Clarence Wood
Mason, 79
Clarence "Woody" Wood of Hurleyville, a lifelong area resident and a self-employed mason, died Tuesday, May 13, 2003, at his home, following a long illness. He was 79 years of age.
The son of the late Ernest T. and Mabel Jones Wood, he was born June 1, 1923, in Ellenville.
A U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II, he was a life member of the Clarence Hoyt Post #9217, Veterans of Foreign Wars, in Liberty and a life member of the Disabled American Veterans. Mr. Wood was an active community member and belonged to the Loch Sheldrake Fire Department for 63 years. He was also a former chief of fire police for the Loch Sheldrake Fire Department and a member of the Liberty Elks Lodge #1545. He was a former member of the Loch Sheldrake-Hurleyville Rod & Gun Club and a member of the Hudson Valley Volunteer Firemen's Association.
He is survived by his wife of 55 1/2 years, Viola Bonnell Wood, at home; two sons, Ernest W. "Billy" Wood and his wife, Annette, and Jeffrey Wood, all of Hurleyville; and two grandchildren, Denise Pope Donaldson and Teresa Stahl. He was predeceased by a daughter, Alinda Wood Pope.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday at the Ramsay's Funeral Home, 275 S. Main St., Liberty.
Burial will be made in the Sullivan County Veterans Cemetery in Liberty.

for Fred Mapledoram
Graveside services and burial of Fred Mapledoram, who died March 3, 2003, will be held on Friday, May 16, at 3 p.m. at the Westbrookville Cemetery, Route 209, in Westbrookville. The Rev. Gene Smith will officiate.
Arrangements were made by the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home of Monticello.
Thomas D. Griffith
Damascus Supervisor, 84
Thomas D. Griffith of Tyler Hill, Pa., the Town of Damascus Supervisor for over 40 years, died Monday, May 12, 2003, at the Wayne Memorial Hospital in Honesdale, Pa. He was 84 years of age.
The son of the late Dwight and Elizabeth Gillis Griffith, he was born October 8, 1918, in Rileyville, Pa. He was the widower of Lucille Stephens Griffith who died in 2001.
Mr. Griffith was a member of the Hillside Cemetery Association and the Damascus Township Hunting Club.
He is survived by a son, Thomas Griffith of Tyler Hill, Pa. a step-daughter, Margaret Crum of Beach Lake, Pa.; two grandchildren, Steven Crum and Colleen Brink; five great-grandchildren, Nathan, Erin and Jeffrey Brink and Gage and Ally Jean Crum.
Services were held Thursday at the Rasmussen Sons Funeral Home in Narrowsburg with the Rev. Stuart Hunt officiating.
Burial was made in Overlook Cemetery in Damascus, Pa.

Gladys S.F. Green
Ret. Gen. Switch, 86
Gladys Sharp Bookstaver Green of Middletown, a retiree of General Switch Co. and a lifelong area resident, died Sunday, May 11, 2003, at the Middletown Park Manor Rehabilitation Center. She was 86 years of age.
The daughter of the late Wesley and Anna B. Pough Bookstaver, she was born November 26, 1916, in Collabar, Town of Crawford.
Mrs. Green was a member of the Bullville United Methodist Church and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers AFL-CIO Local 1968.
In a family statement, it was said, "She will always be remembered and sadly missed by her loved ones and her devoted 'family' at Park Manor. Her love of life enabled her to fight a courageous battle until the end."
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Veronica A. and Fred Davies of Sullivan County; two sons and daughters-in-law, Allan W. and Sharon Green of Endwell and Larry J. and Francine Green of Pine Bush; two grandsons, Gustav Green of Raleigh, N.C., and Ross E. Green of Pine Bush; two nieces, BettyAnn Friedrichs of Burlingham and Helen Crotty of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; a nephew, Joseph Green of Ellenton, Fla.; several grand-nieces, grand-nephews and cousins; and a longtime friend, Laura Porubek of Bullville. She was predeceased by two brothers, Raymond Bookstaver and Frank Bookstaver, and two sisters, Ruth Young and Hazel Bookstaver.
A memorial service was held Thursday evening at the DeWitt Funeral Home in Pine Bush.
Burial was private.

Dominick Marsalis Corley, the two-day-old son of Jason and Moniquka Diaz-Corley of Woodridge, died Thursday, May 8, 2003, at the Horton Campus of the Orange Regional Medical Center in Middletown.
In a family statement, it was said, "God lent to us for just a day our precious baby boy; but the love he gave us for him will last a life time." Matthew 19:14.
He is survived by his parents and three brothers, Kenneth Corley, Jason Corley Jr. and Russell Corley, all at home; his maternal grandparents, Sylvia Kohloa and Miguel Diaz; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and loved ones.
Services were held Wednesday at the Colonial Memorial Funeral Home in Woodbourne.
Saundra Charnow
Ret. Clerk, 67
Saundra Charnow of Homestead, Fla., a retired clerk for the Woodbourne Correctional Facility and for Sullivan County Community College, died Tuesday, May 13, 2003, at the Homestead Hospital in Fla. She was 67 years of age.
The daughter of the late David and Gussie Matenson Bockman, she was born February 19, 1936, in Monticello.
She is survived by her husband, Gary Charnow, at home; a son and daughter-in-law, Jody and Ruth Charnow of Cherry Hill, N.J; two daughters and sons-in-law, Wendy and Frank Francees of Homestead, Fla., and Dana and Jim Schmidt of Hurleyville; two brothers, Albee Bockman and his wife, Gina, of Hurleyville, and Sheldon Bockman of Atlanta, Ga.; a sister, Flora Bockman of Liberty; four grandchildren, Michael, Gillian, Amber and Alexandra; and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Friday at the Joseph N. Garlick, Funeral Home, 186 Broadway, Monticello, with Rabbi Irving Goodman officiating.
Burial will be made in the Workman Circle #281 Cemetery in Glen Wild.
Marian T. Gadziala
Ret. SCCC Librarian, 84
Marian T. Gadziala of Liberty, a longtime Sullivan County Community College librarian who retired in 1986, and a 60-year area resident, died Wednesday, May 14, 2003, at the Horton Campus of the Orange Regional Medical Center in Middletown. She was 84 years of age.
The daughter of the late Alvin J. and Harriette K. Eaton Toles, she was born April 22, 1919, in Cobleskill. She was the widow of Matthew Gadziala who died in 1985.
Mrs. Gadziala was a communicant of St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church in Liberty, the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, the Rosary Society and a member of the Parish Council. She was also a lector and an eucharistic minister. Mrs. Gadziala was a member of the Heritage Circle and Alumni Association of the University of Albany and a member of the Interfaith Council of Liberty.
She is survived by two sons, Matthew A. Gadziala and his wife, Melody, of Atlanta, Ga., and Dr. Thomas S. Gadziala of Denver, Colo.; two daughters, Susan E. Gadziala of Liberty and Anne Gadziala of Youngsville; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Joseph A. Gadziala, who died in 1998.
Friends may call at the Harris Funeral Home, West Street at Buckley, Liberty, on Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. on Monday at St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church, 264 North Main St., Liberty, with Monsignor Edward Straub and Father Timothy Gadziala officiating.
Burial will be made in St. Peter's Cemetery in Liberty.
