Meet Jaryl Scott

By Ed Townsend
KIAMESHA LAKE — December 26, 2003 – Jaryl Scott has a smooth delivery and his bowling ethics are paying off as he recorded his second-career perfect 300 game on December 17 in the Wednesday Night Men’s League at Kiamesha Lanes.
With eight years of bowling experience, this 31-year-old righthander stroked the maples for a 236, 300, 225 and a 781 series on Lanes 3 and 4 while bowling for the Candy Cone team. His teammates include Andrew Douglass, Tom Skiff III, Dan Allen and Tom Skiff Jr.
At one point during his 781 series, Jaryl, who uses a Columbia-The Game bowling ball, recorded 21 strikes in a row. He maintains a 200 average in this league and the Monday Men’s League at Kiamesha Lanes.
Jaryl scored his first career 300 game on November 3 of this year and the perfect score again came in his second game of the night in the Monday Men’s League. On that evening, he put together a 732 series off single games of 210, 300 and 222.
As it was during last month’s perfect game, all 12 strikes last week were perfect pocket hits.
Jaryl is single and the father of two children, Jeremiah and Elijah.
He is employed as a store clerk at Cooper Paints in Monticello.

Bowling Tip
By Mike Luongo

Bowlers: This week’s column will answer a question many bowlers ask about side weight: “Will it make my ball hook?”
The answer is “absolutely no.” I have been fortunate to be able to spend some time with technical experts, and although we have suspected this for quite some time, we now have the proof.
Two factors are needed to make a bowling ball hook: friction and rotation. (Gravity is also needed, but I think that we all understand that or we would all be floating around.)
You could take a bowling ball with the strongest weight block on the market and the most aggressive cover, drill it for maximum leverage, add all the weight you want and use a big balance hole, but if the bowler does not impart proper rotation, or if friction is absent on the ball’s path down the lane, it will go straight.
Mike Luongo is technically certified through IBPSIA and is a Silver Level Coach with USA Bowling. He is also the Northeast Technical Advisor for the Morich Bowling Ball Company (Morich Enterprises, Inc.). If you have a question or subject you would like covered, he can be reached at 341-1694 or via e-mail at mikespro@warwick.net.
