MONTICELLO — August 6, 2002 – One of the most grueling races in Sullivan County each year is the Monster Classic.
The course features running uphill and is considered one of the toughest courses on the runners’ calendar. The 2002 Monster Classic 5K and 10K races were held on Sunday
The event saw 205 runners and walkers participate in the 5K and 10K races.
Proceeds from the event will benefit Monticello High School (for a defibrillator) and the Sullivan County S.P.C.A. Sunday’s races raised an estimated $8,300 for the two organizations.
The course started on Fraser Avenue near Burger King. The race continues on the hills surrounding the Concord Monster Golf Course. The finish is at Richardson Avenue by Sommerville Field.
