Eugene J. Paparella
Contractor/Farmer, 71

Eugene J. Paparella of Beach Lake, Pa., a 59-year area resident and an excavating contractor turned dairy farmer, died Friday, October 24, 2003, at the Wayne Memorial Hospital in Honesdale, Pa. He was 71 years of age.
The son of the late John C. and Lucia Castranova Paparella, he was born November 22, 1931, in Brooklyn.
In 1957 he took over his father's Crystal Soda distribution business. Most recently, he was proprietor of Paparella's Auto Service, having retired in 2002.
Mr. Paparella was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving from 1951 to 1955. He was a member of the Tusten Lions Club in Narrowsburg.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Igoe Paparella, at home; nine children, Christopher and his wife, Heleen Paparella, of Rye, Patrick and his wife, Lisa Paparella of Fort Pierce, Fla., Andrew and his wife, Tracy, of Newton, N.J., Richard and his wife, Lisa, of Beach Lake, Pa., Gregory Paparella of Milanville, Pa., Jean Marie and her husband, Louis Giordano, of Brooklyn, Terence Paparella of Jacksonville, Fla., Nora and her husband, Christopher Phillips of Scranton, Pa., and Alicia and her husband, Anthony Macro, of Syracuse; three brothers, John Paparella of Fort Pierce, Fla., Vincent Paparella of Lumberton, N.C., and Edward Paparella of Milanville, Pa.; 17 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Richard Paparella.
A Mass of Christian Burial was offered Monday at St. Bernard's Roman Catholic Church in Beach Lake, Pa., with the Rev. Joseph Kutch officiating.
Burial was made in the Milanville (Pa.) Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements were made by the Rasmussen Sons Funeral Home in Narrowsburg.

Harry Tresnak
Ret. Draftsman, 86

Harry Tresnak, a 40-year resident of Masten Lake and a retired draftsman for Pfizer Inc. in New York City, died Wednesday, October 22, 2003, at the Horton Campus of the Orange Regional Medical Center in Middletown. He was 86 years of age.
The son of the late August and Rosa Ruth Tresnak, he was born November 13, 1916, in New York City.
A graduate of Industrial High School of New York City, he served his country during World War II with the U.S. Navy where he attained the rank of Chief Petty Officer. Most of his military career was spent as a swimming instructor at Bainbridge, Md.
Mr. Tresnak was a member of the Masonic Guiding Angel Lodge #565, F.& A.M., in New York City and a member of the Lenox Hill Neighborhood Swimming Association.
In a family statement, it was said, "Harry cherished his beloved wife. She was the light of his life and their happiest times were spent just being together."
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mary "Mickey" Crep Tresnak, at home; several nieces and nephews, including Vincent Klein, who without his help, Mary would have been lost throughout this process. He was predeceased by a sister, Matilda, and a brother, George.
A Funeral Mass was offered on Friday at St. Joseph's Church in Wurtsboro with the Rev. Peter Madori officiating.
Burial was made, with military honors, in the Sullivan County Veterans Cemetery in Liberty.

Vivian R. Widmer
Ret. Receptionist

Vivian R. Widmer of Ellenville, a lifelong area resident and a retired receptionist at the Ellenville Medical Group in Ellenville, died Wednesday, October 22, 2003, at her home.
The daughter of the late Melvin and Beatrice Veronese Rode, she was born in Greenfield Park.
She was a former clerk at the Sullivan County Community College Bookstore in Loch Sheldrake and a former bookkeeper for Miller and Levine Pharmacy in Ellenville.
Mrs. Widmer was a member of St. John's Memorial Episcopal Church and a Sunday School teacher at the church.
She is survived by her husband, Edward Widmer, at home; a daughter and son-in-law, Denise and Chummy Dolan of Napanoch; two grandsons, Brandon and Errol Dolan, both of Napanoch; a sister, Beatrice Raskin of Chicago, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Edward Widmer, and a sister, Viola Goldsmith.
Graveside services and burial were held Monday at the Fantinekill Cemetery in Ellenville with the Rev. Jeff Golliher officiating.

