How Manor Did

By Jeanne Sager
LIVINGSTON MANOR — June 14, 2002:

Overall record: 8-10

League record: 6-6 OCIAA Division V

Team leaders: Senior Bridget Ellison and junior Alys Mann paced the Lady Wildcats on the diamond this season.

Season highlight: The team took second place in the Sullivan County Softball Officials Tournament at Tri-Valley at the beginning of the season, said Coach Gail Denman.
Coming close to beating Chapel Field for the top spot in the division was another highlight, Denman noted.
Beating Liberty, a Class C school, was another high point for the Lady Wildcats.
“We also played a lot of (Class) B and C schools this year, and keeping up with them as a D school was important to the girls,” Denman said.

Season lowlight: Losing to the Family School in the regular season was a low point for the Lady Wildcats, Denman said.
The team was missing a few of its key players for that first matchup with the Lady Falcons.

Team awards: Ellison grabbed the team MVP award this season for her performance. Ashley Mann was voted most improved. Denman also handed out two coach’s awards this year, one each to Jennifer Wright and Tegan Kern.

Other comments: Despite the ever-changing weather over the past few months, Denman said her team fared well on the field.
“The kids were very dedicated,” she noted. “They practiced on Sundays, they practiced over Memorial Day weekend.
“They were a great group of kids to work with.”
Denman also noted the work of Gene Smith and Gary Mann, her unofficial assistant coaches.
“I would like to thank them for their tremendous help,” she said.
