Lillian Phillips
Community Vol., 87

Lillian Phillips of White Lake died on Wednesday, August 27, 2003 at the home of her son in Florida, NY. She was 87.
Born in Bethel on October 22, 1915, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Cora Edwards Brucher. She was the widow of Arba Phillips, who passed away on August 18, 1982.
Mrs. Phillips was a housekeeper for various families in the Sullivan County area, and was a long-time member of the Order of Eastern Star and the White Lake Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary.
She is survived by her son, Paul, and his wife, Polly of Florida, NY; one brother, Elmer “Shorty” Brucher and his wife, Jean, of Bethel; one sister-in-law, Anne Brucher of Bethel; three grandchildren, Debbie Phillips of Montgomery, Lisa Phillips of Walden and Frank Phillips of Poughkeepsie.
She is also survived by three nephews, Lloyd and Roger Brucher of Cochecton and Richard Brucher of Maine; and one niece, Jean Smith, and husband, Harold, of Jeffersonville.
She was predeceased by three brothers, Walter, Lloyd and Ernie Brucher.
Friends may call at Ramsay’s Funeral Home, Inc., 3534 Route 55, Kauneonga Lake, on Friday, August 29 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday, August 30 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Paul Milz officiating. Burial will be in the family plot at Evergreen Cemetery in Bethel.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties, 800 Stony Brook Court, Newburgh, NY 12550.

Elizabeth Kooistra
Retired Beautician, 87

Elizabeth W. Kooistra of Jeffersonville, a retired beautician, died on Wednesday, August 27, 2003 at home. She was 87 years of age.
The daughter of the late Willard and Mabel Christensen Wright, she was born on March 24, 1916 in Homestead, Okla. She was married to the late Joseph Kooistra, and a member of the Jeffersonville Methodist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Katherine Schaefer and her husband, Dennis, of Jeffersonville; Viva Davidson and her husband, Erich, of Quakertown, Pa.; one son, Joseph Kooistra and his wife, Jan, of Honesdale, Pa.; two brothers, Wayne Wright of San Jose, Calif. and Darrell Moody of Gainsville, Texas; one stepsister, Rosalie Burney of New Orleans; one stepbrother, Harvey Vann of Denison, Texas; and two granddaughters, Lindsay Kooistra and Katherine Davidson.
Friends may call at the Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home in Jeffersonville on Saturday, August 30 from 10 to 11 a.m.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 30 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Eileen Brey will officiate.
Burial will be in the Jeffersonville Methodist Cemetery.

Matthew Rescigno
Auto Technician, 73

Matthew F. Rescigno, a 50-year area resident and an autobody technician for Freuhauf Trailers in New York City, died on Wed., Aug. 27, 2003 in Monticello.
The son of the late Mateo and Julia Cavagnaro Rescigno, he was born on Dec. 5, 1929 in New York City.
Mr. Rescigno was a member of St. Joseph's Church in Wurtsboro and a member of Make and Do Hunting Club in Rock Hill.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Dorothy Molini-Leung at home; two daughters, Dorothy Ann "Dee" Rescigno of New York City and Dr. Diane Rescigno O.D. of Lake Katrine; two sisters, Florence Aluce of Clifton, NJ and Marie Beneducci of Washingtonville, NY and one special granddaughter, Ariane Rescigno.
Friends may call at Ramsay's Funeral Home, 55 St. John St., on Friday, Aug. 29 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Aug. 30, at St. Joseph's Church in Wurtsboro at 10 a.m. Rev. Peter Madori will officiate.
Cremation will take place at Cedar Hill Crematory in Middle Hope at the convenience of the family.

Edith Coon, 77
Homemaker

Edith Coon, a longtime resident of Liberty and a homemaker, died on Thursday, Aug. 28, 2003 in Leland, North Carolina. She was 77.
The daughter of the late Stanley and Amelia Hart, she was born on Oct. 23, 1925 in New York.
Survivors include a son, Robert Harris of Liberty, three daughters, Gloria Grigsby and husband Luther of Nickelsville, VA, Arvilla Coon of Woodbourne and Sylvia Beach of Leland, NC; 15 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Coon was predeceased by her husband, Jessi Coon in 1979.
Friends may call at Ramsay's Funeral Home, 275 S. Main St., Liberty, on Saturday, Aug. 30, from 7-9 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Sunday, Aug. 31, at 1 p.m. Burial will be in Claryville Cemetery, Claryville, NY.
