Fallsburg Defeats Eldred

By Ted Waddell
FALLSBURG — October 3, 2003 – The home team Fallsburg Comets boys’ varsity booters defeated the Yellowjackets of Eldred, 6-0, on Monday afternoon in a non-league contest.
At 37:12, Fallsburg (5-3) scored the only goal of the first half as Nick Makofsky fired one into the net past Eldred’s keeper.
In the second half, the Comets started to spread out the defenders and began to score with a passion.
Makofsky scored at 30:38 followed by a goal by Miguel Reyes at 26:00.
Victor Leventritt beat the keeper at 19:00 on an assist by Makofsky.
At 10:00, John Hoefling scored an unassisted goal.
With two minutes left in the game, Antonio Gable fired one into the net off an assist by Rob Sneckenberg.
“I thought for being undermanned, Eldred tried to do a good job,” Fallsburg Coach Paul Marsden said.
“Basically we had more skills and more depth, but Eldred didn’t give up,” he added.
According to Marsden, he has a lot of inexperienced players who “are trying to find themselves” by filling roles on the soccer field.
The Comets lost nine players from the 2002 squad to graduation.
Yellowjacket goalie Greg Fotiades was credited with 13 saves in the match. Fallsburg keeper Blake Kilcoin made two saves.
Eldred is 1-5 on the season.