Rita S. Buck
Ret. Tel Super, 76

Rita S. Buck, a 16-year resident of Seven Lakes, N.C., formerly of Syracuse, a former employee of the New York Telephone Company and the Rochester Telephone Co. in Brockport where she was a supervisor, died Wednesday, October 22, 2003. She was 76 years of age.
Born in Livingston Manor, she was the daughter of the late Jason and Elsie Sherwood.
Mrs. Buck was an avid golfer and was active in several bridge clubs in Seven Lakes, N.C.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Paul Buck; two sons, Mark S. Buck of Houston, Tex., and Craig P. Buck of Baldwinsville; a daughter, Nancy Denise Fatti of Skaneateles; and eight grandchildren.
A Memorial Mass was offered at Sacred Heart Church in Seven Lakes, N.C. on Monday with Fr. William L. Pitts as celebrant.

Edith Gabrielson
Homemaker, 96

Edith Gabrielson of Swan Lake, a homemaker and a lifelong Sullivan County resident, died Sunday, October 26, 2003, at the Roscoe Community Nursing Home. She was 96 years of age.
The daughter of the late William and Chellie McCrea Norris, she was born July 26, 1907, in Briscoe, one of seven children. She was the widow of Harry Edward Gabrielson.
Mrs. Gabrielson was a member of the White Sulphur Springs Senior Citizens and the Jeffersonville Senior Citizens.
In a family statement, it was said, "She will be remembered for her enjoyment of flowers, birds, gardening, ice fishing and snowmobiling, attending White Sulphur Springs Senior Citizen's meetings and trips; but mostly for her love of family."
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Agnes and Gerry Clark of Delmar; two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Ann Gabrielson and Richard "Wimpy" and Ethel Gabrielson, all of Liberty; eight grandchildren and their spouses, Judy and Greg Aidala, Linda and Glenn Griffin, Laurie and Eric Olson, Lisa and Brian Phelps, Terry and Joseph Lurie, Eric and Michelle Gabrielson, Christine Gabrielson and Dana Gabrielson; 13 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Margaret Norris Peters of Briscoe; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Ramsay's Funeral Home, 275 S. Main St., Liberty on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday at 10 a.m.
Burial will be made in the Old Liberty Cemetery in Liberty.

Molly Slavin, 94
Ret. Businesswoman

Molly Slavin of Goshen, the retired owner of Slavin's Bungalows in Spring Glen and a former resident of Ellenville and Deerfield Beach, Fla., as well, died Friday, October 24, 2003, at Elant in Goshen. She was 94 years of age.
The daughter of the late Hadassah and Chaim Berkowitz, she was born March 30, 1909, in Satmar, Romania. She was the widow of Irving Slavin who died in December of 1985.
Coming to the United States in 1928, she was a life member of the Ellenville Chapter of Hadassah, B'nai B'rith Women, the Spring Glen Synagogue and Congregation of Anshe Tzaydik of Ellenville.
She is survived by three daughters, Dorothy Shapiro of Liberty, Betty and her husband, Richard Deutsch, of Delray Beach, Fla., and Harriet and Gunther Goldsmith of Middletown; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Graveside services and burial were held Sunday at the Congregation Anshe Tzaydik Cemetery in Wawarsing with Rabbi Moshe Frank officiating.
Shiva will be observed at the home of Dr. and Mrs. Gunther Goldsmith in Middletown.

Gladys Sharoff
Homemaker, 84

Gladys Sharoff of West Palm Beach, Fla., a former longtime resident of Monticello, died Saturday, October 25, 2003, at the New York Hospital Center of Queens. She was 84 years of age.
The daughter of the late Sandor and Anna Gross, she was born October 29, 1918, in New York City. She was the widow of Raymond Sharoff who died in 1993.
Mrs. Sharoff is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Lillian Sharoff of Forest Hills; two grandchildren, Daniel and Jessica; a sister, Bella Haft of New York City; and several nieces and nephews.
Services were held Sunday at the Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home in Monticello.
Burial was made in the Workman Circle Branch #610 Cemetery in Monticello.

Ellen L. Geiser
Ret. RN, 65

Ellen Louise Geiser of Hortonville, a retired 37-year registered nurse and a lifelong area resident, died Saturday, October 25, 2003, at the Seelig Division of the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. She was 65 years of age.
The daughter of the late Christopher and Charlotte Francis Geiser, she was born October 10, 1938, in Liberty.
Miss Geiser was a member of the First Grace Lutheran Church in Jeffersonville; Revonah-Lincoln Chapter #443, Order of the Eastern Star, in Liberty; and the Hortonville H-Bs of the Sullivan County Cooperative Extension.
She is survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Carol and Donald Adrian of Liberty; two nieces and their husbands, Jennifer and Michael Fallot of Hockessin, Del., and Lisa and Tom Davies of Youngsville; two grand-nephews, Thomas and Matthew Davis; and a grand-niece, Cara Lynn Davies. She was predeceased by a nephew, Donald C. Adrian Jr.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home in Callicoon with the Rev. Kristen Anderson officiating.
Burial will be made in the Hortonville Cemetery.

