Irving Blonstein
Ret. ARC Wkr., 76
Irving Blonstein of Monticello, a retired worker at Sullivan ARC Workshop and a resident since 1981, died Tuesday, November 11, 2003, at the Seelig Division of the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. He was 76 years of age.
The son of the late Joe and Ida Weinhause Blonstein, he was born January 24, 1927, in Brooklyn.
In a family statement, it was said, "Irving will be missed by all who knew and loved him. He will be remembered for his meticulous dressing habits and his love for bandannas and western movies."
Mr. Blonstein is survived by a sister, Gertrude Katz of West Haverstraw; and a niece, Rita Shenkman. He was predeceased by two brothers, David and Murray Blonstein.
Services were held Wednesday at the Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home in Monticello with Rabbi Irving Goodman officiating.
Burial was made in the Ahavath Israel Synagogue Cemetery in Liberty.
Julia M. Zaitz
Ret. Teacher, 65
Julia M. Zaitz of Sebring, Fa., a former resident of Jeffersonville and a retired teacher for the Delaware Valley Job Corps Center in Callicoon, died Tuesday, October 21, 2003, at the Tampa General Hospital. She was 65 years of age.
The daughter of the late Edward and Dorothy Enners Smith, she was born October 23, 1937, in Brooklyn.
Mrs. Zaitz had volunteered at the Jeffersonville Library and was a parent/teacher advocate at the Jeffersonville-Youngsville School.
In a family statement, it was said, "She was a member of a retirement community in Sebring where she joined many groups, had many friends and will be greatly missed."
She is survived by a daughter, Dorothy Zaitz of the state of Florida; a son, Henry Zaitz of New Jersey; five sisters, Liz Caggiano of Naples, Fla., Dorothy Byrum of Sebring, Fla., Janice Smith of Queens, Alice Smith of Richmond Hill and Mary Thomashefsky of Pennsylvania; two brothers, Richard Smith of Callicoon Center and Ernest Smith of Long Island.
Harold E. Schmidt
Ret. MR Guard, 99
Harold E. Schmidt of Liberty, a lifelong area resident and a retired security guard at the Monticello Raceway, died Wednesday, November 12, 2003, at the Broadlawn Nursing Home in Amityville. He was 99 years of age.
The son of the late Edmund A. and Agnes J. Peters Schmidt, he was born September 22, 1904, in North Branch.
He was a member of the Livingston Manor Senior Citizens and the Lew Beach Fire Department.
He is survived by his wife, Winifred M. Ferrell Schmidt, at home; a son and daughter-in-law, John and Hazel Schmidt of White Sulphur Springs; a daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn and Luther Eldridge of Massachusetts; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, Gordon Schmidt, and a sister, Ethel Wahl.
Friends may call at the Ramsay's Funeral Home, 275 S. Main St., Liberty, on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in North Branch with the Rev. Kris Anderson officiating.
Burial will be made in the Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church Cemetery in North Branch.

Dora Schult
Homemaker, 94
Dora Schult of Narrowsburg, a homemaker and a 60-year area resident, died Monday, November 10, 2003, at the Ellen Memorial Health Care Center in Honesdale, Pa. She was 94 years of age.
The daughter of the late Tonges and Mera Schult Frey, she was born February 5, 1909, in Germany. She was the widow of Richard Schult who died in 1999.
She came to the United States at the age of 16 and married her husband in 1932. They operated a candy and ice cream store in Jersey City before moving to the Narrowsburg area in 1943.
Mrs. Shult was a member of the Lava Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, and St. Paul's Lutheran Church and the Tusten Senior Citizens, both in Narrowsburg.
She is survived by a son, Robert, and; his wife, Helen of Cockeysville, Pa.; a grandson, Karl of Lutherville, Md.; two great-grandchildren, Jessica and Robert; and four nieces.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 22, at 11 a.m. at the Rasmussen Sons Funeral Home in Narrowsburg with the Rev. Phyllis Haynes officiating.
Cremation was made at the Twin Tiers Crematory in Endicott.
Private burial of the cremains will be made in the Glen Cove Cemetery in Narrowsburg.

