of Sullivan West (72) and Julie Goodman of Liberty (72).
The invitational was the fourth in a series of events this spring for local scholastic girls. The other events were held at Lochmor Golf Course in Loch Sheldrake, Sullivan County Golf & Country Club in Liberty and Grossingers in Liberty.
The series, which began three years ago, gives the girls a chance to spend more time on the links. While many of these girls have joined their schools boys teams to compete in regular season OCIAA matches, they did not participate in the OCIAA tournament.
Area schools may feature separate boys and girls golf teams next spring, however.
The main thing is that the girls are out there and having fun, said Ted Crowley, one of the organizers of the girls invitational events.