Hildegard Eggers
Ret. Cosmetologist, 74

Hildegard Marie Eggers of Middletown, a retired cosmetologist with Bay Drugs in Middletown, died Friday, October 24, 2003, at the Horton Campus of the Orange Regional Medical Center in Middletown. She was 74 years of age.
The daughter of the late Hans and Anna Huber, she was born August 9, 1929, in Munich, Germany. She was the widow of George Eggers.
Mrs. Eggers was a communicant of Grace Episcopal Church in Middletown.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Kenneth Liebler Jr. of Middletown; four grandchildren, Denise and her husband, Tom Eltz, Lyle Wilson and Walter Herrmann, all of Middletown, and Michael Wilson and his wife, Jill, of Bloomingburg. She was predeceased by a son, George C. Eggers.
Following private family burial rites, cremation was made at the Oxford Hills Crematory in Chester.

Blanche Kitchen
Homemaker, 76

Blanche Kitchen of Grahamsville, a homemaker and a 19-year resident of Grahamsville, formerly of Newburgh, died Thursday, October 23, 2003, at the Skilled Nursing Unit of the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. She was 76 years of age.
The daughter of the late Thomas and Eva Kalitynska Lichwa, she was born March 22, 1927, in Wheeling, W. Va.
Mrs. Kitchen was a member of the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Woodbourne and St. Francis Roman Catholic Church in Newburgh.
She is survived by three daughters, Margaret E. Hotchkin of Grahamsville, Veronica Germann and her husband, William, of Howes Cave, and Roxann Foster of York, Pa.; three sons and daughters-in-law, Paul J. and Vina Kitchen of Abilene, Tex., John G. III and Pixie Kitchen of Newburgh and Robert J. and Sarah Kitchen of Bowling Green, Kty.; two sisters, Stephanie Loth of Wierton, W. Va., and Joann Knope of Wheeling, W. Va.; 16 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 37 nieces and nephews; and a close family friend, Rubin Jancko.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday, November 8, at 9 a.m. at The Church of the Immaculate Conception in Woodbourne with Father John Lynch officiating.
Private interment will be made in St. Francis Cemetery in Newburgh.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Colonial Memorial Funeral Home in Woodbourne.

Joan Robisch
Ret. Admin. Asst., 70

Joan Robisch of Beach Lake, Pa., a retired administrative assistant for First Jersey Bank in Newark, N.J., and a longtime area resident, died Monday, October 27, 2003, at her home. She was 70 years of age.
The daughter of the late Russell and Hilda Sutliff Smith, she was born June 3, 1933, in Honesdale, Pa.
She is survived by her husband, James Robisch, at home; two daughters, Wendy Adams of Callicoon Center and Wanda Weigelt of Smallwood; a son, Arthur Dirie of Saugerties; a sister, Patricia Stalker of Binghamton; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by two sisters, Ruth Sedlacek and Sandra Eldred.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday at the Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home in Callicoon.
Burial of the cremains will be made in the Hortonville Cemetery following the service.

Elizabeth F. Oakley
Ret. Production Clerk, 87

Elizabeth F. Oakley of White Sulphur Springs, a retired production clerk for Bethlehem Steel Co. and a 14-year area resident, died Sunday, October 26, 2003, at the Seelig Division of the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. She was 87 years of age.
The daughter of the late Robert C. and Helen Martin Chrismer, she was born December 25, 1915, in Bethlehem, Pa.
She was a graduate of Bethlehem Catholic School and a member of St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church in Liberty.
Mrs. Oakley is survived by a daughter, Colette M. Oakley of Monticello; two sisters, including Rose C. Sostak of White Sulphur Springs; two brothers; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Harris Funeral Home, West St. at Buckley, Liberty, on Thursday from 9 to 10:15 a.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday at St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church, North Main Street in Liberty, with Msgr. Matthew Foley officiating.
Burial will be made in Holy Savior Cemetery in Bethlehem, Pa.