Eleonore I. Henke
Nutrition Aide, 71
Eleonore I. Henke of Grahamsville, a 33-year area resident, a nutrition aide at the Cornell Cooperative Extension, co-owner of the Blue Hill Lodge in Claryville and a former employee of Chase Manhattan Bank, died Sunday, November 9, 2003, at the Seelig Division of the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. She was 71 years of age.
The daughter of the late Emil and Marie Dietz Giller, she was born April 24, 1932, in Germany.
Mrs. Henke is survived by her husband, Gerhard B. Henke, at home; two daughters and their spouses, Evelyn R. Skidmore and Shirley Currey, both of Grahamsville; two granddaughters; three grandsons; a sister, and two brothers, all in Germany; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a daughter, Connie, and a sister.
Graveside services and burial were held Wednesday at the Grahamsville Rural Cemetery with the Rev. Dave McCarthy officiating.

Tulio A. Martinez, 72
Tulio A. Martinez of Monticello died Tuesday, November 11, 2003, at his home. He was 72 years of age.
The son of the late Marco T. Martinez and Georgina Camacho, he was born October 27, 1931, in Colombia.
He was a member of St. Peter's Church in Monticello.
Mr. Martinez is survived by his wife, Maria A. Martinez, at home; six children, Jonathan Martinez, at home, Marco Tulio Martinez, Pilar and Ligia Marcela, all of Colombia, and Cezar Martinez and Fernando Martinez, both of Miami, Fla.; a brother, Rafael M. Martinez and his family of New York City; three sisters and their families, Yolanda Leiva of Colombia, Gloria E. Betancour of New York City and Dora L. Trevino of Palm Coast, Fla.; eight grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Mass was offered Thursday at St. Peter's Church, Broadway and Liberty St., Monticello, with the Rev. Robert Ginel officiating.
Cremation was made at the Cedar Hill Crematory in Middle Hope.
Funeral arrangements were made by the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home in Monticello.

Ret. Caregiver, 86
Helene A. Treichel of Swan Lake, a 20-year area resident and a retired caregiver, died at her home on Sunday, November 9, 2003. She was 86 years of age
The daughter of the late August and Maria Tucke Ruth, she was born May 21, 1917, in Germany.
Mrs. Treichel was a member of Kingdom Hall Jehovah's Witness in Liberty.
In a family statement, it was said, "Helene made a lasting impression on everyone she met. She loved to take care of other people and she will be missed."
She is survived by a daughter, Karin Loubal-Bennet and her husband, Terry, of Swan Lake; and several dear friends.
Cremation was made at the Cedar Hill Crematory in Middle Hope.
A memorial service will be held at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness, 7 M.T. Morris Rd., Liberty, on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.

Kathleen M. Heddy of Monticello, a home health aide and a lifelong area resident, died November 11, 2003, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern. She was 42 years of age.
The daughter of William H. Heddy and Anne White, she was born August 7, 1961, in Suffern.
She is survived by her father and Gladys Smith of Monticello; her mother and stepfather, Edward White of Toms River, N.J.; six siblings, William J. Heddy of Virginia, James P. Heddy of New Windsor, Paula Pagano of Westchester, Robert K. White of Seaside Heights, N.J., Billie-Jo Svehla of Monticello and Bobbi-Jean Reiset of Bloomingburg; three nieces and three nephews.

Ida Burtis Beatty of Monroe and Houston, Tex., and a retired licensed real estate salesman, died Tuesday, November 11, 2003, in Houston, Tex. She was 92 years of age.
The daughter of the late Maxwell and Lena Burtis, she was born July 29, 1911, in Rock Hill. She was the widow of Everett W. Beatty Sr.
Mrs. Beatty was an active member of the Monroe community for many years. She was an avid bridge player with the Ree Tyres Group in Houston, Tex.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Everett E. Jr. and Deborah Beatty; a daughter and son-in-law, Diane B. and Raymond McGhee; nine grandchildren, Heather McGhee Gopel and her husband, Kenneth, Janet Beatty, Martin R. McGhee, Kathy Beatty Sherlock and her husband, Steve, Shannon Beatty Andolina and her husband, John, Deborah Beatty, Michelle Beatty, Michael Burtis Beatty and Lauren Beatty; three great-grandchildren, Claire and Jack Everett Andolina and Sammy Sherlock; and a grandnephew, SFC Gordon R. Lindley. She was predeceased by a sister, Thelma Burtis Kennedy.

