JEFFERSONVILLE — October 17, 2003 – The Cornwall Dragons evened their overall and divisional won-lost records with a 5-0 victory over host Sullivan West Wednesday in an OCIAA Division III match.
Cornwall, now 6-6 overall and 4-4 in Division III play, scored a pair of goals in the first half and added three more in the second 40 minutes of competition.
With just nine minutes and 20 seconds reamaining in the first half, Dragon senior Anders Novesky put his team on the scoreboard. Novesky gained control of the ball in the SW end of the field and sent a low shot past Bulldog goalie Joseph Layman and into the far corner of the net.
Just over three minutes later, Cornwall took a 2-0 lead following a corner kick. Sean Freeman took the corner for the Dragons and sent the ball into the crowded goal box. The ball was knocked away from the goal cage, but Cornwall’s Mike Smith was able to control the rebound and kick the ball into the net.
Ryan Himic, Andy Prokop and Geo Rodriguez scored the second half goals for the Dragons.
Layman made 10 saves in the match, while Cornwall goalie Tim Rush recorded 10 saves.
With the loss, SW dropped to 3-10 overall and 2-7 in Division III competition.
The Bulldogs will look to rebound at 4:30 p.m. this afternoon, however, when they host John S. Burke Catholic School in another OCIAA Division III game. SW is slated to play Eldred and Tuxedo next week, which is the final week of regular season competition.
