The Soccer Year
In Review

By Jeanne Sager
LIVINGSTON MANOR – November 1, 2002:

Overall Record: 3-13

League Record: 1-7 OCIAA Division VII

Top Goal Scorer: Senior Arielle Parker led the Lady Wildcats with eight goals this season.

Other Team Leaders: Jen Boyles, Maureen Casey, Tammy Greynolds, Jen Irwin, Morgan Jenner, Brandy Maggio and Jen Wright all worked hard for the team this year. The girls are all seniors and celebrated their last year on the Manor soccer field.

Season Highlight: The team received a scholar athlete mention, and played six games where they were within one goal of their opponents’ score, said Coach Shirlee Davis.
In addition, Davis said, the Lady Wildcats’ season was defined by a 1-0 win over OCIAA Division VII champion S.S. Seward in the team’s last away game of the season.

Other Comments: “For a team comprised of so many juniors and seniors, this team should have been extremely competitive,” Davis said. “Unfortunately, (we faced) circumstances beyond our control, including injuries – last year’s leading scorers Tegan Kern and Amy Krupp were out with knee injuries.
“The Lady ’Cats lost our junior starting goalkeeper halfway through the season with an eye injury,” Davis continued, “(and) junior midfielder Mary Mills for half the season with a knee injury and numerous other illnesses and injuries plus our home field renovation, kept the Wildcats fighting for survival on the road.”
But, Davis noted, the team was a pleasure to coach.
“The team played with intensity and desire for 80 minutes, and that’s all that matters to this coach this season,” she said. “I wish my seniors a happy and healthy year, and I will miss them very much.”
