ELDRED — January 31, 2003 – In the second game of Wednesday night’s doubleheader varsity basketball matchup between Eldred and the Family School Foundation, the visiting Falcons stung the Yellowjackets, 52-44, in a game that could have gone either way.
(The Lady Yellowjackets defeated the Lady Falcons, 45-36, in the first game of the evening.)
Eldred (1-12, 0-5 Division V) played with enough fire and determination to get the cheerleaders and fans stomping in the stands, but the superior ability of the Falcons under the boards and from outside the 3-point line made all the difference in the contest.
The teams battled to a 11-11 tie at the end of the first period. In each of the remaining three quarters, The Family School (6-9, 3-2 Division V) edged the Yellowjackets: 15-11, 12-11 and 14-11.
Family School outshot Eldred at the foul line as well. The Falcons made 12-of-16 free throws, while the Yellowjackets converted just five-of-11 at the line.
A trio of Falcons racked up double digits: Lukus Droseros (a game-high 26 points, including five 3-point shots), Miles Farkus (10) and Ryan McCarthy (10).
For Eldred, Tim Gutman led the way with 12 points, all of which came from beyond the arc as he made four 3-point shots in the contest.
