These Ladies Won

ELDRED — September 19, 2003 – The Lady Jackets of Eldred defeated the visiting Family School Foundation Lady Falcons 1-0 Tuesday in an Orange County Interscholastic Athletic Association (OCIAA) Division VI match.
The game’s only goal was scored by Eldred’s Kim French on an assist from Jenny Haas at 33:44 in the first half.
Jolene Porter, who is in her first year coaching the Eldred varsity girls’ soccer team, said she thought the Lady Yellowjackets “played hard and stayed in it the whole time.”
“We were a little more aggressive than they were,” she said.
Her take on the 2003 soccer season?
“So far, it’s good,” Porter said. “They’re working hard learning what I want them to do, and I’m learning what they’re used to doing, so we’re working together to make it work.”
With the victory, Eldred improved its record to 2-3 overall and 2-1 OCIAA Division VI. Family is now 3-2 overall and 1-1 in OCIAA Division VI.
“I think we’re doing rather well considering it’s the first year we’ve ever had a girls’ soccer team,” Family School Coach Alex Carroll said.
“Eldred played well and hustled,” he added. “They had more determination than we did, especially in the first half. In the second half, I think we saw a little more hustle, but Eldred kept up the intensity.”
