ROSCOE’S TROY KIRCHNER throws a pitch in a game this past season.

Roscoe Has
A Rough Year

By Rob Potter
ROSCOE – July 1, 2003:

Overall Record: 1-14

League Record: 1-7 OCIAA Division VI

Team Leaders: Senior Brian Ballard led the Blue Devils with a .409 batting average. Fellow senior Dave Eggleton knocked in a team-high 21 RBIs.

Season Highlight: “Definitely our game at Cooperstown,” Coach Scott Haberli said of the Blue Devils’ May 17 contest at the Baseball Hall of Fame. “We played some good baseball that day. We hit the ball hard and Dan Park pitched a great game. We beat Eldred 11-3 and it was a total team effort.”

Season Lowlight: “Losing to Manor on our field,” Haberli said. “We had the winning run on third in the bottom of the seventh with no outs. But we just couldn’t score that run and Manor went on to win the game in the eighth inning.”

Other: “I feel very good about the future of our baseball program,” Haberli said. “We have two kids who will be sophomores next year and next season will be their third year playing on the varsity level and three other kids who will be sophomores will be in their second season of varisity baseball. One of our freshmen will be in his second year of varsity play next year.”
The Blue Devils will lose three players to graduation. They are shortstop/pitcher/catcher Brian Ballard, center fielder Dave Eggleton and pitcher/second baseman Dan Park.
