OLD WESTBURY — March 11, 2003 – The Fallsburg Comets’ remarkable basketball season continues.
Fallsburg turned up its defensive intensity to defeat East Rockaway 65-47 Friday night in the state quarterfinals at SUNY Old Westbury.
With the win, Fallsburg (17-5) moves on to the state final four – a first for the school. The Comets face Section VI Champion Buffalo City Honors (20-4) at 7 p.m. Friday night in a Class C semifinal in Glens Falls.
Fallsburg blocked eight shots and held East Rockaway (12-10) to 28 percent shooting en route to its 18-point victory.
Senior guard Jon Hinton led the Comet offense, scoring a game-high 25 points. He knocked down five 3-point shots on the evening.
Fellow senior Lionel White added 18 points for Fallsburg.
Mike Kienke led East Rockaway with 14 points.
