Come In First

GRAHAMSVILLE — September 5, 2003 – Travis Wolfe and Courtney Roosa won the boys’ and girls’ races, respectively, at last Saturday’s annual Tri-Valley Invitational cross country meet.
Wolfe finished first in the boys’ varsity race in a time of 18:21. He ran the 3.1-mile course more than a minute faster than second place finisher Sean Connors of Washingtonville. Connors’ time was 19:36.
T-V’s Jeremy Mathsen was fourth (20:06), while fellow Bear runners Derek Smith (11th, 21:38), Adam Wilson (14th, 21:48) and Josh Mattingley (22nd, 24:15) also finished in the top 25.
Other local finishers included four Liberty Central School athletes. Jacob Schwartz ran the course in 21:56 to place 15th, while Justin Tate was 21st in a time of 23:48. Chris Goldsmith and Mike Barry finished 25th and 26th, respectively. Goldsmith’s time was 25:48 and Barry’s time was 26:25.
Roosa won the varsity girls’ race in 23:53.
Four of her Lady Bear teammates finished in the top 10. Erin Beach was fourth with a time of 25:16, while Meylinda O’Neil was sixth (27:50). Tracy Taylor ran the course in 28:20 to finish seventh and Melissa Fancher posted a time of 30:05 to place ninth.
The Lady Bears finished first in the team competition, edging out Wallkill, 27-28.
The T-V boys’ team scored a 52 to place second behind Washingtonville, which tallied 38 points. Downsville was third with 78.
