Eleanor Newman
Real Est. Broker

Eleanor "Elli" Newman of Monticello, a homemaker and a licensed real estate broker, died Monday, May 5, 2003, at her home.
The daughter of the late Manny and Rachel Saltz Weiner, she had lived in the Bronx, Cedarhurst and Bayside.
She also held numerous positions in and around Sullivan County over the past 37 years in the fields of education and health care.
Some of her volunteer activities included Hadassah where she had served as president, the Monticello PTA, Landfield Avenue Synagogue Sisterhood, the Women's Auxiliary of Community General Hospital, Chevra Kadisha of Sullivan County and Emunah of America.
Mrs. Newman is survived by her husband, Marvin Newman of Monticello; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jeff and Janine Newman of Washington, D.C., and Steven and Carolyn Newman of Plantation, Fla.; a daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Jordan Alter of Fairlawn, N.J.; eight grandchildren, Daniel, Sean, Michelle, Josh, Yoni, Freddi, Paul and Avi; a brother, Harvey Weiner and his wife, Gail, of Dallas, Tex.; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Marjorie and Gary Abelson of Buffalo and Deborah and Evan Ross of Colts Neck, N.J.; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and an extremely large extended family of friends.
Services were held Tuesday at the Landfield Avenue Synagogue in Monticello.
Burial was made in the Landfield Avenue Synagogue Cemetery in Monticello.
Shiva will be observed at the homes of the Newman children and the home of Mrs. Newman's siblings.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Landfield Avenue Synagogue General Fund, Monticello, N.Y. 12701 or to the Hebrew Day School of Sullivan and Ulster Counties, Kiamesha Lake, N.Y. 12751.
Funeral arrangements were made by the Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home in Monticello.

Tadeusz Stefanik
Textile Co. Retiree, 79

Tadeusz Stefanik of Glen Spey, a 15-year area resident and retired from Interstate Textile in Passaic, N.J., died Sunday, May 4, 2003, at his home. He was 79 years of age.
The son of the late Frank and Helen Pienkos Stefanik, he was born July 3, 1923, in Poland.
He is survived by three daughters, Ursula Hasbrook of Locust Grove, Ga., Madaline Strupp of Newton, N.J., and Yolanda Hennigan of Oak Ridge, N.J; six grandchildren, Joseph Stefanik, Dana Bruce, Alison Hennigan, Brian Hennigan, Teresa Donohue and Ashley Donohue; and a great-grandson, Robert Michael Bruce.
Services were held Wednesday at the Gray-Parker Funeral Home in Port Jervis, followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Joseph's R.C. Church in Passaic, N.J.
Burial was made in St. Nicholas Cemetery in Lodi, N.J.

Memorial Service
for Pauline M. Scott

An Eastern Star Service, followed by a memorial service, will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday at the Lew Beach United Methodist Church for former Livingston Manor resident Pauline M. Scott of Florida, N.Y., who died March 26, 2003. The Rev. Kathryn Liozeaux will officiate at the services.
Burial of the cremains will follow in the Lew Beach Cemetery.
Arrangements were made by the Herbert C. Bryant Funeral Home in Livingston Manor.

Committal Service
for Emerson L. Bouton

A committal service for Emerson L. Bouton of Livingston Manor, who died April 12, 2003, will be held at noon on Monday at the Fairlawn Cemetery in Prattsville with the Rev. Stewart Pohlman officiating.
Arrangements were made by the Herbert C. Bryant Funeral Home in Livingston Manor.

Terry J. Kinch
Bookkeeper, 56

Terry J. Kinch of Monticello, a lifelong area resident and a bookkeeper for Seimax Gas Corp. in Monticello, died at her home after a long illness. She was 56 years of age.
The daughter of John Durkin and the late Marion A. Cross Durkin, she was born March 5, 1947, in Monticello.
Mrs. Kinch was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Monticello.
She is survived by her father of Monticello; her husband, George Kinch, at home; two step-sons, Ezra George Kinch Jr. and his wife, Madeline, of Lava, and Donald Edward Kinch of Hortonville; a step-daughter, Debora Kowalski and her husband, John, of Allentown, Pa.; a brother, John Durkin of San Francisco, Calif.; four step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Richard Durkin.
A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday at St. John's Episcopal Church in Monticello with the Rev. Ninon Hutchinson officiating.
Cremation was made at the Cedar Hill Crematory in Middle Hope.
Burial of the cremains will be made in St. John Street Cemetery in Monticello.
Memorial contributions may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, 733 Third Ave., New York, N.Y. 10017.
Funeral arrangements were made by the Ramsay's Funeral Home in Monticello.

Gerald Moore
Bartender, 69

Gerald Moore of Kenoza Lake, a bartender and former machinist, died Saturday, May 3, 2003, at the Achieve Rehab and Nursing Facility in Liberty. He was 69 years of age.
The son of the late James D. and Madeline LaVenture Moore, he was born March 8, 1934, in Syracuse.
He is survived by three brothers, James M. Moore of North Brunswick, N.J., Patrick Terrance Moore of North Kingstown, R.I., and John D. Moore of St. Augustine, Fla.; three sisters, Madeline Haecherl of Solana Beach, Calif., Patricia Eileen Lee of Fredericks, Md., and Kathleen Agnes Moore of Encinitas, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial was offered on Thursday at St. Joseph's Church in Mongaup Valley.
Cremation was made at the Cedar Hill Crematory in Middle Hope.
Funeral arrangements were made by the Ramsay's Funeral Home in Kauneonga Lake.

