FAMILY SCHOOL GOALIE John Fisher makes a save as Ellenville’s David Siegel runs towards the net in a game this past season.

A Look Back

HANCOCK – November 15, 2002:

The Family School

Overall record: 13-6

League record: 4-2 OCIAA Division V

Team leaders: Senior Dave Coombe scored a team-high 22 goals this season. Fellow senior Dan Witcher registered 11 goals and led the Falcons with 19 assists. Junior Colin McClees added 11 goals.
Goalie John Fisher recorded over 80 saves on the season.

Season highlight: Surprisingly, Coach Bill Musgrove noted that a defeat to S.S. Seward was the 2002 highlight for the Falcons.
“Early in the season, we played an excellent match against Seward, a team we had never played before,” Musgrove explained. “We came back to tie the match at 3-3 and they scored with a minute left to win it, 4-3. We played a great match and Seward deserves credit as they are an excellent team.”

Season lowlight: “The lowlight was losing to Webutuck in the sectionals,” said Musgrove, referring to the Falcons’ 2-1 loss on October 29 in a Section IX Class D semifinal match. “We came out very flat and just didn’t play very well. Give Webutuck credit for the win, they played well and we didn’t.”

Other comments: “Overall, we had a great season,” said Musgrove, who just completed his sixth season as the Family School Soccer Coach. “We went 13 and 6 and did not have any players returning from the previous season. To have 17 new guys and finish with 13 wins is very exciting. I really enjoyed this season.”
