Richard A. Collins
Ret. Mechanic, 82

Richard A. Collins of Milanville, Pa., a mechanic for Roche's Garage in Callicoon for 40 years and a lifelong area resident, died Friday, October 10, 2003, at the Wayne Memorial Hospital in Honesdale, Pa. He was 82 years of age.
The son of the late Raymond and Estella Nobel Collins, he was born May 6, 1921, in Carbondale, Pa.
A World War II veteran of the U.S. Army, he was a member of the Boyds Mills Hunting Club.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Louise Anna Koferl Collins, at home; two daughters, Estella Olsen and Susannah Austin and her husband, John, all of Milanville, Pa.; three grandchildren, Richard, John and Charles Austin; three great-grandchildren, Melissa, Michael and Wolfgang Austin; and two nephews, Raymond Backo and Ronald Collins. He was predeceased by a sister, Charlotte Backo, and a brother, Willard Collins.
Services were private.
Cremation was made at the Twin Tiers Crematory in Endicott.

Abe Jaffe, 94
Ret. Poultry Farmer

Abe Jaffe of Glen Wild, a retired poultry farmer and a lifelong area resident, died Saturday, October 11, 2003, at his home. He was 94 years of age.
The son of the late Simon and Rebecca Jaffe, who immigrated to Glen Wild from Lithuania in 1904, he was born February 3, 1909 in Glen Wild.
Mr. Jaffe served for many years as a board member and officer of Inter-County Farmers Cooperative, Associated Mutual Fire Insurance Cooperatives and the Cooperative Federal Credit Union, all in Woodridge. He was a longtime president of Congregation Anshei Glen Wild, of which his father was a founding member.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Sadie Bakst Jaffe, at home; a son and daughter-in-law, Bernard Jaffe and Faun Bank of Tamworth, Ontario; a daughter and son-in-law, Naomi Jaffe and Clint Auglin of Troy; four grandsons, Lucas, Leigh and Max Bank-Jaffe and Avalon Auglin-Jaffe; and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. He was predeceased by a brother David Jaffe, who died in December of 2002, and a sister, Sadie Jaffe Novogrodsky, who died in 1995.
Funeral services were held Monday at the Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home in Monticello.
Burial was made in Congregation Anshei Glen Wild Cemetery in Glen Wild.
Shiva was observed at the Jaffe home following the funeral.
Memorial donations of blood may be made to the American Red Cross of Sullivan County.

Daniel Gertz
Waiter, 41

Daniel Gertz of Rock Hill, a waiter at the Homowack Lodge and at Pizza the Rock in Rock Hill and an employee at Leisure Time Ice in Kiamesha Lake, died suddenly on Thursday, October 9, 2003, in Rock Hill. He was 41 years of age.
The son of the late Harry and Harriet Dolman Gertz, he was born May 1, 1962, in Brooklyn.
He is survived by his mother at home; a brother, Marc Gertz of Carteret, N.J.; a brother-in-law, William Burmeister of New Rochelle; and a niece, Kelly. He was predeceased by a brother, Larry Gertz, and a sister, Gail Burmeister.
Graveside services and burial were held Monday at Temple Sholom Cemetery in Monticello with Rabbi Irwin Tanenbaum officiating.
Funeral arrangements were made by the Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home in Monticello.

Joseph E. Foster
Carpenter, 57

Joseph E. Foster of Harris, a carpenter and a longtime area resident, died Wednesday, October 8, 2003, at the Arden Hill Campus of the Orange Regional Medical Center in Goshen. He was 57 years of age.
The son of the late Ellsworth and Elizabeth Hinsberger Foster, he was born October 14, 1945, in Rockville Center.
Mr. Foster lived at the Center for Discovery and worked at a very happy time in his life doing carpentry work.
In a statement from the Center for Discovery, it was said, "He will be greatly missed."
He is survived by his family in the Otis Armstrong House and the extended family throughout the Center for Discovery.
Services were held Friday at the Harris Funeral Home in Liberty with the Rev. Timothy Wiggins officiating.
Burial was made in the New Paltz Rural Cemetery on Saturday.

Rodney Kaufmann
Owned Svc. Ctr., 77

Rodney A. "Bub" Kaufmann of Montgomery, owner of Kaufmann's Service Center in Montgomery for 50 years, died Sunday, October 12, 2003, in Middletown. He was 77 years of age.
The son of the late Ralph and Mildred Cundy Kaufmann, he was born November 3, 1925, in Brooklyn.
A World War II veteran of the Army Air Corps, he attained the rank of 2nd Lieutenant.
Mr. Kaufmann was the first police chief in the Village of Montgomery and was a life member of the Montgomery Fire Department Hook and Ladder Co. He was a member of the American Legion, Wallkill Lodge #627, Free and Accepted Masons; Tall Cedars of Lebanon and the Sportsmen's Club of Wanaksink Lake.
In a family statement, it was said, "Bub was known and loved by many in the community of which he gave service to for many years. To those who were close to him there was only one way – Bub's way! He will be dearly missed by his family and friends."
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Ann Schmitt Kaufmann, at home; three sons and daughters-in-law, Gregory S. and Stephanie Kaufmann of Montgomery, Brian and Robin Kaufmann, of Wallkill and Bradley P. and Ruth Kaufman of Montgomery; three daughters and sons-in-law, Susan I. and Paul Wilson of Montgomery, Karen A. and Tod DuBois of Rock Hill and Mary Beth and Frank Turner of Montgomery; nine grandchildren, Melissa, Greg, Marie, Mark, Cory, Brendon, Darren, Taylor and Kayla; and three cousins, Phillip Jr. and Blanche M. Smith of Michigan, and Roger Tompkins of the state of Florida. He was predeceased by two brothers, Ralph and Donald Kaufmann.
Friends may call at the Overhiser Funeral Home, 78 Union St., Montgomery on Tuesday from 1-3 and 5-9 p.m.
Firematic services will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Paul Milz officiating.
Burial will be made in St. Mary's Cemetery in Montgomery.

