And See Them Run

JEFFERSONVILLE — October 10, 2003 – The home team booters defeated the visiting Liberty Lady Indians Tuesday at the Jeffersonville-Youngsville campus of the Sullivan West Central School District.
The Lady Bulldogs rolled over the winless Lady Indians, 6-0, in an OCIAA Division IV match.
Sullivan West (4-9, 2-4 Division IV) scored four goals in the first half.
Jess Ledermann scored on a penalty kick at the 30 minute mark. About a minute and a half later, senior Rachel Peloquin put the ball through for junior Heather Lander, who scored the first of her three goals of the match off Peloquin’s assist.
At 13:00, Lander jumped on a loose ball in the goal box and put it in the net. With about nine minutes remaining, Jess Corbett swung a ball out to Michelle Rhodes, who then scored on a shot from outside the box to make it a 4-0 game at the half.
SW scored twice in the second half.
At 25:00, Peloquin scored on a penalty kick. A couple of minutes later, Lander completed her hat trick by scoring off an assist from senior Vanessa Kline.
Junior goalie Jamie Poley had 19 saves for Liberty (0-11, 0-6 Division IV), while SW goalie Amanda Patterson might have felt a bit lonely in the goal cage as Liberty never got a shot on goal in the contest.
“They’re young and they’re learning,” SW Coach Mike Mahoney said of his players.
He said he was getting good defensive play out of seniors Katie Thelman, Patterson, Maura Mullally and Ledermann.
“The kids in the midfield and up top are young,” Mahoney said. “They’re first and second year players, and they’re taking their bumps while learning.
“For the pond that we swim in, they’re doing pretty well,” he added.