Vincent Nuccio, 72

Vincent Nuccio of Juno Beach, Fla., a former resident of Wurtsboro, died Tuesday, April 29, 2003, after a brief illness. He was 72 years of age.
The widower of Carolyn Nuccio, to whom he was married for 37 years, he was a charter member and active in the Mamakating Moose Club in Wurtsboro.
He is survived by a son, and daughter-in-law, Harry and Eileen Nuccio of Arkansas; three grandchildren, Catherine Beauchamp of Arkansas, Elizabeth Nuccio of Middletown and Christopher Nuccio of Watertown, presently on duty with the U. S. Army in Kirkuk, Iraq; and two great-grandchildren in Arkansas.
Arrangements were made in Florida.

Ethel Z. Hooker
Homemaker, 93

Ethel Z. Hooker of Bel Air, Md., a homemaker, died Sunday, May 4, 2003 in Bel Air. She was 93 years of age.
The daughter of the late John and Alice Elizabeth Chambers Gayle, she was born in the Republic of Panama on July 28, 1909. She was the widow of Ivan Burton Hooker who died January 30, 1995.
Mrs. Hooker is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Carlos M. and Julieta Hooker of Miami, Fla.; three daughters and sons-in-law, Anna M. and Carlos R. Allen of Columbus, Ga., Barbara M. and Raymond Stephens of Bel Air, Md., and Estel M. and Herbert Amin of Columbus, Ga.; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, David and Joseph Gayle, and a sister, Louise Lowe.
Friends may call at the Ramsay's Funeral Home, 275 S. Main St., Liberty, on Friday from noon until 2 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. at the funeral home on Friday.
Burial will be made in the Liberty Cemetery.

Louis Greenwald, 76

Louis Greenwald of Woodridge, a 20-year area resident and a participant at Sullivan ARC until 2002, died Tuesday, May 6, 2003, at the Orange County Infirmary. He was 76 years of age.
The son of the late Alexander and Rose Klinghoffer, he was born April 12, 1927, in Manhattan.
In a family statement, it was said, "Louis will be missed by all those who knew him."
Mr. Greenwald is survived by a brother, William Greenwald of Spring Valley; and a host of friends at the Sullivan ARC.
Graveside services and burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday at the Ahavath Israel Cemetery in Liberty with Rabbi Marvin Goldman officiating,

Claude Hanson Sr.
Ret. Truck Dr., 88

Claude L. Hanson Sr. of Damascus, Pa., a retired truck driver for Cochecton Mills and a 57-year area resident, died Wednesday, May 7, 2003, at his home. He was 88 years of age.
The son of the late Gust and Edith Clark Hanson, he was born January 15, 1915, in Niagara Falls.
Mr. Hanson served in the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) and then worked for Carborundum Co. in Niagara Falls. He moved to Cochecton in 1946 and worked for the Erie Railroad before becoming a truck driver and mill worker for Cochecton Mills, retiring in 1979.
He was a member of the Grace Baptist Church in Callicoon and was a former Cubmaster and Little League coach in Damascus, Pa.
Mr. Hanson is survived by his wife of 66 years, Rosalind Kerr Hanson, at home; six children and their spouses, Claude Jr. and Merilyn Hanson of Burlington, Vt., Joanne and Jim Whitmore of Kirkwood, Fred and Madalyn Hanson of Damascus, Pa., Linda and Stan Lawrence of Damascus, John and Evelyn Hanson of Honesdale, Pa., and Robert and Pat Hanson of Beach Lake, Pa; two sisters, Isabel Deas and Beverly Porter, both of Niagara Falls; a brother, Gust Hanson of Arlington Heights, Ill.; 27 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a grandson, Travis Lawrence, a brother, Francis, and by four sisters, Helen, Lucille, Paulie and Jean.
Friends may call at the Rasmussen Sons Funeral Home in Narrowsburg on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
Services will be held at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday with the Rev. Lauren Hertzler officiating.
Burial will be made in the Overlook Cemetery in Damascus, Pa.

Gene Rolland Jr.
Carpenter, 37

Gene H. Rolland Jr. of Kansas City, Mo., a self-employed carpenter and former resident of Livingston Manor, died Tuesday, May 6, 2003, as the result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Missouri. He was 37 years of age.
The son of Larry and Edna May Banks, he was born February 26, 1966, in Livingston Manor.
He is survived by his parents of Livingston Manor; a son, Douglas Rolland, and two daughters, Charlotte Rolland and Jessica Rolland, all of Missouri; four brothers, Richard Banks, Charles Banks and his wife, Kandy, Larry Banks Jr. and his wife, Patricia, and Lester Banks, a sister and brother-in-law, Sherry and René Mandez, all of Livingston Manor; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Herbert C. Bryant Funeral Home, 29 Pearl St., Livingston Manor, on Monday from 4 to 6 p.m.
Services will be held at 6 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Gerald Wondra officiating.
Private cremation will be made at the Cedar Hill Crematory in Middle Hope.

Maureen Escoffrey
Nursing Assistant, 46

Maureen Dawn Escoffrey of Monticello, a nursing assistant at the Seelig Division of the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris, died Saturday, May 3, 2003, at the medical center. She was 46 years of age.
The daughter of Nathaniel and Inez Stephens Henry, she was born September 21, 1956, in Jamaica.
She is survived by her parents of Jamaica; her husband, Michael Escoffrey; a daughter, Sophia Palmer McIntyre and her husband, Vincent, of the Bronx; a grandson, Dante Stark; a sister, Janet Henry of Boston, Mass.; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Friends may call at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home, 195 Broadway, Monticello, on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
Services will be held at 10 a.m on Saturday at the New Salem Baptist Church, 62 Waverly Ave., Monticello.
Burial will be made in the Rock Ridge Cemetery in Monticello.