Patricia Kennedy
Homemaker, 57

Patricia Dale Kennedy of Bloomingburg, a homemaker and a longtime area resident, died Saturday, October 11, 2003, at her home. She was 57 years of age.
The daughter of the late Adison Al and Pearl Rose Kennedy, she was born November 27, 1945, in Mt. Ivy.
She is survived by her companion, Frank Masci, at home; three grandchildren, Adele Luisi of Brooklyn, Patricia Rittacco of Middletown and Jesse Viotti of Middletown; three grandchildren, Andrew, Justin and Autumn; a brother, John Kennedy of the state of Florida; two sisters, Kathleen Kennedy and Lora Baisley, both of Rockland County; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and a very special friend, Kristine Felter of Middletown.
Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday at the Ralston-Lippincott-Hasbrouck-Ingrassia Funeral Home, 72 West Main St., Middletown.
Burial will be made in the Bloomingburg Cemetery.

Florence Hubert
Homemaker, 84

Florence Allgeier Hubert of Sykesville, Md., a former longtime resident of Jeffersonville, died October 8, 2003, at the Northwestern Hospital in Randallstown, Md. She was 84 years of age.
The daughter of the late Fred and Elizabeth McSweeney Allgeier, she was born January 21, 1919, in the Bronx.
Mrs. Hubert was a member of St. George's Church in Jeffersonville.
She is survived by her husband, Kenneth Hubert, at home; a daughter and son-in-law, Maureen and Henry Stiene of Mongaup Valley; a son and daughter-in-law, Timothy and Karen Hubert of Sykesville, Md.; a daughter-in-law, Janet Hubert of Jeffersonville; eight grandchildren, Melissa Stiene, Matthew Stiene, Joshua Hubert, Jody Hubert, Jeremy Hubert, Jeffrey Hill, John Bruning and Jerry Bruning; four great-grandchildren, Sullivan, Melanie, Quinn and Lilly Hubert; and a sister, Theresa Esselmann of Kenoza Lake. She was predeceased by a son, Fred A. Hubert.
A Funeral Mass was offered Monday at St. George's Church in Jeffersonville with Father Paul Osborne, O.F.M., officiating.
Burial was made in Calvary Cemetery in Youngsville

Anne C. Thuman
Ret. Pattern Maker, 86

Anne C. Thuman of Wurtsboro, a longtime resident of Wurtsboro and a retired pattern maker for Butterick and Vogue in New York City, died Thursday, October 9, 2003, at the home of her friend, Joann MacKinnon in Bloomingburg. She was 86 years of age.
The daughter of the late Lukas and Anna Gosakda Styczynski, she was born October 5, 1917, in Brooklyn. She was the widow of Richard E. "Dick" Thuman who died January 24, 2003.
Mrs. Thuman was a member of Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Bloomingburg; the Mamakating Senior Citizens, Westbrookville Senior Citizens, Mamakating Democratic Club, Mountain Lake Camps Association, Basha Kill Association and a longtime member of the Mamakating Lioness Club.
She is survived by a sister, Lillian Schneider and her husband, Hank, of Greenville, S.C; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by a brother, Henry Styczynski.
A Funeral Mass was offered Monday at Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Bloomingburg with Fr. Raymond Bagdonis, O. Carm., officiating.
Burial was made in the Bloomingburg Rural Cemetery.

Josephine T. Lagoda
Homemaker, 78

Josephine T. Lagoda of Fosterdale, a homemaker and a lifelong area resident, died Sunday, October 12, 2003, at her home. She was 78 years of age.
The daughter of the late Frederick Otto and Josephine Hauser Edelmann, she was born June 30, 1925, in Fosterdale. She was the widow of William Lagoda.
Mrs. Lagoda is survived by a daughter, Bonnie Crum of Cochecton; three sons and two daughters-in-law, William and Helen Lagoda of Jeffersonville, Barry and Bonnie Lagoda of Bethel and Steven Lagoda of Cochecton; three grandchildren, Lisa Starkweather, Michael Lagoda and Heidi Crum; three great-grandchildren, Joshua, Luke and Abigail Starkweather; a sister, Florence Clouse of Haines City, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Norma Edelmann of Troy; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Fred Edelmann.
Friends may call at the Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home in Jeffersonville on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home with Pastor Kristen Anderson officiating.
Burial will be made in the Fosterdale Cemetery
