ELDRED December 7, 2004 Superintendent Ivan Katz took a blow to the head Thursday afternoon and charges have been filed against a parent.
According to reports from the Sullivan County Sheriffs Department, Daniel Turell Jr., 35, of Barryville was visiting the Junior/Senior High School Thursday afternoon to meet with Principal Scott Krebbs about an incident involving his daughter.
The student had been involved in a 911 hang-up on school grounds the previous day and was facing suspension, police said.
According to their report, Katz was called into the meeting with Krebbs when Turell became irate.
As he approached the principals office, Katz saw Krebbs running, yelling for help.
An altercation ensued, and Katz was apparently punched in the face twice with a closed fist.
Sheriffs deputies were dispatched to the school where they arrested Turell on charges of felony assault in the second degree.
Turell was remanded to Sullivan County Jail without bail, pending an appearance Wednesday in Town of Highland Court.
