Monticello Girls
Have a Hard Time

By Ted Waddell
April 4, 2003 – Monticello

Overall Record: 3-17

League Record: 0-10 OCIAA Division II

Top Performers: Junior Deirdre Smith was the top scorer for the Lady Panthers. She averaged 21.3 points per game. She also averaged 9.5 rebounds, 2.5 steals and two assists per game.
Smith also reached the 1,000-point milestone this season. She now has a total of 1,151 in her three-year varsity career.
She was also named to the Section IX girls’ basketball all-star team, the members of which were chosen by the section coaches.
Season Highlight(s): “We only had one senior, so it was a very young team,” Coach Karen Atack said. “The players all worked very hard and they never gave up.”

Season Lowlight(s): While noting that moving up to face Class A competition was a tough task for the Lady Panthers, Atack said her team didn’t really have a lowlight this season.

Other: “We’ll be looking to improve next season,” Atack said. “We have two girls playing AAU basketball this summer and most of the team coming back next year.”
The team will lose just one player next year, as Brady Dollard was the only senior on the roster this season.