Madeline M. McKeown, a 30-year area resident of Middletown and a homemaker, died Tuesday, November 11, 2003, at the Arden Hill Campus of the Orange Regional Medical Center in Goshen. She was 66 years of age.
The daughter of the late George and Margaret Alliger Caprano, she was born February 14, 1937, in the Bronx.
Mrs. McKeown was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Middletown.
She is survived by her husband, Joseph L. McKeown, at home; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Jean and Art Hoogenboone of Brooklyn, Ellen M. and Jack Miller of Bloomingburg, Denise Ann and Sean Scherman of Warwick and Joanne S. McKeown of Bloomingburg; two sons and daughters-in-law, Joseph G. and Pamela McKeown of Middletown and Christopher J. and Maria McKeown of Kapolei, Hawaii; 12 grandchildren; two sisters, Caroline Caprano of Middletown and Georgieanna Maguire and her husband, Jerry, of Middletown; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Margaret Aversano.
A Funeral Mass will be offered at 10 a.m. on Friday at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Euclid Avenue Ext., Middletown, with the Rev. Roberto Perez, O. Carm. officiating.
Interment will be made in the Orange County Veterans Cemetery in Goshen.
Edward Pines Sr.

Edward Pines Sr. of Yulan, a retired bus driver for the Minisink School District and a lifelong area resident, died Saturday, November 8, 2003, at the Seelig Division of the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. He was 71 years of age.
The son of Edward Joseph and Elizabeth Gibbs Pines, he was born October 14, 1932, in Middletown. He was the widower of Emily Watch Pines.
Mr. Pines is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Janet Pines of Middletown; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Edward Pines Jr.
Services were held Tuesday at the Ralston-Lippincott-Hasbrouck-Ingrassia Funeral Home in Middletown.
Burial was private.
Percy L. Grant, 78
Percy L. Grant of Monticello died Friday, November 7, 2003, at the Seelig Division of the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. He was 78 years of age.
The son of the late Mirtella Fennell, he was born September 9, 1925, in St. James, Jamaica, West Indies.
He was a member of the Bethlehem Temple Church in Monticello.
Mr. Grant is survived by his wife, Jenese Alberta Ferguson Grant, at home; 17 children, Winston, Estelleta, Ludlow, Trevor, Delroy, Doreen, Sonia, Anthony, Paul, Dave, Rose, Joan, Donna, Richard, Angela, Annette, and Irma; more than 60 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; two brothers; two sisters; his best friend, Alvin Madden; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may call at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home, 195 Broadway, Monticello, on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
Services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at King's Chapel Mission, Spring St., Monticello, with the Rev. Mervin Armstead officiating.

Pauline Skiff of Ellenville, a lifelong area resident, died Sunday, November 9, 2003, at Benedictine Hospital in Kingston. She was 75 years of age.
The daughter of the late Theodore and Rose Matthews Hadden, she was born March 24, 1928, in Middletown.
She is survived by her husband, John Skiff Sr., at home; six sons, John Skiff Jr. and his wife, Laurel, of Ellenville, Michael Skiff and his wife, Joan, of Kerhonkson, Patrick Skiff and his wife, Alisa, of Walker Valley, and Joseph Skiff, Jeffrey Skiff and Ryan Skiff, all of Ellenville; four daughters, Katrina Pritchard and her husband, Paul, of Accord, Susan Walker of Rock Hill, and Paula Skiff and Christine Skiff, both of Ellenville; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Services were held Wednesday at the Loucks Funeral Home in Ellenville with the Rev. Jay Vogelaar officiating.
Cremation was private.
